    I must comment again on how these videos are so much more helpful than the manual by itself. Especially in depth ones on white balance (e.g. customising) etc. because they're obviously more illustrative, but Rob's deep understanding of Olympus cameras & its menu systems AND customization instructions are such a big shortcut to "getting it" because some of what's in the manual is not always easily applied when messing with the settings. This is why I follow him. I'm much more into photography as a hobby now, whereas before it was just a means to an end acquiring a good enough camera to get good shots of what I'm after (wildlife photos in general) & getting a basic understanding of settings shooting manual to get them! Thank you Rob for all of your videos. Especially grateful because, as you say at around the 17:00 mark in the video you refer to yourself as an average enthusiast lol. With the full grasp of everything Olympus it seems lol and photograaphy and teaching style in general, you come across as much more than that. All of your effort is much appreciated. It fast tracks me (and many, as I can see here) along this hobby & taking better photos than i ever did before, especially in low light, speaking for myself. Cheers good sir.

    I should have watched this 3 yrs ago. A must view for the 1st time OM owners. Now that I know where ALL buttons are located, still striving to take a clear focus bird photo. You do an excellent job in breaking it down - so much easier than reading the manual.

    Classic Rob Trek doing what he's best at: explaining things simply and clearly, with great examples.
    I may be a PRO photographer with 40+ years experience, but I learnt something today: how to disable that second control panel that sometimes pops up.
    Thanks Rob,

    Hello Rob, These videos were super helpful. I've had this camera for years and learned so much. I mostly do product photography for my jewelry business and shoot in manual mode.
    I found you because I reset all the settings, and now I can't see the exposure change on the viewfinder when I shoot in manual mode. How do I do that? Thank you!

    Once again, thanks, Rob. As you may recall, sent you a FB message as could not work out how to activate SCP,
    Problem solved.
    Have to admit that, despite the clarity of your explanations, will have to watch this video, with, yes!, a pen and paper and make notes on how to make customised settings from SCP. Believe that, last night, spend 90 minutes watching and rewatching your top video of making customised settings. Made a few, and adopted your tip for a setting ( Art Menu 2?) to give the most clarity/sharpness to B and W setting.

      Am sure that the issues relating to the SCP were probably confined to maybe just me as it's such an integral part of the camera's operation.
      Thanks for the super rapid response and allocating your time to the preparation of the video. Trust that it was beneficial to a wider audience.
      Again, many thanks.

    Hi Rob….. been looking for this all day …. I just got a 2nd camera …. the em1 mark 2 like what you are using …… Mine has art, but no SCENE…. How is it your camera has SCN and mine doesn’t….. not on the top dial either …. I love to play around with funky effects … that what I do .-))

    • @RobTrek

      Scene mode is not much use. I really doesn't do anything funky. I was using the E-M5 Mark II in this video which has Scene mode.

    Excellent tutorial.... very helpful...Thanks
    ... If you are searching for topics to broadcast, may I suggest addressing the custom menus? On both my EM1 mark ii AND on my EM1 mark iii cameras, the C1, C2, C3, (and C4) dial positions correspond to whatever button customizations I chose to store in those line items on the reset menu..... However, I keep getting confused over the options to "Reset" "Assign" "Save" and "Recall" (What is the difference between ASSIGN and SAVE?)… A video on how to set and use the custom menus might be interesting...
    …. Also, do you know whether or not Olympus has plans to allow real names to be assigned to the C1, C2, C3, and C4 positions? (I would like to relabel them --- customizable names would be best --- in my case, I'd like wildlife, landscape, portrait, default as my labels)…. I would preset the camera controls for shooting landscape, but if I happened to see a rabbit or squirrel, I could quickly move from C1 to C2 mode choices, and get both pictures!! :-) ). If you have any influence over Olympus, I'd like you to pass on the suggestion for label options under the Reset/Custom Modes menu. Thanks..

    Does the custom white balance, using a white piece of paper, affect the RAW file or it only affects JPEG files? Do any of the WB setting options in the camera affect RAW files? I only shoot RAW, does it matter what I set the WB balance at (including custom)?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  3 года назад

      WB does apply to the raw file for viewing purposes but you can change the WB to anything in raw. So even if you set the WB to 2000k, you can change it back to 5000k no problem. You can't do this with jpg without loosing quality.

    • @BurhanMuntasser
      @BurhanMuntasser 3 года назад

      @@RobTrek So when I calibrate the WB with the white piece of paper, I am correcting the colors and this will be reflected in the RAW file as well (and I can still change it later)?
      I want to correct the colors in the camera before post processing as much as possible. I do underwater photography and it is very difficult to adjust the WB in post due to color absorption underwater. I need to do WB correction while taking the picture as much as possible for the background.

    Rob Im sure you know this..but when in SCP and go into the WB fine settings you say you have to take a photo to see what it looks like...well you dont if you are on the SCP and highlight the "A" or "G" and set them with the front control dial...and then you can see the results thru the SCP while you adjust it..

    • @RobTrek

      Depends on which camera you have. If in the Movie menu you have Display settings -> Control Settings, you can check the boxes for Live Control and Live SCP. If you check both, you can toggle between them pushing the info button. E-M10ii and below don't have this feature.
