- My first time at the Appleby Horse Fair. Collette was unable to play out today as she was in work. Luckily I had some help from a photographer Karen Macbride, her facebook profile link below.
Taken From Wikipedia:
The Appleby Horse Fair, also known as Appleby New Fair, is "an annual gathering of Gypsies and Travellers in the town of Appleby-in-Westmorland in Cumbria, England."The horse fair is held each year in early June, attracting roughly 10,000 Gypsies and Travellers, about 1,000 caravans, several hundred horse-drawn vehicles, and about 30,000 visitors. The Gypsy and Traveller attendees include British Romanichal, Irish Travellers, Scottish Romani and Traveller groups, Kale (Welsh Romanies) and more.
Appleby's medieval borough fair, held at Whitsuntide, ceased in 1885. The 'New Fair', held in early June on Gallows Hill, which was then unenclosed land outside the borough boundary, began in 1775 for sheep and cattle drovers and horse dealers to sell their stock; by the 1900s it had evolved into a major Gypsy/Traveller occasion. Throughout the Fair's history, no group claimed ownership of the Fair or was charged to attend it, staying to one of the Fair's principles of being a people's fair.

Lancashire Larks It will only be in the future when you realise the significance of the young lady on that beautiful horse in the river at approx time stamp 1635 to 1735.
For those of us here today who spotted it thank you for the message we have all been waiting for.
And you can know even though you don't that you were chosen to be there and catch it.
Nothing in this life is by accident.
Victoria street Burscough is where my woman is from.
A Lancs lass to be sure.
This is all cryptic to you now but will become apparent in due course.
"Q" and 17 have sent the message.
You were the unwitting messengers.
Have a great day from rural HQ of "Operation Shamrock ☘ 20,21,22,23,24 ".
On God's Green Acre otherwise known as Eire.

D Day, 80 years ago today. Dedicated to the men who literally saved the world 🇺🇸🇬🇧💝 Every time I watch a video of yours, I feel like l am immersed in a Charles Dickens novel, thank you for that!! Love to Collette and Poppy 🌺 😘

Cracking video Rob especially the horses bathing ❤x
Awww thanks Heidi, so glad you enjoyed 😊😊❤️🐶x
Missing Collette but it definitely harkens back to the Grandad rambles days. I love horses. Grew with them. Magnificent animals but they definitely need to be respected. Can be dangerous if not handled correctly. It was a joy watching the video today. I really enjoyed it. Sorry about the parking ticket. 😮
Thanks Kim, yeah. I missed Collette today as well. But needed to get out there and film this. Especially with being off work ❤️🙌🏼

I'd never heard of that fair and had to look it up. Sorry you got a fine! Once again thank you for the vlog!
No worries Belinda, thanks for joining us 😊🙌🏼
My favorite animals are horses, I used to ride when I was a teenager. The Clydesdale is gorgeous and the wagons look great for their age. I really enjoyed this one Rob, but I did miss Colette! She will enjoy the video at least. Sorry for the parking ticket they should’ve had NO parking! Yes at the end that really resembled you Rob 😂😂😂 have a great weekend my friend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜 Thanks for talking us along.
Haha I thought it looked like me as well 😂 Thanks Susan, Collette watched the video and thought I was running off with another woman 😂
LOL 😂 No Chance Colette I was watching him! I would have flown there and found him! He loves you too much though all kidding aside 🥰🥰😘😘
@@susancousins8766 😂 it really was a good day. Didn’t know what to expect. Never been before and being on my own was a bit daunting. Was lucky really to meet such a friendly person to help me out ❤️
Great video enjoyed it very much well done
Thanks Bill, so glad you enjoyed 😊🙌🏼
great vid rob, hope to see you saturday at the event 💙
Hope you liked the plug I gave you 😂 see ya Saturday 👌
@@LancashireLarks loved it, thank you.
@@claretmad1 it was difficult to try and get the words Imperial Alliance into a horse fair show 😂
I'm here in the USA and I used to work in a laundromat. There was a very dear lady that would come in every week to do laundry, her name was Ruby Appleby.
Ohhhhh Ruby! Don’t take your love to town 😂😂 Thanks Peggy 😊🙌🏼
Pulled there mate, nice one.
😂
I love the old Romany green caravans, they are passed down in the generations in the families.
Yeah, they all looked very well. Was a great day 🙌🏼
Shit
Appleby are doing a archaeology dig that anyone can help them, also Carlisle Cumbria cricket club and vindalando Cumbria
Fantastic 🙌🏼
Horses being used & Abused, not a good watch for me! Some Very Unhappy Horses there! Why not be Vegan and leave animals alone????
To be fair I didn’t actually see anyone eating a horse
@@LancashireLarks two horses died of exhaustion (one on the first day of the Fayre) please think about those before you make jokes about the abuse in the video x
I didn’t see any abuse in the video. Not the kind of videos I post.
That poor horse not enjoying that water one bit and the way does pulling on its mouth is disgusting. Tradition or not a lot of cruelty hoping on
@boxing10134 or at least be there before judging. Unbelievable some people aren’t thi. Not gonna let comments like that spoil the day I had. Will definitely be coming again next year 🙌🏼
@boxing10134 I’ve had horses all my life and have two c9mpetition horses currently. The abuse I have seen in this video Is horrific (notneccassarily the horses featured but far too many in the background it has to stop as it’s giv8ng the good horse men and women at Appleby (I worry they’re in the minority) a bad name x
@@LancashireLarks judging how people treat animals should never be called out or ignored yet 8t should promote health discussion on improving welfarewithin such traditions to make them socially viab”e for years to come and future generations to enjoy both sides need to respect one another hen it comes to welfare conversations
These people are not horse lovers, just read news report 2 dead horses after been worked to death. Horrible people 😪
😮
Did you see any grabbing?
Saw a pie shop 🥧
Some business closed for Appleby horse fair
That’s their choice I suppose 🙌🏼
