We'll be working on a poplip soon as well. This was filmed live on our twitch channel, we fly tie every Mon, Wed, and Friday at 7:30 PM, link down below, as we'll as the material list.
Make sure to check out Bob Popovic's book "Pop Fleyes" for more info on this fly and other great patterns by Bob.

Nicely tied. Big fan of mullet flies. I use them in fresh and salt for tarpon, snook, jacks and peacock bass. I do like to use grizzly hackles but would use solid colors and hit them with a marker. Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words, I'll be tying the poplip next, which is a lipped version of this fly, and the "School Bus" coloration has some grizzly for that striped appearance.

Love this can't wait to make this for when they come up to Massachusetts! Was wondering what the sink rate is?

Because of the silicone head there's some floatation, but if you want it to sink easier squeeze the head under water and the rams wool soaks in the water. It basically has an air pocket built in due to the silicone coated rams wool.

Some resin from tying candies all day probably. This was while I was tying commercially full time so that vise was being used alot.

Great fly but marabou and wool must hold a lot of water. Tough casting, no?

Compared to a Hollow Fly let's say it definitely retains more water and can be harder to cast, but with a 10wt in the Surf it's not that big of a deal. You can always squeeze the head out of water to recude weight, or squeeze it underwater to gain weight to sink.
I usually fish them in the Surf with a sink tip, good fall time Mullet fly and the buoyancy helps stop the hook point from dulling down in the wash.
