It always blows my mind with these things. They could have just taken the Valve route and just soaked up all the money, being at 80% of the market. But then they decided that 80% wasn't enough and went hard into making companies sign obviously illegal exclusive contracts. It always blows my mind with these things. They could have just taken the Valve route and just soaked up all the money, being at 80% of the market. But then they decided that 80% wasn't enough and went hard into making companies sign obviously illegal exclusive contracts. The world basically handed them a monopoly, and they could have kept it, as long as they didn't act to actively keep and grow that monopoly. But they realized if they did all the thing they have planned to further monetize google, that people would leave in droves, so they had to try to set up a net to prevent that.
@@miclowgunman1987 It genuinely is insane, they think when you're the biggest fish in the pond they can do whatever they want, and the only direction is up, but sooner or later the myth of infinite growth catches up. It truly is crazy that the easiest option is just to sit around and make money, and somehow a company as greedy as them managed to make a stupider decision than free profit.
