Pompeii was filmed in 1971. David Gilmour was 25. 45 years later, in 2016, at age 70, Gilmour returned to Pompeii to perform in front of a sold-out live audience.
Back in 1971 they had to haul all their equipment a few miles and when they got there they didn't realize there was nowhere to plug in for power!! So they had to run power lines and cables for two or three miles to get power to all their lighting and sound equipment LOL!
28:51 bro you have no idea how lucky you are you have listened to these two amazing albums and still haven't listened to the dark side of the moon. You thought what you heard so far was good? Just you wait
Some of Floyd's greatest lyrics appear in this particular work with possibly their most important being the following message to mankind to treat each other with more empathy and appreciate each other's differences - 'Strangers passing in the street, by chance two separate glances meet and I am you and what I see is me'.
The song is a combination of 24 bits of music they had improvised in the studio and performing live. Its initial title was something like "Nothing, parts 1-24." The lyrics are about modern people living lonely lives without human contact, despite living in crowded cities. They didn't want to make another typical "live in concert" film, so they performed to the ghosts of Pompeii and Herculaneum, the other town buried by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 CE. Another great performance from this film is "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun."
Wow, that’s actually such a unique fact! I love that they decided to perform this here in Pompeii over any random set, it feels historic and beautiful!
This is the same classic lineup of Pink Floyd that you hear on all of their biggest albums of the 70s. David Gilmour guitar and vocals with nice harmonies from keyboardist Rick Wright. Roger Waters here on bass is the only one not present on the 'Pulse' concert video from 1994, having left the band in the mid 80s.
Hello Rick, it's Maurice from France! So happy to see how you appreciate good music. I discovered PINK FLOYD around 1973 (I was 18) and since then I continue to listen and make the younger ones around me listen... Here for this piece you have: DAVID GILMOUR guitar, vocals (low voice) RICHARD WRIGHT organ and electric piano, vocals (high voice) NICK MASON drums ROGER WATERS bass ----------------------------- Filmed in 1971 in the ancient theater of Pompeii. A film crew Big 35mm film cameras (not video but 35mm film) Remarkable tracking shots forward, backward and going around the speaker wall, all that with the appropriate slowness... It will remain a work of art... The musicians must have been about 26 years old...
Thank you so much for the support from France! I love that you are enjoying the content as I am excited to hear more Pink Floyd and experience it with you! Thank you for the information and feedback as well 😌
Even if you don’t do a reaction to it, try to check out David Gilmour LIVE IN GDAŃSK (Poland) from 2006. Gilmour and Richard Wright perform ECHOES live all in one part (no part 1 & 2).
This is just the 4 of them performing here. David Gilmour on guitar and singing harmonies with Rick Wright, who is on the keyboards. Nick Mason on drums and Roger Waters on that pounding bass. David does rhythm guitar along with the lead guitar solos.
In Director Mayben's personal cut of the album and the footnotes accompanying the album one can find the vision, history and story of this legendary production.
Saw Pink Floyd's Dark Side tour at Milwaukee County stadium back in '75. "Echoes" was the encore. Saw 'em a couple years later at Soldier Field for the Animals tour and they didn't play it. Don't know if they played it after the Dark Side tour. Certainly not any other time I saw 'em live. Cheers....
Wear what you feel like Mate, It won't affect the views, we are here to see you experience the great music. Love the tattoos by the way, very artistic.
After Syd Barret, David was the Guitarist. This is David. Syd was only on the first album. the other members, mentiond in other comments, were pretty much unchanged.
@@RidiculousRic lets go man! and hey if u wanted to see more about Jim Morrison lead singer of the doors on live you could check out their recorded show at the Roundhouse in London on 1968- For me it's the best band ever man, im 23 and i listen to everything, but the doors had my special attention since they're like genuine artists, he was on it because of the music and art and to deliver a message, it was like drama theather, like ancient greek theather
Animals next? You wont be dissapointed. Just remember, Dogs = Businesmans.,, Pigs, Polititians and Sheep are the common folks. Also, Whitehouse is Pigs is about a English polititian and not the actual whitehouse. Waters does have an awesome live version of Pigs where he lashes out on Trump, lol. It's something.
Roger's on bass, they don't show him much in this video. David on guitar. There is no rhythm guitar, just the four primary instruments (lead and bass guitars, keys, and drums).
I’ve always preferred this live version of echos than any other as it sounds analogue and period correct and not super clean like the supposedly fantastic Gdańsk version which for me, is too clean and loses all of the atmosphere. Personal choice of course.
Non comprendo il motivo per cui sono state tolte nella seconda parte le immagini delle rovine di Pompei. Chiunque elimina o accorcia il video originale non fa una buona cosa ☹️👎👎👎
Any part of this that was cut out was because 4 different RUclips Ads played while I was recording this, so I cut the RUclips ads out! Have a great day.
@@RidiculousRic avresti fatto meglio a non darmi spiegazioni che sembrano arrampicate sugli specchi. Wow, that is such a beautiful statement🤞🏼 I love that
3 of these 4 guys performed at all of the 1994 Pulse performances (David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Richard Wright).

Yeahh! Amazing
Thank you, I’ll check this out on my free time:)
David doesn't have to shred 1/64 notes and the like to tell his story. He just hits the RIGHT notes.
Hey Man,
Thanks for reviewing this masterpiece
Check out The studio version, from 1971 album, MEDDLE.
Keep Rocking 👍

Thank you for the support, love to see you in the channel again!:)
David Gilmour lead guitar, &
singer-- black & white strat.
Richard Wright was the other
singer, and keyboard player.
I like that Roger Waters plays his base behind the string ending to give more power to the base sound..if you notice he’s behind the metal cap..
I noticed that as well, but didn't know why. Thanks.
