- In this video I'm in Scanno, an Italian town in the province of L'Aquila in Abruzzo. Among the most beautiful and characteristic villages of the region, it can be appreciated for its position in the national park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise. The main topic of this video is the mother church of S. Maria della Valle and the solemn sound of its magnificent bells on the occasion of the Solemnity of Mary Most Holy Mother of God in 2019. The video, in memory of the disappeared parish priest Don Carmelo to whom I'm grateful for his availability and kindness, opens with suggestive shots of Lake Scanno taken near Villalago and then arrives in the heart of Scanno embellished by the snow and Christmas decorations. The mother church, also known as the Madonna Assunta, is in local stone in the Abruzzo Romanesque style. Although the date of its construction is not known, some architectural elements testify to its existence as early as the 12th century. The façade, anticipated by the steps, has a horizontal crowning with 3 portals, the largest of which in the center surmounted in the upper portion by a rose window. The side portals, opened in the 17th century, are also surmounted by windows. The 2 pillars close to the facade, crowned by a pyramidal cusp, were added after the 1915 earthquake. The interior is divided into three naves by 4 quadrangular pillars and two columns without bases. Over time it has undergone various interventions including the renewal of the stuccos, the adaptation of the columns and pillars and the reduction of the chapels and various restorations due to earthquakes. The red terracotta floor was restored in 1990 and raised by about 80 cm. The same year the Renaissance frescoes were found in the first columns after the entrance. The central nave ends with a semicircular apse. The presbytery is characterized by a polychrome altar and a wooden choir. The confessionals and the wooden pulpit are the work of the artist Ferdinando Mosca from Pescocostanzo. The lunette vault, divided by 4 arches, has 17th-century paintings depicting S. Eustachio, the Virgin Mary and S. Biagio with decorated stucco frames. The choir loft, dated between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, is supported by the vestibule. Episodes from the life of S. Eustachio (patron saint of Scanno) are depicted on the balustrade. The organ is in carved and decorated gilded wood. The vaults of the side aisles have silent stucco frames with a single fresco in the center of the left aisle. In the left aisle there are the altars of S. Pasquale Baylon, S. Giovanni Evangelista, Pietà, S. Joseph and the baptismal font while in the right aisle there are the chapel of S. Costanzo and the altars of the Spirito Santo, S. Anna, Most Holy Rosary. The nave ends with a large wall reliquary built in the 18th century which preserves ancient reliquaries. The bell tower of 1563 is a square tower with a pyramidal cusp. It's the highest in the area (35 m). In the eighteenth century it was reinforced with iron rods while the ball and the new flag created by Giuseppe Farina di Agnone were reinserted on the cusp. After the 1984 earthquake, the flag was replaced by an identical one made by Giovanni Schiappa. The concert bells are 4, one for each opening; electrified in a flattened momentum system and equipped with a striker, they are being maintained by the Mastrosanti company.

II - F#3 - Giorgia - cast by a smelter from Agnone; the date and the founder are to be identified, representations: the Cross and the Madonna with Child;
III - G#3 - Adriana - requisitioned in the Second World War was recast in 1950 by the Premiata Pontifical Fonderia Marinelli of Agnone, representations: the Blessed Sacrament and the Immaculate Conception crowned with 12 stars;
IV- C#4 - Lucia (Ciella) - cast by the Marinelli of Agnone in 1829 - "L. MARINELLI ANGLONENSIS. F.", representations: the Cross.

Molto solenne e molto commovente, sembra di vivere indietro nel tempo in questi posti , quando veramente si stava bene nella comunità, sembra di vivere in un presepe
Sono felice che ti piaccia! Scanno è un borgo veramente incantevole in cui puoi vivere l'esperienza di tornare nel passato e lasciarti cullare dalla bellezza dei sui vicoli e dei suoi scorci. Ne vale sicuramente la pena visitarlo. Durante le feste natalizie ha un aspetto ancora più affascinante perché, come hai scritto, sembra un presepe. Impossibile non innamorarsene. 😊

Mi fa piacere che li apprezzi sempre, molto gentile. La Mari ha ricordato anche a me quello di Trasacco però devo dire che la Maria di Scanno è molto più curata; basta vedere il punto di battuta perfetto. A Trasacco il punto di battuta è molto scavato così come San Valentino in A.C.
La Maria di Scanno è una delle più belle campane d'Abruzzo! È ancora più apprezzabile quando suona in assolo. Le 3 minori insieme formano un accordo molto particolare che mi piace molto. La terza ha un suono che gradisco molto.

Sì sono stupende proprio perché formano un concerto vario e di alto calibro. La suonata solenne è stata eseguita per il richiamo alla S. Messa della Solennità di Maria SS.ma Madre di Dio, 1 Gennio 2019.

Sono d'accordo, davvero molto belle! Il campanone poi è uno spettacolo perché con la sua imponenza emana un suono solenne, deciso e pieno di vibrazioni che ti avvolge. Come si chiama la chiesa in questione dove mi vuoi invitare?

Quello che faccio io è un servizio gratuito realizzato per piacere ed in base al tempo che ho ma se mi devo spostare appositamente e su commissione dovrei farmi pagare ma non mi sembra il caso. Se mi dovessi trovare nei paraggi cercherò di riprenderle ma è davvero difficile. Bisogna organizzare il tutto in anticipo, chiedere i permessi e beccare la giornata giusta per la suonata.
