Now you should review the original the French version; (1960) “ A Plein Soleil” or “Purple Noon” with Alain Delon. One of THE most iconic summer style movies ever produced.
Yes, Alain Delon is really interesting to watch in that movie. I prefer the 1999 version, but Plein soleil has its moments (like the part where he is changing the passport photo or when he's walking through the Italian wet market).
Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow were at the height of their beauty in this movie. The movie preserves it besides the excellent wardrobe they wore. Whenever I picture Italian Riviera, I picture these two and their outfits. Absolutely timeless and beautiful.
The nice thing about Italy is that if you go to places like Giarre, or Taormina, Positano etc you will be able dress like in the 50s and you will look very stylish and fit really nicely with all the elegant architecture, people and landscape. My favorite romantic summer evening: Moonlight walk and drink on Taormina's square balcony overylooking the sea, the city is quite high from the sea so you feel quite suspended between the sky and the sea... and if Etna is errupting at that moment ... well the experience is unforgetable.
His smoke grey glasses at 5:47 with the diamond hinge guards are indeed 1950s vintage BGC glasses made for the military. They were manufactured under contract by Shuron Optical and Bausch & Lomb. Edit: Superb video, and I will check this movie out!
I fell in love with Ripley’s leather tote ever since I saw the film. I bought a Madewell Transport tote years later because it somewhat reminded me of the Ripley tote.
I did notice that the corduroy sport coat was actually a 3 roll two button sport coat. It took me a minute to catch it until a close up where the button hole spread enough for me to compare at the wider shot.
I love this film! Jack Davenport is excellent in it as Peter Smith-Kingsley as well. A very underrated actor. Love the styles in it. RIP Anthony Minghella. Died far too young.
I really don’t get why are you smaller than other style channels, i find your presentation better, your content more mature and your style is above them all(especially Raphael). It’s just puzzling to me, those people that tell you alpha dis sigma dat have more views, it’s laughable. I really don’t get how someone who dresses like frat boy in his 40s has more appreciation… Anyway I really enjoy your content, you’ve made me fall In love with classic menswear. PS: I really love this movie
when I first saw the movie I fell in love w dickie’s outfits but a few years later I had to check out what he’s wearing again so I could use as guidance for my outfits this holiday
You have a very luxuries style and you create content that really helps us your viewers to understand the gentlemens style. The name Gentlemens Gazzets suits this page.
I need help to really SEE the differences between the fit of an inexpensive vs high quality suit. I wish you could have a live model with you as each suit evaluated. It may just be my problem but when the fabric responds to movement in either suit I cannot actually tell why one is better. I need a side by side comparison! 😎
One of my favorite movies, if not the nineties' favorite (well, almost)! So, Mr. Schneider, you are (again, almost!) forgiven for your blasphemous characterization of Hitchcock's Vertigo as "boring." ;) That said, better keep on atoning with brilliant videos like this one! :)
Loced the in-depth look at the outfits in the movie! Just as a small addition - there's no way Tom's Hamilton watch was quartz - quartz was introduced in 1969. It was also most likely not automatic, because Hamilton used to put manual movements in the square cases. My guess is it's manual winding.
I have been looking FOR YEARS for the Gentleman's beautiful, gorgeous, elegant, fantastic leather zipped case. Edit: 16:30. It's got to be a fifties style and outrageously expensive. I haven't watch your video yet, but reaching out in a desperate, desperate need of want to possess one.Can anybody suggest pointers? Thank you.
Love it guys i need help am from france and i don' found the quality outfit and i can't buy from internet problems of sizes ... Do you have a solution for me ??
My favourite movie (and book) of all-time. Let's hope that the TV series being made called 'Ripley' (HBO) will do the books justice. Andrew Scott as Tom will be interesting.
Here's a video proposal: What about the best dressed rock stars? From the '70s onward, some rockers went against the Glam/Punk esthetic and opted for elegant outfits instead. I would start with Charlie Watts (The Rolling Stones), Graham Bonnet (Rainbow), Brian May (Queen) and Robert Palmer. Who else wants this video? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!
How surprised I was for all the information you give on clothes and shoes and accessories but it is interesting. It only relates tangentially to the plot except when you underline Ripley's efforts to play personas.
I have to say that some of it looks slightly off. The colours are a little too muted and the women's makeup looks slightly costumey. Some scenes look very accurate while others do not. One thing they missed were skinny abstract design ties which were well-in style by the late '50s.
Can’t speak for what the actual prop was, but the watch mr Ripley is wearing would’ve been a manual wind piece, as the first quartz wrist watch, the Seiko Astron, was released on christmas day of 1969.
Holy Research! What a detailed video! Thank you very much.. so interesting. Just watched the film... answered my style questions Plus. 10 stars Gazette.
I love the difference he has to look in order to be two people. After Dickie's death he now has to pretend to be Dickie when around Meredith hence the more polished style and look and Tom when when around Marge he has to look somewhat more used looking and average style.
I fit more in the Mr. Ripley camp of dressing; however, I lean towards bowties over straight ties. I will accept a collar, but decline the leash. Aside from my opinions on neckwear, this is just algorithmic fodder.
I‘m not really into american fashion. I prefer the style of La Grande Bellezza. This stiff und oversized american chunky looks seem to be very stained compared to the effortless italian style.
Jude law's Dickie Grenleaf is one of the best dressed characters of all time. The scene at the Cafe is perfection.
One of the best dressed of all time???? Either you have really low standards or you haven't seen a lot of movies...
o yes. Every single thing in this movie is perfect.
Now you should review the original the French version; (1960) “ A Plein Soleil” or “Purple Noon” with Alain Delon. One of THE most iconic summer style movies ever produced.
oooooh....thank you! I'll check it out.
Purple noon is my favorite
A much better movie also
Yes, Alain Delon is really interesting to watch in that movie. I prefer the 1999 version, but Plein soleil has its moments (like the part where he is changing the passport photo or when he's walking through the Italian wet market).
The way Alain Delon wears a tailored suit is casual chic gold! ❤
Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow were at the height of their beauty in this movie. The movie preserves it besides the excellent wardrobe they wore. Whenever I picture Italian Riviera, I picture these two and their outfits. Absolutely timeless and beautiful.
Yesss!!! This is one of my favorite movies and not a lot of big RUclips channels have made videos about it but I’m so glad it’s you guys!
Love everything about this film. The era, NY, Italy, jazz, and the style
The nice thing about Italy is that if you go to places like Giarre, or Taormina, Positano etc you will be able dress like in the 50s and you will look very stylish and fit really nicely with all the elegant architecture, people and landscape.

This was a fascinating commentary on one of my favorite films. Thank you.
His smoke grey glasses at 5:47 with the diamond hinge guards are indeed 1950s vintage BGC glasses made for the military. They were manufactured under contract by Shuron Optical and Bausch & Lomb.
Edit: Superb video, and I will check this movie out!
You are a pleasure to watch and listen to. Your enjoyment and humor are contagious.
I always loved the clothes in this movie but your keen eye and analysis knocks it out of the park. Thank you for your insight.
the interiors of the different homes, the clothes, the scenery…dream aesthetics
I really wanted somebody to review this movie regarding the wardrobe of the characters. Thank u so much, Gent's Gazzete!
18:30 I think these types of knitted shirts are called italian knit shirts. Very cool and colourful.
I love this film! Jack Davenport is excellent in it as Peter Smith-Kingsley as well. A very underrated actor. Love the styles in it.
RIP Anthony Minghella. Died far too young.
Wonderful video. I hope you make more of these.
Awesomeness such a great review! Absolutely splendid! the movie IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE……..another awesome classic menswear enthusiast film

What a style! Love your videos Gentleman's gazzete
when I first saw the movie I fell in love w dickie’s outfits but a few years later I had to check out what he’s wearing again so I could use as guidance for my outfits this holiday
Could you make a video on the style of Gianni Agnelli?
You have a very luxuries style and you create content that really helps us your viewers to understand the gentlemens style. The name Gentlemens Gazzets suits this page.

This is one of the greatest movies ever and dickies style is perfect for spring and summer. Great breakdown of the looks
Great video... thank you.

I think the movie takes place in 1959, since i noticed it on one of the letters in the movie.
I have been looking FOR YEARS for the Gentleman's beautiful, gorgeous, elegant, fantastic leather zipped case. Edit: 16:30. It's got to be a fifties style and outrageously expensive. You hit the nail on the head. Tom’s power does lie on the clothing. Just like Superman is not himself till he’s in his hero attire.
Love these reviews. I would love you to make a review of "The Gentleman". I am new to your channel, and I am loving the content.
Maybe you could review Brideshead Revisited - a brilliant miniseries from the eighties..
I would love to hear what you have to say about NBC's Hannibal wardrobe.
Love it guys i need help am from france and i don' found the quality outfit and i can't buy from internet problems of sizes ... Do you have a solution for me ??
Finally !!! Thank you!
A fantastic video based on one of my favourite films. What else can I ask for.
At some time could you review the style of Hastings in Poirot starring David Suchet in the title role?
Great job. I love you fall outfit.
this film is one i dont pull from for my fashion but a superb one indeed
Just a little correction, the watch is a Hamilton Boulton.
I think that the Movie took place in 1958. In The Price Of Salt, the storyline began in 1952 in December.
Yay another gentlemen's gazette video!
I looove you dancing freely Sven!! 🤩😂😂🤩 oh i mean i like 😬 (cuz as you said its gentleman rule to not use word "love" more often")
my only memory of this movie is watching it as a 10 year old and despite having seen many horror movies, i was absolutely horrified at the oar scene
Yeah he was a disturbing character
You guys should do movie wardrobe consulting.
What about :
A single man (2009) - Tom Ford's Film !
My favourite movie (and book) of all-time. Let's hope that the TV series being made called 'Ripley' (HBO) will do the books justice. Andrew Scott as Tom will be interesting.

Great vid!!!!
You need to do this for American Psycho!
How surprised I was for all the information you give on clothes and shoes and accessories but it is interesting. It only relates tangentially to the plot except when you underline Ripley's efforts to play personas.
Tom Ripley is wearing a 3 button rolled to the second button coat. I think it might also have a centre vent
Gracias 😉
Do a video on the style of Netflix's new show Ripley!! 👀
His watch is an automatic watch because the first quartz watches were introduced in 1969.
I have to say that some of it looks slightly off. The colours are a little too muted and the women's makeup looks slightly costumey. Some scenes look very accurate while others do not. One thing they missed were skinny abstract design ties which were well-in style by the late '50s.

Great video, could you do The Godfather 2 next?
Holy Research! What a detailed video! Thank you very much.. so interesting. Just watched the film... answered my style questions Plus. 10 stars Gazette.
Very interesting
Awesome I always wondered about dickie outfits
Ouuu i'll watch it tonight now :)
You should view the original as the style is unmatched
Funny I just saw the film couple nights ago.
I love the difference he has to look in order to be two people. After Dickie's death he now has to pretend to be Dickie when around Meredith hence the more polished style and look and Tom when when around Marge he has to look somewhat more used looking and average style.
What about talented mr ripley with Alain delon from 1960 the original
you should have review the first version ''purple noon'' which is the best one by far when it come to clothing and style .
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I fit more in the Mr. Ripley camp of dressing; however, I lean towards bowties over straight ties. I will accept a collar, but decline the leash.
Aside from my opinions on neckwear, this is just algorithmic fodder.
You should do a reaction for "Back to the Future "
I remember hating this movie at the time cuz Linus just went around lying to and then murdering people
💝
You forgot to include the obnoxious, but VERY stylish Freddie!
how to dress like buddy holly?
Glasses from the film could be American optics
No where near plein soleil 1960
You should do a video about how to dress like if you are poor! 😂
We would like to see a style review of Cruella (2021 film)
Electric watches in 1950's were very rare and not very good. Quartz watches were nonexistent.
Do a review on John Wick.
you are wearing cuffed pants? Not in today's men's fashion. Plus, pleated pants and too baggy.
I‘m not really into american fashion. I prefer the style of La Grande Bellezza. This stiff und oversized american chunky looks seem to be very stained compared to the effortless italian style.
Everything is based off cookies, when it weren't crooked it was based in cookies. Now that it is same cookie.
Jude law, peltro were the other two actors I was trying to remember
