    You mentioned painting from the car in your last video and I was happy to learn today you already have videos demonstrating this. I'm definitely going to give this a try this winter! Great instruction during the painting. I'm only half way through and I've already learned a lot. The encouragement about our unique fingerprint in our work and thinking about our legacy - as someone who spent way too many years NOT painting - it's so important. Thanks again!

    Jessica ,I was out painting the other day for a few hours ,it was still a job thawing out this time of year. suprise ! paint from your car I thought(but did not) it is such a cozy way to paint and not interfere with the painting process... thanks for the reminder!

    A really nice informative demonstration and I love the way she’s captured the light. I’m just amazed she’s done it in the car as the fumes from the linseed would bother me I’m sure so I’d have to have the windows open which probably defeats the object of the exercise.

      Sometimes some of the most beautiful paintings I have seen are the most mundane subject matter where the artist has found the poetry in simple things.

    Loved the painting Jessica! I have a video where I did a sketch from my car but got confronted by passers by because they thought I was a bad guy! Sometimes I'm not sure if it's more conspicuous to be in the car or out! Great video and painting! I love all the suggesting you did. I so often get mired in the details. Great job!

      Danny Sabra I watched your video Danny & where I live they would be suspicious of someone in a car sat there for a long time too. However, it’s true what you say, whilst there are horrible things happening in reality they are in the minority. The wonderful experiences & the people doing amazing things far out way the negativity of this world. It’s a shame the news only hones in on the terrible atrocities which has the impact on us to question someone’s motives. Stay positive & keep creating!

    Beautiful! May I have your thoughts on how long it takes oil paintings to dry and be ready to sell/give away? I was told by an artist friend to use Gamblin Retouch and that’s all I need to do. What are your thoughts? What do you do??

    • @JessicaHenry
      @JessicaHenry  5 лет назад +1

      If a painting is heading out the door sooner that the allotted 6 month drying time in order to be varnished, I will put a coat of the Gamblin retouch varnish. And that can be applied when it is dry to the touch. That's what I do most of the time. If one has been around for longer than 6 months, it has cured and can maintain a coat of regular varnish. If it hasn't already had a coat of retouch varnish, I can apply it directly to the painting. If there is a coat of retouch on it, then it has to be removed. I have never done that, but there is a way to do it.

    This is great. But, being a left handed painter, I think I’d have to get a car with the drivers side on the right! And, being sloppy, I’d have to figure out how to cover the whole seat and the dashboard. I wonder if ‘Weather Tech’ makes something like that!!! 🤔 Ha Ha! 😄😄😄

    Inspirational. I tried Plein Air for the first time yesterday. I loved being out and adopted your colour palette. It was unsuccessful, because I chose to stop, as I couldn't see how the skidding oils would ever sit on top of each other without blending into a dirty mud. Perhaps too much linseed. However, in your video you appear to reach that stage at approx. 20:20 - you continue putting the colour on regardless and eventually it takes shape. So I just need to carry on. Do you only ever use hog hair bristle? I find they remove the oil too much, yet you seem to get by ok...Your video motivates me for another try..Thanks

    • @JessicaHenry
      @JessicaHenry  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Michael, Yes definitely keep working at it. It's s numbers thing. The more you do the more comfortable you'll feel. You'll start to automatically understand how much is too much oil, how thin/thick the layers can and or should be in order to work out the layering. Just like playing an instrument, it requires the patience to allow yourself to make mistakes, and to work through the trials and confusion. Remember the rule "fat over lean" which means you can only lay thick paint over thin layers. But if you have a thick layer of paint and try to do another layer of thick over that, you'll end up with a mess. You can always scrape off paint and start over with an area.
      Yes, I pretty much always use hogs hair bristles. Hope that helps, keep working through it!

    Interesting and thank you. I was a little surprised as I watched the picture (on screen) and the view of the house shrunk to almost the background on your painting and the roads and side yard next to the house doubled, lots of wet dirt?

    • @JessicaHenry
      @JessicaHenry  5 лет назад

      Yes, you have to adjust your canvas to suit your vision. Sometimes you have to rearrange and edit nature a bit to create something that is a new work. Thanks for watching!
