I'm not sure how I missed this video originally but really appreciate it. I own the 1095 versions of each knife and they are both great. In my thinking I like the heft of the Tops, but Esee gets my nod for the sheath. Hmm...?
Nice comparison! I’ve been interested in the Esee 4 in S35vn lately. How do you find it works for feather sticking compared to a scandi grind, since it’s on the thicker side? Any thoughts on how it performs for skinning or working with food? Just trying to see how well it works for an all around knife. Last thing. A lot of people say that Esee runs them very soft. Do you find that to be true, or do you feel the edge retention is decent? Thanks!
So. It works great for feather sticks. But a scandi will still out perform. For skinning and food prep it’s amazing. And the people that say it’s soft are soft themselves. Just because a knife gets optimal edge retention at a certain hrc doesn’t mean it’s the optimal hrc for this style of knife. A small thin folder? Sure. Harder hrc. An outdoor fixed blade? No. That being said. It holds a fantastic edge. I have a video of me testing it vs cpm3v and it spanks it.
@@peterbiltknifeguy Thanks, I’ll try to find that video. Thanks for the info! I did some searching and seen someone say that Esee runs the S35vn at the recommended 59-60?
Love the saber grind myself. Although I tend to like Esse's style better. I'm thinking the Bradford line of knives will be my next endeavor into blades though. Tops blades are nice, just not into A lot of their blade styles although I do have a Skull crusher. Thanks for the nice matchup and comparison.🔪👍🗡️
I think the ESEE 5 is much more comparable to the BOB and would be a good follow up video. Also, going with both in 1095 would give a better comparison overall.
I love both of them knives man! The Tops BOB 4.5 has been calling my name for some time now. I have been wondering how both of them do in their stainless steel versions. The sheaths are badass man. I will have to look into Carl Thomas sheaths. 🔥🔪👍
You do some interesting testing challenges. They were a pretty good match-up & I imagine either would be more than adequate for a bushcrafting role. Love the design of those leather scabbards !
How about a budget knife compared to those $100 + , say something like a bps or Schrade ? I'd like one of those two but , that's You know who's America right now .
How is a knife not a chopper espespecially a thick spine bushknife....that statement makes no sense. It can’t be used to skin and butcher but not it’s main purpose. Sometimes I just don’t get these knife snobs. Just waiting for him to say you can’t throw sparks on a rod hahahaha
Good video I have been looking at the esee 5 comparing it to the tops Bob myself

I like Esee more because it's plain and simple without a bow drill divot and flat grind. $9 for two burgers at Carl's sounds good too.
Two great, American, companies.

Absolutely. Thank you
Good showdown for a couple of really good knives....Good stuff....
Beautiful gear. I just wish these knife makers would not badge their tools so crazy. Less is more.. IMO.
Great review. Thanks
Ive seen reviews on how the esee cant really use a ferro rod with the spine. But never seen a video with them using the finger choil. Does it work?
It doesn’t. It’s just the same as the spine
I'm an Esee fan boy but Topps makes great knives.I prefer the S35VN in this size of blade.
I do too
Bonjour, so which one is the best ?
No best existing. ITs what works for you and your uses
Ok merci
I'm getting ready to order one of these for skinning deer witch do you think will work the best I think the esee looks like a better slicer
100 %. The esee will be so much better for that
Looks like you need to work on your sharpening barely cuts the paper.

I have many BPS knives, including a few HK2 models. The HK2 is a real soul taker. I love it.
Which 1095 is better Esee or tops?
Esee. 100%
@@peterbiltknifeguy thanks torn between the pr4 and Baja 4.5
@@jamesevans9621 both do great. I just think esee does the steel better
@@peterbiltknifeguy thanks I stick with Esee they do have the better warranty to boot too
🤘🏼💪🏼👍🏼
Happy Friday talk to you Monday!
You're the first person i've seen baton with a dead blow hammer lol..
Really?
@@peterbiltknifeguy yeah, generally they're used for mechanical purposes instead of wood working purposes lol.. But if it works im all for it!

Haha. Are you day drinking?
Why even comment?
It's two separate grinds also so cutting won't be the same
