    My daughter lived in DC. Each time I flew up to see her I grabbed the free DC tourist magazine from the rack. At her apt, I took about 30 minutes and folded the pages in half and then cutting them out by tearing with a ruler. Then I gessoed each page and used the pages to write about and include ephemera from the visit. At the time, I had never heard of travelers notebooks. And yet I developed my own version of one out of a desire to document and create. Watching your video reminded me of those sweet memories. I need to pull all those TN out and flip through them again. I love your videos and just subscribed!

    I just finished watching your video. I was so inspired that I had to go make the journal. I couldn't find a magazine,so I used a calendar, like the ones get in the mail at Christmas time. I needed to start with less pages. I followed your instructions and I have to tell it turned out gorgeous. Every page have a beautiful picture on it. Thank you for sharing your talent.

      Hey Anne.....I think I'm going to love this size too. So far, it's one of my favorite things, so easy to work in. A couple of years ago, I used something a little larger for my journal and loved it, so this is a natural fit...BUT I'm not giving up my magazine journal and weekly spread. Love that too. TFW. Joanne

    How did I miss this gem???? Life got in the way and I was delayed in checking in. You never cease to amaze me, Miss Joanne! You are always taking things to that next level and I LOVE IT! What a clever idea! I agree with you, I struggle with those large pages and what to do with them to fill them up. I also have images that I am saving just because I like them and could never get them to work in my journal. This is just the coolest idea and I can't thank you enough for sharing! I bought a ton of blank TNs at Michaels about a year ago and had no idea what I'd do with them.....until now! :) Thank you!!!

      Hi Debra! Oh YAY...super happy you can use this idea and get those images glued down to paper! I was working in my TN this morning and just found it SO easy to put my pages together. I'm still keeping the full size magazine for journaling weekly and I will definitely do the occasional big art journal page....but this little TN is going to fit nicely alongside my morning routine! SO glad you were able to watch the video...thanks as always for your awesome support. Joanne

    I absolutely love your creative mind!! OMG! I'm have such a big stash of magazines that several family and friends have given me over the last ten years and I was going to get the recipes from them that I liked and info on different subjects. But it kind of never happened. I started clearing out all my excess items and low and behold was going to recycle all the magazines. Then you come along and inspire my love for art. Now I'm nothing but excited! Thankyou so much for all your videos. Blessings

      @craftyhodges  7 лет назад

      Hi Nadja! Oh I know exactly what you mean about acquiring a stash of magazines! I have a lot too and I feel guilty just tossing them. This is a great way to use them - even if you have torn pages out of them. I've already made 2 more TN journals, they are that quick! Have fun making them and if you have any questions, please just ask. Good luck folding and gluing! Joanne

    This is really cool. I used a mag a few years back for an art journal but I used wet medium. Recently I used one of those 8x8's that were in a pack at Target this winter. This idea is AWESOME! I love using materials I already have. YOU ROCK!!

    • @craftyhodges
      @craftyhodges  7 лет назад

      YOU rock for taking the time to offer up such a sweet and kind comment - thank you. Magazines are just so darn versatile, but wet medium can sometimes do them in. Did yours hold up okay? I like being able to use the things I have too...and this journal didn't require me to buy anything - I had everything right at hand. TFW and commenting. Joanne

      I have a few pages where the images were so cool I basically left them uncovered. Here and there I may have added a sticker over some wording or something. And I will admit it....I DID get so sidetracked by some of the images that I stopped and rescued them for other ideas. So shoot me. HAHA.

      willowingchintz LOL...I love it! Leaving images you ❤️ is what it's all about right!? I haven't done that yet, but I am pretty sure there are some images in there I am going to keep exposed. Hope you share some pics of your journal - I would love to see it. Joanne

    Another great journal. I've made a magazine journal and have about 3 or 4 pages done. I still sometimes struggle with what I'm going to put in it or how the pages turn out. I'm going to keep going with it and I'm sure it will get easier. I love your pages. Thanks for sharing!

      Hi Diane.....hooray for making a journal!!! That's great news. What are you using it for? Art journal, recording everyday things, etc.? The biggest thing I can tell you is to just let go....don't worry about what your pages look like, it they are meaningful to you - they are fabulous! You'll also find your style will shift as you start to become more and more comfortable working in your journal. Maybe you should think about making a TN...the smaller pages may work better for you! If I can help in anyway, please just let me know. Joanne

      I'm kind of doing a bit of both. Art and daily/monthly journaling. I do love the smaller journal that you recently posted so I think I'll make of those also. So far I think making the journal has been my favorite part. And I agree it's for me and I will keep playing and hopefully get more comfortable. Thank you for the encouragement!

      @craftyhodges  7 лет назад +1

      Diane Dodge I ❤️ the smaller journal, especially for my art journaling, though I will likely keep the full size magazine for my weekly journaling. You just have to find what works best for you...sometimes easier said than done right?! I am here to help if you need anything. Joanne

      LOL.....I know what you mean - when I made my first one, I used a rather dull blade on my X-acto knife...a new blade made all the difference....THAT and a little more patience when cutting through the paper. Take a piece of sand paper to the bottom of it and lightly sand it....that should help even things up.

      Hey Corrine! I hope you consider making one of these - they are SO fun and addictive to make. The size is just amazing. I know alot of people are already using TN, but I find that having it made from a magazine takes all of the pressure off of having to make perfect pages! TFW. Joanne

    This looks so far I think I want to give it a try maybe. I think I might have a real Oprah magazine i can use. I tried making my own Tn once it did not work out well but this might be easier. The hardest thing for me is cutting it down to size. I found the video though the fauxbo FB group then went back to this video to see how you did it.

      Hi Donna! You CAN do this...it's super simple and you're right....cutting off the length is the hardest part. Be sure to have a sharp x-acto knife or cutting tool and take your time.....slow slices through the magazine. I think it took me about 10 passes before I was all the way through. If it's a little crooked...1) who cares and 2) use a sanding block to even it up a bit. Just have fun. Be sure to check out the video I just posted which includes a flip of the journal! TFW. Joanne

      Lynn had a great idea taking it Fed Ex, or I suspect Staples, Office Depot, etc. will also have the ability to cut down the magazine. Most importantly - have fun! Joanne
