I’m a 55 y.o. white fellow, a 50 year Marvel fan, and every time I read a comment about how important this representation is for people, it threatens to bring tears to my eyes. These heroes are and have always been for everyone. I love that Marvel is ignoring the whiny diaper brigade who think there’s something wrong with it, that this somehow goes afoul of what Marvel has been all along. It doesn’t. This is exactly Stan Lee’s vision.

@@madtitan0825 What’s even cooler, and I’m seeing Muslim people talk about it too, is that Marvel isn’t handholding their speech/language. Like explaining what words mean (like the word ‘harem’, most know by now since it’s the more common word but even with other words they don’t dissect or say what it means, just the family having every day conversation). Props to Marvel

THANK YOU. Pretending we can't identify with teenagers is ridiculous. Pretending like the only thing that can be good is leaning only into dark stuff is equally ridiculous. It's always good to revisit the feelings we had when we were young. It helps us recognize that shit in younger people. And of course, it can still be entertaining while not going too dark because the MCU doesn't only need more darkness to evolve, it needs more style which Ms Marvel has. This genre bending stuff that the MCU has been doing more and more is fun, it evolves it, and it's great that there are people who recognize that like you guys

After Hector's comment about a young Peter Parker, I remembered that 40 years ago in the comics, Peter was already in grad school. You have to go back more than 50 years to get Peter in high school. (This August is the 60 year anniversary of Amazing Fantasy #15.) Even in the Amazing Friends cartoon in 1981, the heroes were in college.
In the early Marvel years, characters aged in almost real time. It wasn't until the 1970s and 80s that their aging slowed to nothing.

Yeahhh, the vibe I get from her parents is the totally believable one of: they think she's still 11 or 12. Or they think their lives were easier when she was that age. Kamala may be ready to grow up, but her parents are really not ready for it. If she'd been 11 and asked to go to AvengerCon and they gave her the "2 hours, Dad goes with you, you wear this" she probably would've been happy to say"Deal!" But at 16, it *is* humiliating. The Kamala in their heads is at risk from so much, they can't see that she *is* competent and capable-- not helped by her daydreaming getting her in trouble, or flunking her driver's test. Understandable! But not fair. I like everyone in this family!.... I just want to give them family counseling or something. :) Love you guys' teeth-gritted reactions to the cringe-moments for Kamala.

And to answer Hectors question of her Peter Parker moment, she does have one. Her dad ends up having a heart attack and they find out he has a underlining heart condition so at one point she has to make a choice, be a hero or be there for her family. It gives you the feels but at the end I think Tony helps out with her dads condition if I remember correctly so not as permanent as Uncle Ben.

I legit LOVED this premiere. It's probably my favorite out of all of the Disney+ Marvel premieres by far. Really loved how the show gave like Into The Spider-Verse vibes through the graphic comic book art effects to the main character being this awkward teenage student who is obsessed with art and of course, thought the tone was appropriate for a character like her which felt refreshing in the MCU especially after we had Moon Knight and Multiverse of Madness. It's also awesome to see a group of fans finally get a chance at representation in the MCU through having this solo project featuring a hero who's like them and have the rare chance and opportunity to have their family's culture and background explored in a way never before properly. I really envy these fans because I want to know what's that really like to have a solo project featuring a hero who's like me and gets to explore my family's culture and background in a non-stereotypical proper way. I know that we already have America Chavez in Multiverse of Madness and are about to apparently get Namor in Wakanda Forever being influenced by Mayan/Aztec culture but we still don't have confirmed projects featuring them. And I already know we're getting Blue Beetle next year and....yeah, I'm not counting El Muerto lol. It would be really nice if we finally had a solo project in the MCU featuring a Latino lead hero for once especially since all these other groups are getting their chance at representation in this franchise.

This episode was so good. I really like the portrayal of the high school and neighborhood. The set doesn’t have that pristine brightly lit feeling that seems either artificial or like you have to being living in an incredibly affluent suburb. It’s a little more down to earth and real.
Also, the kids in the high school aren’t these over exaggerated characters. There is isolation, stigma, being an outcast, but not to the point where kids look like villains and everyone is organized into these perfectly separated groups with no overlap or dimension.
I love the friendship and budding romance. It seems really genuine. You can imagine they’ve been friends their entire lives and that they this opposite family experience that sort of compliments the way they see the world.

I'd recommend Hector read the Ms marvel civil war 2 tie in for a more deeper story of Ms marvel. It's one of my favourite arcs of hers. She has to stand up and fight back at Captain marvel for locking people up. She learns she has to be her own hero and that maybe carol isn't the hero she thought she was. It's a big arc for her which causes some problems for her and her friends. It's like her "Responsibility" moment. "I have to protect the people of my city. Even if it means protecting them from you". Ms marvel 2015, issue 7-11. It's what I'm hoping we see in the marvels.
Great reaction guys!, i wasnt expecting to like her comics as much as I did, but now she's one of my favourites. I've always loved the more character focused drama stories and the show looks like its really captured it.

Oh, the parenting in this show gave me PTSD flashbacks as well. The controlling, inquisitive, "I know what's best for you" bs with the constant guilt tripping and emotional blackmail.
Also, cool facts-the actor whom they got playing Kamala's dad is actually the Hindi voice actor for doctor strange when the MCU movies get dubbed in the Hindi language in India.
And....the opening song when the ms marvel title, is actually a song from a tamizh movie(which is my mother tongue) and the person who sang the song is one of the most respected and most celebrated singers, S.P.B. he passed away a while ago and hearing his voice was kinda bittersweet.

I was pleasantly surprised. Something about this show’s production feels so tight, idk if it’s the camera work or what but you can tell the show runners care a lot and want it to be as authentic as possible. Sure its a teen/coming of age story and there’s tons of those, but the way this package is presented kept me engaged the whole time. Also the interactions with the mom reminded me of my own mother and I was laughing a lot cuz of how accurate it is 😂 Hope the whole series continues on like this! ALSO so glad the aesthetic and “scott pilgrim” ish style wasn’t just in the trailers and throughout the whole show. The little world building and expanding of the MCU in fun ways without any big events feels good. The way they presented the text messages is leagues beyond a lot of movies 😂

Didn’t know what to expect watching this show but it did give me very TGIF vibes. Like Boy meets World.
Those scenes with her parents made me think about those awkward moments I had growing up having to ask my parents for something when I knew the answer would be no. Or they would compromise by tagging along 😠. But I’m thankful for those moments now.

the scene where the mom blamed the dress for being too long, then when her friend came and commented that kamala is too short for the dress and she agrees, it's typical of asian moms. conform to the crowd to not appear rude at the expense of your own family. and that is a great subtle addition to show how her mom is. concerned about the society's judgement of them than letting her child grow and bloom.

i remember reading the comics the first time and finding kamala very relateable even tho the only thing i had in common with her was being female and a former high schooler. and i was hoping that would be one of the things they translated from the comics and they really did. Like who hasn't been where she's at at at least one point in thier life? Everything about this show was charming. I think i had a smile on my face the entire episode. There were some changes from comics to series but the vibe of the source was there and the changes worked. i'm excited to see the next episode.

I like all the little nods to Marvel in the show. I feel like the writings a little over the top when it comes to the adults and the way they treat Kamala. They hit it out of the park with this series on the first episode. Iman Vellani's level of talent in just about every scene is reminiscent of RDJ in Iron Man, that's how electric this debut was! She IS Ms. Marvel, there's no other opinion I can make here, I loved every minute of this episode. I would almost adopt Kamala as a neice, and cover for her if her parents called and she wanted to go to AvengerCon, thereby making me the cool uncle she hangs out with like Aaron Davis was to Miles Morales.....uh, minus the criminal career of course, lol!
