- After a few days out of the fields we are back at soybeans, and spraying...
However, a late night clean out proved I should maybe wait until daylight next time...

I know it's a different story for full-time farmers but one thing I loved about the time I spent on a tractor in my younger days was the solitude.

You mentioned Urea fertilizer. I know exactly what you mean. I grew up helping my Dad farm avocados on our family's 2 1/2 acre homestead in Southern California. 46-0-0 urea was a staple every spring for our avocado trees. Throw a couple of cans of Urea on the base of each tree, then crank up the irrigation pump and start the sprinklers.
We'd even put the Urea in a spreader, and crank the little regulator slide gate almost closed, and spread it on our Bermuda grass lawn. Boy, it would grow like gangbusters. Mucho green! You sure had to water it aplenty for the first week or so, or you'd burn the lawn!

It's so awesome watching all the hard work that goes into your farming!!! I live in northern Michigan (tip of the little finger of the mitten), so we weren't effected by that horrible flooding in the middle of the state. We have a lot of cherries, apples, grapes, hops, asparagus, and assorted berries grown here. :) Have a great day! Love your videos and Sandi's as well!

Yes, I've been using Agleader equipment for a long time and it work very well and provides lots of flexibility.
Not just farm wives! I’m an electrician’s wife and do the same thing lol. Canola fields are just beautiful. We have some in our area and they hurt the eyes when the sun shines.
Mark - Another great video. I know this was just stuff you do every day, but you explain it in a way us city folks can understand it. That sprayer looks like a plumbers nightmare with all the connections and cable ties to keep everything in place. It's good to be able to work with your hands, but not always fun when you want to use the equipment and it's broken. Blessings to you, Sandi, and the family. Take care from Davenport, Iowa.

I have to say, after watching Mark and Sandy for a while...its so smooth and relaxed to see the videos of farming and the sheap handling. Other YT Farmers are so loud or hectic or whatever, its soo fucking good to see a total normal Family doing there farmthing...so thank you all

"This farm wife, Meredith Bernard" have also lost a big portion of their farm to flood waters, they use open cab tractors and small gear and they had just reclaimed fences etc from the last lot of flooding. Heart breaking to all the folks who were badly flooded.
So many jobs on the farm in the spring, certainly keeps the family busy. I have nicknamed you sprayer; Big Red Grasshopper. Just looking at it makes smile. From a distance the blooming canola field looks like the California mustard fields. Good luck with the crops.
A 1 1/2 hour drive each way would be a 3-hour round trip. That is a great distance in my eyes. 👍
a ctully you have to consider about an hour in town too cuz the driver will need a bathroom and food plus get the part usully chat for a bit or ask questions...possibly pick up other odds and ends while there and then head back. I live an hour from the closest big town and a it always takes about 4 hours to do a simple in n out trip like a doctor appointment...shop once a week and it takes all day!

I live an hour southeast of all that flooding from the dams breaking. Not directly impacted from that but it cause the river by us to back up due to all that flood water competing to flow out of the water shed. Hope 2020 straightens out soon.

Nice to see all the residue on the field breaking down and shielding the bare soil from the sun. Please remind Jack to be careful with his hands around the auger! Hitting the hopper with a rubber mallet will dislodge hung up seeds too with out the risk to his hands. Thanks for posting.
Glad to see you didn't get a that rain that we received here in Michigan . The county i live in received 6 inches of rain in a 36 hour period . Counties east and south got 7-8 inches what a mess. Brian's was dishearting to say the least

Here it is the first week of November and it's 85 degrees with the humidity it's well into the 90s in the swamplands of Florida. I'm laughing at how you're just finally warming up. That and all the white skin is making me laugh too.
Funnily we are experimenting this year with some spring applied manure on bean ground too, though it's on rr bean ground rather than our IP beans just to be a bit safe.

Im not a farmer but I watch you all religiously. The Brocks rock!! I have a question: I have yet to see any field plowing. Have I just missed those videos or is that something you don't do?
Lost you for a bit, glad you've decided to combine with Sandi's videos as the interaction between you both is entertaining (not to say that the both of you are not as individuals). Question for you. Having finally decided to give in to my Doctor's wishes, I'm trying to eat a Keto based diet. It does appear to be better for my body and I've lost 20 lbs without any real effort other than avoiding high carbohydrate foods. I keep seeing recipes that call for black soya beans as they are considerably lower in carbohydrates. Before this, I was only familiar with the yellow or sometimes refereed to as white beans. The black variety is proving hard to find and I've only been able to source it from the internet. As you are experimenting with some of your acreage, is this something you would consider?
Night vision goggles for night missions. Trying to get you as close to 24/7 as we can. You can sleep next winter. Thinking you need a super hero outfit, maybe just a green cape. Jess and Jack have helped relieve some of the butt dragging mode.
Moving on to manure spreading, have you ever considered renting/leasing a 3 or 4 yard front end loader? The Bobcat seems to be a time bottleneck. I got dizzy watching you load the spreader.

Seems as though I to always have some piece of equipment that has to have something fixed on it. It gets so freakin frustrating some days!
I know canola is self-pollinating, so would it be worth having a local beekeeper bring in bee hives near your fields to increase yields 10 -15%

Watched in horror how your son was cleaning out the auger hopper with his bare hands, please remind him how dangerous it is, I used to Farm in Manitoba for many years and lost part of my 3 fingers in a Farm mishap.

No, likely just spread some manure and plant a cover crop. The farms soil is pretty light soil so not sure how well soys would do.

Mark, while traveling to so many farms, have you picked up any more tips on irrigation or planting? Have you considered any of their crops to try on your farm?
We're always looking for opportunities to grow different crops, and this years experiment is winter Canola. Some of our issues with different crops is climate and our warm temperatures and humidity.

Mark when you say it’s hot, how hot is it. As l live in Queensland, Australia it can get really hot as you would know from your visit recently.
It was 30 celcius on Wednesday. It went from 10 degrees to 30 in one day. Too quick a transition for me especially when humidity is 98% without raining. I did get my little 1 acre of grass cut. Cheers from Sydenham, Ont.
kate colborne l live in a little town called Tin Can Bay it’s on the edge of Heritage listed Fraser Island. Our last summer it got to a high of 46 degrees Celcius high humidity also. It’s just coming into our winter and we hover around low teens to mid 20’s during the day. Enjoy your summer.☀️☀️

What are eatable beans?

What are edible beans? Is there another name I would know them by in the USA?
White beans, black beans, navy beans, pinto beans, etc. edible beans to differentiate from soybeans because most farmers who say ‘beans’ mean soybeans not black, navy, pinto, kidney, etc. beans
To add to C SA's comment, this area of Ontario grows a lot of food grade beans for human consumption. So apart from the "dry" edible beans there's also further south a lot of green beans and peas grown, and Mark's area northward we grow human food grade soybeans as well, which are known as non GMO and identity preserved. IP means the buyer of the beans wants only a specific breed of soybean so they need to be properly harvested and stored separately so they don't get mixed with different kinds.
