Hopefully one day Kansas Speedway returns to the IndyCar schedule. I was a kid and went to my first race at Kansas Speedway. I’ve now been to Texas, Indianapolis, and now Long Beach. All chasing IndyCar races.
The 27 laps between the fourth and fifth caution flags seem to be missing from this broadcast, as it jumps right from Hornish's pit road miscue to the aftermath of Sharp's crash, ignoring Lazier's stint in the lead and how Cheever got back by him.
Yeah, Scott Sharp's fatal crash was edited out, similar to newer reprints of the WWE Event: Over The Edge 1999 which also took place in Kansas City (over in the Missouri side of KC at the Kemper Arena.) Where Owen Hart died after falling of a cage. The show, just like the race, would continue.
Too bad the original version of "The Vision" was never realized...Now we have something resembling Champ Car? and no interest...More of the Donnie Beechler's of the world in Indy car might be a place to start?
the original vision was realized. it failed for a number of reasons. beechler sucked in indycar. people can't face facts that sprints and midgets are great, they're fun, but you learn little from them that translates to indycars today
You clearly don't understand racing... racing is NOT safe... its inherently dangerous. That's part of the excitement and lure of the sport. Man conquers the danger. There is a reason this video has 98 thumbs up and non down.

Nice I remember going to a race at PPIR that year.
"Slip inside deep and dive" RICE, Larry.
Disclaimer: This is the 2001 Ameristar Casino Indy 200...
The moment of Sharp crash just desappear... 🤔
Why the hell does Hornish Jr have a Detroit Lions sponsorship?
a player on the team owned the car. well had a minor role
the car never change until 2012
these cars defintely changed. the chassis youre thinking of that didnt change for forever was debuted in 2003
@@kevincorbat7084 and only really was finalised in 2005

Great!
Fantastic race. Cheever giving Hornish the thumbs up was pretty cool. I think he knew how much of a oval racer Sam was after this!
1980 Eddie Cheever already in Formula one racing for osella
And Sam Hornish was just being born
Then they have this whale of a race 21 years later
I want to know how they thought this was safe!
