Hey man. I just stopped by to say that I just completed the build of two stands, almost as fancy as yours. They’re going in a room with old black and white family photos, in old frames. I used your antique painting method… and they turned out better than I expected. From 3 feet away, they look like I brought them home from the antique store! I ended up using a cabinet and furniture oil enriched enamel, for the tough shell. White with a dirt colored brown. Thanks for the tips!!! All I could find on the interwebs was crappy chalk paint for antiquing. You’re a hero in my book.
Nice, the 1x boards are the best for building stands. I built mine using radiata pine back in 2010 using pocket hole joints with a face frame and 1x4 boards joined into panels for the sides etc. The folks who use 4x4 etc way overbuild.
Great craftsmanship! A bit much to take in, in 11 minutes please do get me wrong, you were fantastic. Are you for hire? I would like to make an attempt to build a stand and canopy for a 75 gallon.
Thanks for the compliment. ...and yes, it's a lot. In my defense, I warned that it wasn't a DIY project, and the whole point was to show what can go into a project like that. Did you see the hutch build video? It's a bit simpler, and was a second part of this build. Thanks for watching!
Hi Jason, love this project you are sharing. What rail and stile bits do you use? i bought some from Harbor Freight and im gettting sub par results for making the side panels.
Oh, it was 1 inch. I just bought a bunch of boards, and cut to size. 3/4 would have worked just fine, but the 1" was all they had on hand at the lumber yard.
"Die hard wood workers and communists," wait what? After replay, oh i gotcha', hobbyist. Dead serious I heard the communist bit the first go round, so had to sub just to hear more about your communist news letter.

Freud 99-260. Good luck!
Thank you. Was there one size stock that you cut from? It looks like 3/4" thick.
