Teal and Orange. It’s easily one of the most popular cinematic color grading looks and it’s also incredibly simple to do. My goal for this video is to make it the fastest and easiest Teal & Orange color grading tutorial for Final Cut Pro on RUclips.
Why is Teal & Orange so popular? Well, teal and orange are complimentary colors, meaning they are opposites on the color wheel. One reason why the teal & orange look works so well is because our skin tones lie in the orange part of the spectrum, so you can achieve great color contrast by introducing teal into your footage and enhancing the orange colors (which are often skin tones) when color grading. This is a popular color grade used in a lot of films and is why it’s often referred to as a cinematic color grade or a cinematic look.

Just what cinema needs, more teal and orange colour grading.
Haha 😂
Excellent tutorial, thank you. Can't wait to put it into action on my next video.
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it and good luck! 😄🤙🏼
Nice one man. Subscribed. Colour grading is the next thing I want to delve into with my editing...along with animation...but that's another world haha
Thanks for the support Andrew! Animation is a whole new thing to learn but with all the tutorials on RUclips these days it's not impossible to get going pretty quickly. Color grading is less intimidating and I have a bunch of tutorials on my channel about it. Also, color grading course coming soon 😄

thx for this, however whenever I add the dropper onto the facial areas, no matter how little I select the area, the image somehow gets a tad like over-exposed, destroyed, etc. Just not as good as prior to adding the color mask in the color wheels. Any tips on this?
That’s strange. I’ve never experienced that with the color wheels before. Sounds like it could be a bug/glitch? I would test it again in a brand new library. Bring the clip in and add a new color wheels effect to see if it still happens. Let me know if you’re still having issues?
Great video! I am struggling with this grade for a few clips, since i have no skin color in them. is there anyway to get the same orange and teal look when there is no person for reference?
Thanks Morgan! Yeah what you could do instead of masking the skin tones is to add the teal into the shadows and orange into shadows and highlights. So you’re essentially creating that color contrast between the shadows and midtones/highlights instead of masking specific colors. Hope that helps!
🙏🏻can you show us more of color grading in Final Cut👍
Definitely! Is there anything specific that you would like to see?
How do you get your mask so perfect on the just the face? I keep getting areas outside of the face for the inside. Also, how do you make it so the whites do not get changed as well? Teeth look blue lol
You have to play around with the size and feathering of the mask and depending on your footage, you might need to keyframe the mask to follow the face if it moves around the frame. You could always add another color effect on top of this one with a mask just for the teeth to change the white balance towards orange to get rid of the blue. 😄👍🏼
Fast, Simple, Easy! Love this tutorial mate.. Well done!
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Appreciate it 😄👊🏼
I use teal n orange for most of my client this one wud b helpful for creators….
Yeah definitely! Super popular grade, for a reason I guess 😄🤙🏼
@@Brad_West Do u hv an instagram account??… i want to tag u… i made some clips watching ur way of editing, want u to hv a look at dem
@@BhaiShaantHunMai Hey Rocky, yeah I do. It's @brad.and.donna.
How do you nail the orange and teal when there's no skin in the scene?
You can use the midtones and highlights color wheels to push some orange into those areas and then you can push some teal into the shadows. You can still get a nice orange and teal look that way 😄👌🏼
