    I really like the way you and Sandy overlap. I understand both businesses better when I see her driving the tractors and you in the barn fixing things or pulling difficult sheep. The kids are so good at driving tractors and working in the barn. That's a partnership I have come to appreciate

    Thank You very much for showing wheat head spray needs. I had heard of powdery mildew, did note knowen about the other wheat head problems. Thank You for showing me the wheat fields i enjoy walking along with you on your farm fields. Listening to you Mark explain the different stages of the seed growth progress is great. Please Take Care of your self Plus Be Very Care Full around all Farm Equipment.

    What a great vlog you have put together! I agree with the others you would make a great I professor. Your delivery manner is fantastic and understandable. I always make sure to watch your videos when I am not on a time constraint, I want to think about nothing but your educational I put.     Love your videos.
    You mentioned Soft Wheat not being used for bread. Southern (USA) cooking is hard to replicate in most other parts of the country. One reason is the flour. White Lily flour is the secret ingredient. It is a traditionally southern flour and it is 100% soft winter wheat. We use it for bread, biscuits, and lots of baking.

    Very informative vlog again. A person can learn a lot from you. That's one of the reasons I watch your channel. As well as Sandi's. Have learned a lot about sheep from her. I enjoy learning things like this, it gives me more of an understanding of what it takes to feed the world.

    Thanks for the time you spend educating us! When I reach for a bag of flour I have NEVER given any thought to the work and science behind it. Sorry for the loss of Duke. All they want is to love and be loved. Never talk back. Never want the car keys and never ask to borrow money. Condolences to the whole family.

    I’ve learned so much watching your channel. I’m doing some gardening experimenting this year with soybeans (mainly for edamame), quinoa, amaranth, barley and oats. I’m not expecting much in terms of oats or barley but I think it will be fun. Watching the soy beans come up has been so much different than my other beans.

    Thanks Mark very informative. Here in California the central valley grows lots of nuts, they used to have signs telling you what kind of tree they were but most have been taken down or just fell to the ground. I live in the desert Coachella valley near the Salton Sea, $575 million dollars of crops grow here every year.....Yep in the desert

      I live next to 585 acres of pecan trees in Arizona. They change colors all year long. Very lovely. Just add water!

We are grow spring canola in the clay belt of Northen Ontario it’s only still at the 3rd leaf stage. we always say If you can’t walk into your canola field when it’s starts having a nice lean to it it’s a real good sign. looking at the flowers on your canola fungicide video I think you shouldn’t expect any less than 65 bu

    Holy camoly! I’m a farm kid (40something kid) from AB… you have canola finished blooming in early June???!!! When did it get seeded? Our field were always yellow in July- unless hail destroyed the crop. The differences in growing times across this country is amazing.

    Mark - Great instructional video once again. Thanks for teaching us city folks how things work, and what's important in crop development. Blessings to you as you go through this growing season. I will be interested to see how those pods fill out on the canola plant, and then also how you harvest them. With soybeans I know the combine head is almost touching the ground. Does the head of the combine run higher off the ground with the canola plants?

    I asked a crop extension expert about growing winter canola in NB and his response was "We have only tried winter canola once. There was absolutely no survival even with good growth going into the fall." Notable climate difference between NB and Ont.

    How does what you spray effect the friendly insects and bees you might have in your fields? And does a day or two really effect how your chemical works on the wheat? As a city person your fields look great, much better then a dumb gold course.

    Mark, when you have to spray so late in the growing cycle, does it result in a significant amount of crop loss, having to run through the wheat like you were?

    Hey Mark, in order to keep water in the fields, is it possible to cap the ends of your tile drains to make that water stay in the ground? Is the water too far down by that time?

      Yes, it can be hit and miss on yield vs. the narrow rows. A lot depends on the variety.

    Mark, could the darker green stripes of wheat growing on corn rows be a result of residual nitrogen pushing new growth that delays maturity?
    Sorry for Dukes' passing, hope Jess is coping okay.
    What are your thoughts on the custom chopping? The bagging station seemed a blur of activity and you appeared to be in the middle of it.

    Sorry for your loss of the four legged family member. You seem to be a John Deere tractor guy except for the sprayer which is Case. Any particular reason for this?

    When the ground got compacted my grandfather would plant potatos and because of how deep between the drills were, it would loosen the soil to down to almost 2foot. But don't think that would be economically viable choice for you, or how good they grow in your area

    I have a question for you. In the field with the cornstocks in it would you ever burn the field in the fall? To help break down the cornstocks.

      It would work, but it's hard on the soil and we'd lose some of the nutrients and organic matter for the stalks. The lines in the wheat are "cosmetic" and unlikely to cause any reduction in yield.

      @@MarkBrock Some areas burn crop residue to kill insect eggs and fungus but it looks like your fields are too close to roads and trees or am I mistaken?

    Can you comment on the residue affect on moisture penetrating the soil. We know it helps retain moisture but does it also repel light rains?

      I can at like a sponge and if mixed into the soils and is beside a seed it can rob moisture away and cause germination issues.

    we had spring wheat.and winter and pig feed ray-wheat when i left many years ago
    the harvest was 10 000/ ha what in your place canola thick they say when a cat can run on it ????? last i harvest 3500-4000/ha
    your crops very nice

      We get about 6.5 MT/ha here for wheat yields

      @@MarkBrock Wow, NB farmers are thankful to get 1 MT/acre for any grain (Oats, wheat & Barley). What is your seeding rate (lbs/acre) for wheat?

    I never realized winter wheat planting dates would effect the next years maturity dates. Our crops look pretty good so far even after some hefty rains and wind June 8-9...Hope some of the rain made it East to you guys.
