Thanks for this. The original piece with Clare Torry was my go-to for happiness and sorrow back in the day. But this version honors her by taking it to the next level. So layered. Simply sublime.
The original singer was a session singer who was told just to sing what she felt like, on the first take she tried putting in lyrics but was told not to and just use ' feelings ' so that is what she did on the 2nd take, when she finished the take the band thanked her and payed her her£30 session fee and she left, she didn't even know that she was on the album until she read her name in the credits, 2 takes and job done, she eventually sued the band for royalties as a ' co - creator ' of the song.
No lyrics, with outstanding vocals. Many say they prefer the original version fron The Dark Side of The Moon album to this live Pulse version. I love them both❤ You should check out the original also🥰
Great reaction!! The incomparable Sam Brown taking the first section, Durga McBroom second & Claudia Fontaine (RIP) last - what a trio of fantastic vocalists!! Besides the original album version (by Clare Torry - who improvised the whole thing!!), this is my favourite version! The power and emotion in all sections is the very definition of beautiful! They used these gals for more backup vocals live, but most Pink Floyd album versions don't have any female backing. Amazing composition by Rick Wright (RIP). Cheers from Canada, eh!
Pink Floyd started using 3 background singers more and more on later albums (80s onward) as well as on all live shows, and the background singers became an integral part of several later hits, such as Keep Talking.
Listening to the live version is essentially a cover, at least for the vocals. As others have pointed out, the studio version was unrehearsed, with Clare Torry just winging it and Pink Floyd using her first attempt. That's not to say this version isn't great, but in my opinion any song by any artist should be listened to in its original form BEFORE listening to a live rendition.
The original song had one vocalist, her name was Claire Torry, This entire concert is awe inspiring, I envy all who were able to attend it in 1994 !! Pink Floyd is an experience that brings one's Heart, Spirit and Soul into harmony !! Please consider doing the entire concert in segments, Shine on you crazy diamond parts I-V and VI- IX are epic !! God Bless.
I love this album, but I tend to miss out on two tracks when I listen to the whole album. One of the tracks that I skip is this one and ‘Money’ is the other one. The rest of it I adore with my favourites being ‘Us & Them’ and particularly the finale to the album which for me gives a total WOW feeling!
Having bought this album in 1973 at the age of 17 I have never skipped any track when playing it or for that fact any of their concept albums and I must have played them all 100's of times each song is part of the narrative of the theme of the album for me at least it would be like skipping a chapter in a book or skipping an act in a play.
If the piano sounds extra special on this one, it is a Richard Wright composition... the keyboardist. Probably should have done the studio version first as these are not the original vocalists, but did a great job bringing it to life, live. Clare Torry, the original studio vocalist on the album, was just a session background vocalist brought in for this one song, and she killed it. No other connection to the Floyd.
Thank you so much for the feedback and support, I’ll definitely check out the original version soon, I want to listen to this album front to back soon!
@@RidiculousRic listening to the full album would be your best bet. Nearly all the songs blend seamlessly into each other to create a vibe and flow that you won't want to pull out of until it's over... which always seems to come too soon based on the reactions of others I've seen do the full album on here. It is a one-of-a-kind experience.
Please do a listening to Funkadelic's Maggot Brain. Some of the best guitar work in the history of rock. ruclips.net/video/JOKn33-q4Ao/видео.html Per Wikipedia: Maggot Brain" was recorded in one take when George Clinton, under the influence of LSD, told guitarist Hazel during the recording session to play as if he had been told his mother was dead: Clinton explained "I told him to play like his mother had died, to picture that day, what he would feel, how he would make sense of his life, how he would take a measure of everything that was inside him. This music is crushing.

Keep Talking, Live Pulse is a crazy banger as Well. Amazing concert in General.

Thank you for the feedback and support, definitely going to listen to this studio album front to back at some point:)
The 3 female vocalists are the same 3 background vocalists you see in the Pulse performances.
Being able to perform this live is an insane task, I think they did the song justice for sure:)
On the Turning Away, Live If you want to see some of their other backup singers, PF has 5 Stars at everything live.

So so powerful. I love the backup vocalists
Such powerful vocals, totally agree

Thank you for the feedback and support, I’ll do my best to finish the pulse concert as well as checkout this album in my off time, front to back:)
Sounds like Sam Brown 🤔

That is totally fair, I don’t know if I see myself returning to this in my off time, but I can definitely see the beauty in it:)

Pretty sure Gilmour was on a pedal steel guitar
You are correct, it indeed was Mr Gilmour
He did such a great job doing this live as well!

The best🙏🏼
If want a different band with a stunning female vocal singing about a very very sad incident
The Cranberries "Zombie"
This one wasn’t my fav, I get the eerie aspect but feels unfinished to me…🤷🏼♀️
I can totally see why, I am unsure if I’d return to it myself! Enjoyed the vocals but not sure when I’d return to it in my off time
