Man I want to tell you that I just started model railroading and by watching your videos and previews on certain Venders and manufacturer on the cost too the detailing I have learned a lot thanks for the great videos.
That is awesome! Thank you so much for the feedback and compliment! That's what this whole hobby is about! Best wishes on your new adventures in model railroading! Welcome aboard!
I appreciate your attention to minute detail. I've been collecting more Norflok Southern than anything else for about a year now. Thank you, keep up the great work 😁👍!
Good to see you back, nice review, thoses genesis engines run so smooth, alredy have 3 CPSDACU and two more to come, Some times people are hard to satisfied. hope to see more
Ronald Rondeau I agree with you, the CPSDCU are sweet - I have 2 with a 3rd on order. Personally I prefer Athearn Genesis 2.0 and the Tsunami 2 over ScaleTrains and ESU - the worst loco I ever owned was a ScaleTrains ET44AC. I recently got an CN Veterans ET44AC and the CN WC Hertitage ET44AC - they're much improved; the ESU sounds great but performance isn't as good as the Tsunami 2. But then, I've put the time into learning how to configure the Tsunami 2 CVs for realistic performance, something I have yet to do for ESU
I must say that I did notice some sutal differences between the Scale Trains Dash 9 and Athearn Genesis 2.0 Dash 9. Would you consider doing a comparison video?
Very attractive dash 9 model locomotive, these locomotives are becoming more realistic in appearance with the features of the ditch lights and spinning bearing axle caps. This was an enjoyable product review & I hope you are pleased with your purchase- Tom.
So, in my earlier comment I neglected to say how nice this loco looks, sorry for my oversight. It’s good to see they Athearn has added the light package and see-through steps to Genesis 2.0 on this model. All Genesis 2.0 models be at this level…plus built in capacitors. Gotta poke the bear to get more improvements, I say.
@DGModelworks thank you for everything you do for the rest of us model railroaders, I absolutely love your videos! You always provide in depth reviews in your videos. If you don't mind me asking, why don't these Dash 9's come eith sode step ground lights in the front and rear. One thing I've seen on these and wanted to ask ya' bud. Keep up the amazing work brotha'. -Miquel @Corpus Christi, TX
Thank you very much! I suppose Athearn decided to not add that lighting feature. Most of the time it comes down to cost for any manufacturer. The more details they add, the more they have to charge for it.
DG Modelworks I like this Athrean Genesis Dash 9 pretty cool.DG you have always done Excellent Reviews no matter What Products they may be The Numerous video reviews On Locomotives from different manufactures And even those Auto racks This locomotive was pulling Some amazing pulling power Wow,Stay Safe And Thank you For sharing another Fine Review .👍👍👍👍👍
Great video Deryk, great to see you back. The sound is fantastic on the new Genesis 2.0’s especially the crew chatter. More of an EMD fan myself but that is a great looking loco, must be to do with the livery.
@@DGModelworks I do like the random “whoop” that the GE’s make. We don’t have any that do that here in NZ. I thought it was a proximity warning when I got too close to the loco on the California Zephyr at first.
Great review, love the up close shots and details. Love the 2.0 stuff, nice to have lit number boards(why did it take so long?) and the roller bearing caps spinning is an awesome feature. Very nicely done, Happy Friday Eve! -Ken
Nice review as usual, thanks. I noticed the loco began moving before the prime mover spooled up. I have a GEVO with a Loksound 5 and it has a drive delay feature programmed in to allow for the prime mover sound to spool up before moving…very nice. I have another loco with Tsunami 2 and the only way I’ve found to achieve the delay affect is to program the decoder to “Manual Notching” which doesn’t allow for dynamic exhaust. I like Tsunami’s overall but wish they had more adjustability.
Another Beautiful NS model! I sure would like a dash 9 in nscale, think scale trains is it. Agree the ditchlights being bright is nice! Thanks for sharing.
Excellent review. I have both the 9169 and 9225. Both are beautiful locomotives and I would never give them up. That said, there are two areas of disappointment 1) both have noticeable gear noise which can be heard over the engine sound, and 2) the 9169 has a warped handrail near the K9 APU. I think I can improve the handrail. I hope the gear noise improves with run time.
Thank you very much! If I had to think of any downside to this loco, it would be the same things you mentioned. Definitely not a deal breaker for me, but I understand completely. The Genesis line has never had the most quiet of driveline, but I've also never had a failure. They seem to run great! Hopefully it does quiet down after some run time. Thanks again!
I'm really impressed. Even though I'm a traction guy (I collect HO brass models). Not much into diesel-electric. I watched the entire video, and I enjoyed it. It was informative and fun seeing this new Athearn model in action. But, the one reservation I have about these new plastic HO scale models is how delicate they are. Particularly the railings on each side of the models. How do the railings hold up on this model? Are the railings sturdy? Do the they break off, or dislocate easily? I ask these questions because I had problems with my HO scale EMD SD40-2 diesel-electrics from ScaleTrains a few years ago.
To be honest, the more detail the locomotives get, the more delicate they are, no doubt. I've never broken any hand railings, but I'm also careful how I handle them. They are thin plastic, so you certainly have to be careful. I find they stay attached pretty well. Occasionally during handling a stanchion or two mike come lose. Just have to push it back into the hole. Thanks for watching and I hope I answered your question!
Derek, Nice review of a nice engine. But I gotta ask. What is the tunnel portal in the background that is perpendicular to the tracks? I seems odd to me but I bet you have a great reason for it.
Hahaha good question, I'm surprised more people don't ask me that. That rock wall/hill was reused from my previous layout build. On that layout it was going to be used as a road tunnel for access to the coal mine. I have been meaning to remove it and add foliage in it's place. Some people think I should leave it, just as a conversation piece. LOL
Can the cab chatter be turned off? That would be annoying if it couldn’t. It looks great Athearn did a great job. I’m glad to see the brightness of the LED’s are better than what they have been
DG, what is the APU and how does it work? This model so far the best detailed model I've seen from all of the manufactures. Welcome back to your show and thank you for sharing your time with us. Are the Dash 9-40Cs detailed this well too?
I bought this exact engine and was curious is too how to make the cab chatter more frequent it was before then I fiddle with the sounds on it and for some reason it stopped being as frequent no it won’t have any for every 5 minutes.
