    New experiment with the plastic foil material, here using 2 colours, simply wipe clean once the first colour is finished and apply the second.Using Yellow Ochre and Black oil paint.
    details to follow.
    Materials :
    Foil (metallised plastic film)
    200gsm smooth card
    Scrap card for template frame 5" × 7"
    Masking tape
    Black, Yellow Ochre oil paint. (Winsor and Newton, Georgian range)
    Rags or soft sponge
    Pallet knife (plastic)
    Method :
    Because this foil plastic is thicker than the type of plastic that I have used in previous demos it can be a bit more versatile, you can achieve some interesting marks and it is a lot tougher so can take more pressure without damaging the transfer sheet, when finished just wipe clean with a rag and it's all ready to use again. This is great for achieving softer tones and adding depth to the monoprint and you can combine this with the thinner plastic to get the fine line details.

    I have always been fascinated with abstract paintings and have watched a ton of videos on the subject, but none ever "spoke" to me or inspired action. After watching just one of your videos and I knew this is the technique that I had been looking for. The possibilities of this seems endless. Thank you for all your efforts and time to bring this to us. 👏👏👏

    I don't think abstract is a waste of time/ink/paper/blahblahblah. It speaks VOLUMES to those of us willing to listen. Dan, you are a terrific teacher!

      I realise abstract art isn't quite to everyone's taste, but these techniques can be used for other types of compositions. Thanks for the positive comments.

    When I first started taking art classes and going to galleries, I would see the old masters and the beautiful landscapes and wish I could paint like that, then I would see the abstracts, and think eh not sure I like that or (the old line) anyone can do that, so abstracts were not for me... one day I went into a restaurant and there on the wall was an abstract painting, and I loved it! Since then(about 20 years ago) that is what I’m drawn to. Art isn’t really the image itself, but how it makes you feel, and I love the feeling your art gives me😄

      That is a good point, I often hope that with some of my abstract work I can in some way translate the feeling I get when I create the work. I get a few negative comments such as it's a waste of paint or just pure rubbish, but I suppose that is OK we all respond to art in different ways. Thanks for your feedback and I'm pleased you enjoy the videos.

    Ah, this is great Dan - going to try it with the unrecyclable plastic film that they put around bottles and jars these days. I print with a small mangle and it will be interesting to see the textures created by adding a greater pressure and to see if I can get some intestesting rips and tears - loving this series :)

      Thanks, I always like yo try and use recycled materials and things that would generally end up in landfill sites, and sometimes it can lead to much more interesting artwork, so that helps. Thanks for watching.

    One more thanks, Mr Tirels, for all your videos, - I guess I've seen all you published -, and still continue looking forward to new ones !
    Your work is, in some way, addictive, and encourages us to try your techniques ! As you seem to prefer oil paint, and not acrylic, I'd lke to ask how much time one has to wait for a really dry work to put it, without any problem, under frame ? Thanks in advance for your estmated advice.

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  5 лет назад +2

      Thanks for your positive comments I really appreciate your feedback. The drying time for oil paint can sometimes depend on the temperature and thickness of the paint. I would leave them at least a week to be sure but the work on canvas can take longer (2 - 3 weeks) Thanks for watching the videos.

    I enjoyed watching this video. The finished result looks great. I notice that sometimes you use oil paint and other times acrylic paint for your videos. Do you have a preference? Thanks, Dan.

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  5 лет назад +3

      For a long time I only ever used acrylic but have found that oil paint gets better results for the monoprinting techniques, and the trick is to use a very small amount.

  • @mikerodrick2430

    For this process, do you always use oil paint or can it be done on canvas with acrylics, & how heavy should the type of paint be? Thin? Thanks for your videos. Creating these types of images without tools is amazing.

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  4 года назад +3

      Yes acrylics work well with this technique it just needs to be worked faster and it helps to use a retarder for slowing down the drying time of the acrylic paint.

    • @DanTirels

      I find a smooth card works best, use a heavyweight 200gsm, which you will find in all craft shops, it's the kind that card makers use so you should find it anywhere.

    Will this work with acrylics?

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  2 года назад

      Yes but you will need to work faster or work on small sections. A retarder to slow the drying will also help.
