I really like the way you and Sandy overlap. I understand both businesses better when I see her driving the tractors and you in the barn fixing things or pulling difficult sheep. The kids are so good at driving tractors and working in the barn. That's a partnership I have come to appreciate
Mark, Mother Nature is going to be very good to y’all this season, you’re going to have a bountiful harvest... When you love the land, the land will take care of your needs... The canola is very good, better than the ones I’ve seen in my area... Sending y’all love and blessings from Pennsylvania USA... Thank you for sharing your videos and sharing your knowledge with us, I’m always learning when I watch your videos and Sandi’s...
Mark. Thank You very much for showing wheat head spray needs. I had heard of powdery mildew, did note knowen about the other wheat head problems. Thank You for showing me the wheat fields i enjoy walking along with you on your farm fields. Listening to you Mark explain the different stages of the seed growth progress is great. Please Take Care of your self Plus Be Very Care Full around all Farm Equipment.
What a great vlog you have put together! I agree with the others you would make a great I professor. Your delivery manner is fantastic and understandable. I always make sure to watch your videos when I am not on a time constraint, I want to think about nothing but your educational I put. Thank you so much for the time you take for taking us along with you . RIP dear Duke.
Great video again Mark- you make the complex very understandable- a natural teacher. Good luck with the crops- they look real good so far. 👍👍❤️❤️❤️🚜🚜🌾🌾
Thank you and I thoroughly enjoy your videos and explanation of the state of the plantings and next steps. I am in awe of all the thought and observation required to do what you do and as always mother nature has the ultimate say. Looking forward to the next installment in the epic saga. Cheers
Love your videos. You mentioned Soft Wheat not being used for bread. Southern (USA) cooking is hard to replicate in most other parts of the country. One reason is the flour. White Lily flour is the secret ingredient. It is a traditionally southern flour and it is 100% soft winter wheat. We use it for bread, biscuits, and lots of baking.
Hello , Rex from upstate NY , like your videos you have a lot of information on your crops , looks like you will have some good yields as long as the weather stays decent , keep us updated on your crops , enjoy watching them , stay healthy .
Very informative vlog again. A person can learn a lot from you. That's one of the reasons I watch your channel. As well as Sandi's. Have learned a lot about sheep from her. I enjoy learning things like this, it gives me more of an understanding of what it takes to feed the world. Another great video, thank you.
Hi Mark, I watched a video on RUclips where you were a guest on a tv show discussing a court case against your government regarding chemical usage on crops. What was the outcome please? I really enjoyed that interview, you controlled yourself very professionally.
Thanks for the time you spend educating us! When I reach for a bag of flour I have NEVER given any thought to the work and science behind it. Sorry for the loss of Duke. All they want is to love and be loved. Never talk back. Never want the car keys and never ask to borrow money. Condolences to the whole family.
I’ve learned so much watching your channel. I’m doing some gardening experimenting this year with soybeans (mainly for edamame), quinoa, amaranth, barley and oats. I’m not expecting much in terms of oats or barley but I think it will be fun. Watching the soy beans come up has been so much different than my other beans.
Could you briefly discuss any practices you have adopted/adapted to your operations from your visits to Australia and New Zealand on a future vlog? Are you writing a paper on your observations that we can download?
On your Fathers property, the long white buildings ? Saw on Google map just SE of your place long white buildings , I guess that’s where you are . Enjoy your videos very much. 😀👍🏾🚜🇨🇦
Thanks Mark very informative. Here in California the central valley grows lots of nuts, they used to have signs telling you what kind of tree they were but most have been taken down or just fell to the ground. I live in the desert Coachella valley near the Salton Sea, $575 million dollars of crops grow here every year.....Yep in the desert
Hi I am watching your videos from South Africa and although I know about the flag leave I did not realise the importance of it. I am learning a lot from u thanks.
Love your crop updates mark! We are grow spring canola in the clay belt of Northen Ontario it’s only still at the 3rd leaf stage. we always say If you can’t walk into your canola field when it’s starts having a nice lean to it it’s a real good sign. looking at the flowers on your canola fungicide video I think you shouldn’t expect any less than 65 bu
Holy camoly! I’m a farm kid (40something kid) from AB… you have canola finished blooming in early June???!!! When did it get seeded? Our field were always yellow in July- unless hail destroyed the crop. The differences in growing times across this country is amazing.
hi Mark, we miss you, hope all is well. Take your time uploading. I just hope you are recording your videos. I have learned so much from you. Greetings from NYC. If you are on vacation from vlogging, we understand! Come back soon. Can't wait to see how the fields are coming out.
Mark - Great instructional video once again. Thanks for teaching us city folks how things work, and what's important in crop development. Blessings to you as you go through this growing season. I will be interested to see how those pods fill out on the canola plant, and then also how you harvest them. With soybeans I know the combine head is almost touching the ground. Does the head of the combine run higher off the ground with the canola plants?
I asked a crop extension expert about growing winter canola in NB and his response was "We have only tried winter canola once. There was absolutely no survival even with good growth going into the fall." Notable climate difference between NB and Ont.
@@MarkBrock in the uk theres not much canola grown in the due to a beetle or an insect invasion which is a pity the landscape was nice with a sea of yellow
Sorry to hear about Duke. Pets are like one of the family. So how's the garden doing. Maybe give us a report on that or is that Sandi's domain.lol. Happy farming
How does what you spray effect the friendly insects and bees you might have in your fields? And does a day or two really effect how your chemical works on the wheat? As a city person your fields look great, much better then a dumb gold course.
Mark, when you have to spray so late in the growing cycle, does it result in a significant amount of crop loss, having to run through the wheat like you were?
It's so hard, even for the military men in our family to lose any of our animals!! Duke has crossed that Rainbow Bridge. When and at what stage will you take the canola?
Hey Mark, in order to keep water in the fields, is it possible to cap the ends of your tile drains to make that water stay in the ground? Is the water too far down by that time?
Mark, could the darker green stripes of wheat growing on corn rows be a result of residual nitrogen pushing new growth that delays maturity? Sorry for Dukes' passing, hope Jess is coping okay. What are your thoughts on the custom chopping? The bagging station seemed a blur of activity and you appeared to be in the middle of it.
Sorry for your loss of the four legged family member. You seem to be a John Deere tractor guy except for the sprayer which is Case. Any particular reason for this?
When the ground got compacted my grandfather would plant potatos and because of how deep between the drills were, it would loosen the soil to down to almost 2foot. But don't think that would be economically viable choice for you, or how good they grow in your area
It would work, but it's hard on the soil and we'd lose some of the nutrients and organic matter for the stalks. The lines in the wheat are "cosmetic" and unlikely to cause any reduction in yield.
@@MarkBrock Some areas burn crop residue to kill insect eggs and fungus but it looks like your fields are too close to roads and trees or am I mistaken?

Our town has a big wheat/durum mill
Have you ever tried beans on 30 inch rows. Can really help white mold issues
Yes, it can be hit and miss on yield vs. the narrow rows. A lot depends on the variety.
Soo sorry for the lost of Duke. What are you spraying on the fields?
A fungicide call Prosaro XTR
The canola looks great I wouldn’t be surprised if it is doubled of spring canola
The way you farm is it called dry farming because you don't irrigate? Do you have crop dusters in Canada
Hi Mark!
Did you got a gift -2.5 ton/acre a normal year of canola ? Thank you for your wery good information!

I have a question for you. In the field with the cornstocks in it would you ever burn the field in the fall? To help break down the cornstocks.
@@MarkBrock Thank you for your quick answer.
Can you comment on the residue affect on moisture penetrating the soil. We know it helps retain moisture but does it also repel light rains?
I can at like a sponge and if mixed into the soils and is beside a seed it can rob moisture away and cause germination issues.
I missed the perfect window for fungicide on my wheat because of a week long rain event 5", I put on miravis ace a little late, afraid I wasted money 😬🙏
What wheat reference book are you referring to compare wheat growth stage or fungus application timing?

the harvest was 10 000/ ha what in your place canola thick they say when a cat can run on it ????? last i harvest 3500-4000/ha
your crops very nice
We get about 6.5 MT/ha here for wheat yields
@@MarkBrock Wow, NB farmers are thankful to get 1 MT/acre for any grain (Oats, wheat & Barley). What is your seeding rate (lbs/acre) for wheat?
@@chrismclaughlin9302 we based it on seed per rate but usually 150 to 175lb per acre, less if we plant early
What is winter canola? Can that be grown in Saskatchewan?
