Tarboy is an epic animated short film about explosions and fighting robots. It was completed in 2007 as part of my honours study at the Griffith Film School, and released online in 2009. It was my second real film, after completing Purged the year before. 2D Animation was entirely in Adobe Flash (now animate). A sequel was in production, but I'm no longer actively working on it.
A lot of you are asking about Tarboy 2. I made a statement on my facebook page detailing the situation. Here it is below:

Just commenting to say that I know a tonne of you are waiting for Tarboy 2. It's not my intention to string anyone along and milk your patience by posting Tarboy related art like this. I've kept quiet for good reason, but I'm planning to release a video at some point this year explaining the situation with the project along with some video from two Tarboy projects that never made it.
Just to pre-empt any speculation on what went wrong, there was a serious Tarboy game project in the works with an overseas development team, a well known game designer and a major party’s involvement. (TO avoid any confusion, NOT the game I am currently working on with Jay Watts). Part way through the project, the developer had broken a critical agreement, and hadn’t delivered to what I felt was a passable standard.
At this stage, contractors were in dispute with the developer over pay, and the game designer had left, having not received his first cheque. I had already spent close to a year building a trailer for pitch materials, as well as the assets for the first level and much of the character animation. The developer did not accept my wish to terminate the project, and I spent many more months digging myself out of the legal hole to get the game rights back. It was an exhausting time.
Shortly after this, I began work on Tarboy 2, but I was burning out. I completed the first main sequence, but didn’t feel the quality was up to scratch, so I pulled the plug.
I'm not working on anything Tarboy related currently, and I can't realistically see myself getting back to it anytime in the short to medium term. I'm more interested in doing smaller stuff like this, and see where it takes me. Honestly, working on anything Tarboy related is a bit of a mindf**k, juggling my own expectations on it, while knowing that the most dedicated of you have been waiting years. This isn't to crap on anyone who's asked about Tarboy 2, I did promise you guys a sequel. But I need to detach Tarboy from all this bad history, and moving forward, I can’t have this promise lingering at the back of my head any time I post something to the public. Hopefully this post will unglue some creative blockages and take some weight out of it all. I can't give any more details at the moment, hopefully you all understand! Thanks for sticking around!

AWESOME!! My daughter just started creative writing in school, and she actually made a sequel story to this for one of her first submissions. A little rough, since she new at this and only 14, but amazingly cool nonetheless... Now, I remembered to watch the video she drew inspiration from, this is great work!

Tar Knight
The sky is mixed with blood and smoke. The land was stripped of any signs of past life hours ago. The men made of metal all raise their hands and heads in victory. Smiling as they only see motionless robots or parts and little sparks of fire for miles away. Then a soft CRUNCH slowly creeps its way into the middle of the now quiet sea of robots. The soldiers all look in horror at the empty black tar as it takes the shape of a human figure. The figure has no features and is only an outline of the one others would call “the leader of the foes''. When it finishes its transformation, it forms a sword made of its own blood, its own tar. It holds the sword high. To call his friends. His peers. And even his enemies that lie on the battlefield motionless. Then a hand right by the knight grabs the dirt below like the ground is the string of life. Gradually, the bodies of the battlefield rise once to the hell of living. Some bodies holds their missing limb or two in their arms. Even the soldiers of the dead from the opposing side from the tar knight slowly revive. But without even looking at their once-known team, they slowly walk over to the tar’s army and finally looks over at their once-known team with glares filled to the brim with hatred. No one moved at that moment. If anyone else came upon this horrific sight, they would believe this was a cemetery for statues. As much as everyone wished that was the case. It wasn't. Finally, the robot known as the commander of war slowly opened his mouth which was full of oil, and yelled at the top of his voice box. “TRAITORS''. Then, the tar knight pointed his sword at the commander and said one word that was almost a whisper with a crooked smile, one word with a short and quick gun motion before all the soldiers clinging to Tar’s side released and ran back to the opposing team for a rematch and a victory.
“Boom”
And it all ended at the watercooler.

Even after so long, I’m still coming back to this, forever impressed by the quality of it. I especially love how it shows the silhouette of the janitor with his eyes highlighted, then the grandpa turns around, showing the exact same pair of eyes. Fantastic detail.

Yikes taking away your rights to the game because they felt that their own selfishness was more important.
They could've selfish and cared, since they can't get their deal if they don't satistfy their customer, so instead they resorted to the Law to obtain the right to continue.
Not capatalism the Law, just happens that the Law usually is the reason awful things like Slavery continuned, since it is overall better to pay your workers especially since they can choose to leave at any time.

This animation was never supposed to happen as James was focused on making purged back in 2006 but it was so complicated (he used traditional pen and paper for the character designs, an old scanner to bring his designs over to his computer, Photoshop for editing the scanned designs, some primitive facial morphing software to make the head positions, flash for rigging, and after effects for special effects) that it wasn't released until 2011 and he focused on a simpler project one that didn't require his scanner, Adobe after effects, and primitive facial morphing software to release it on time for his film school so he delayed purged and started production on tarboy in 2006 before finishing it in 2007 and later release it to RUclips and newgrounds in 2009 before resuming on purged shortly after James released his school project (tarboy) to the public

I found this animation years ago and loved it. I’ve ironically come back to this channel because of some other content he’s made. Only to find out that he was none other than the one who made this masterpiece from my childhood.
sorry to hear what happened with tarboy. It would of been cool to play a game based off of him. No matter the future of tarboy, i enjoy your content.
There are certain videos like this that even with age, still manage to withstand the test of time. Thank you James, you really made a peice of art here.
