Thanks for measuring out that first tree. I would've assumed 8-9 inches and thought that this seemed really under powered. 12 inches seems way more appropriate for the time it took to cut.
This was my exact thought process as well, was pretty disappointed until he measured it and pointed out it was hardwood. (Still learning my trees, and I don't believe we have Hickory where I live) Very nice little tool all things considered!

I've seen several pieces of equipment to shear trees that were a two part system. A grapple that secures the tree while the shear cuts it at the ground. That way it doesn't just free fall after being cut. This thing looks great for vertical cuts once a tree is already felled, but crazy dangerous to do the initial felling.

Andrew, I've ribbed you about breaking your stuff over the years. However, I've been flying airplanes for 37 years. You take that stuff seriously, especially everything they teach you about weather and the flight envelope of your aircraft. You will make a good pilot I have no doubt and you are old enough to appreciate the risks/rewards. I have several friends that flew helicopters in Vietnam and they will be the first to tell you the first few lessons can be frustrating but fun. I don't know how far along you are but make sure to do a thorough pre-buy inspection with an inspector/mechanic YOU choose, not the owner. It ain't gonna be cheap but it sure will be fun. Doc
Awesome! I’m doing just the opposite. I’ve been flying helicopters for 20 years and just bought my first backhoe. After 20 years the backhoe is more fun! Good luck!

I have been a machine repair man and a tool and die maker in industrial factories. For over 35 years. I am 100% positive if you said down with a hydraulic specialist that does fabricating, I am 100% positive he could put a hydraulic pump on the back side of that plate. And no matter what would you pulled over to those sisters would close and of story. And it would take from your hydraulic tank and dump it right back into it but you would need to get someone involved that really knows hydraulics. And I'm sure he could come up with a pump nothing would stop. I'm just throwing that out there because I seen things like this done on my job. I think this set up is so awesome and I'm just throwing this out to you Andrew maybe you take this suggestion and maybe you don't, either way I still agree with you that is one awesome attachment thumbs up on that one buddy
Nice video on the tree shear. But you should find a wider area for a helipad. Mountain winds can be tricky and dangerous for helicopters. Also look into onsite weather reporting equipment to aid in your approach and departure. Andrew be safe. We all love you Cody and your friends and family.
I’d definitely consider having a forestry guard for whatever machine you use the shear on. Since you’re always cutting from the back of the tree with no face cut as you’d do with a chainsaw, you’re creating an opportunity for barber chairing with the tree. Most of the trees will be relatively small, I get that, but even that leaning oak you sheared barber chaired. While the shear has some sort of a guard on it, pretty much just a push plate, only takes one bad scenario to have that butt end enter the cab. Just a thought. Enjoyed the video as always.
The tree shearer really works well taking down even good size trees and the skid steer makes it look easy to do. I saw you had to do some alterations on the plugs, but as always you find a way to make it work.
Looks to be very useful for chopping logs to length. Looks a bit sketchy felling trees as seems the tree could fall on loader. I like how your excavator knocks out a tree, roots and stump and all.
Was about to say the same, he doesn't even have a windshield on it. A branch can impale him. Even if the tree falls on the ground, a branch can snap and go full speed towards him impaling him. This is just too much of a risk in my opinion.
Andrew , you always surprise us with some new gadget , Loved the cutter, ability to rotate vertically was great, looked ! Can’t wait until the “I bought a Helicopter” video.
Well, if he gets a bucket and/or a winch attachment for it it surely becomes even more handy than it is already. Even when this is probably not necessary since Andrew has enough machines that fulfill the said specifications already. (Wheel Loader, Crane, etc.)

I have a commercial pilot's license and have flown Robinson helicopters out of Birmingham. This idea reminds me of Davey Allison the race car driver who died piloting a helicopter he just purchased while trying to land at a nearby race track. I knew his instructor, and I was friends with the neurosurgeon who tried to save Davey. Helicopters are expensive to operate and very unforgiving to fly, so please approach this idea with caution and adequate research. I don't want a repeat of this tragedy.
I think this comment should be voted higher up. The danger of flying near mountain ridges in wind and in close proximity to steep cliffs and structures should not be underestimated. Should he turn that pad into a landing site, there would only be one way in and out. He can do it- but he should not rush in to it, especially as a novice pilot. -another pilot
@@armyranger9346 a car is not the same as a helicopter lol and there is far less cars flying in the sky than helicopters 🤣... okay bill Clinton bahahahaha

Today the R44 sells for about $475,000, the R22 for about $300,000 and the R66 - a five-seat turbine-powered model introduced in 2010 - for about $900,000. In all, Robinson has made more than 12,000 helicopters, with at least 60% of recent sales going to foreign buyers. Robinson Helicopter Crash History In total, there have been more than 1,600 accidents or incidents involving Robinson Helicopter aircraft, 404 of them fatal accidents resulting in 715 deaths. ~ Just some stats and, they seem a bit higher than other rotor-craft. I too agree with the latter part of your comment. (so please approach this idea with caution and adequate research.) ~~ Davey Allison : On July 12, 1993, Allison boarded his newly acquired Hughes 369HS helicopter to fly to Talladega Superspeedway to watch family friend Neil Bonnett and his son David test a car for David's Busch Series debut. He picked up another family friend, racer Red Farmer, en route to the track. Allison was attempting to land the helicopter inside a fenced-in area of the track infield when the craft nosed up suddenly, then crashed. Neil Bonnett freed the semi-conscious Farmer from the wreckage, but Allison was unresponsive and could not be freed until paramedics arrived. Farmer went on to a lengthy but successful recovery, but Allison never regained consciousness after sustaining a critical head injury. He was pronounced dead at 7:00 a.m. the next morning by a neurosurgeon at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham after a procedure to relieve pressure on his brain proved unsuccessful.[10] The National Transportation Safety Board[11] (NTSB) blamed the crash on Allison's inexperience in helicopters, coupled with the decision to attempt a landing. In early 1994, Allison's estate filed a lawsuit against McDonnell-Douglas claiming the cause of the crash was a failure of the collective yoke on the helicopter. Birmingham attorney Jim Thompson presented evidence from a metallurgist showing that the cast metal piece contained air pockets and paint inside the part, claiming “that meant the part was defective the day it left the factory.” A test pilot reconstruction showed identical results to Allison's crash. McDonnell-Douglas and the Allison estate reached a confidential settlement out of court in early 1996.[12] Thousands packed the auditorium at St. Aloysius Church in Bessemer, Alabama, to pay their respects at his funeral. He is buried near his brother, Clifford, in Bessemer's Highland Memorial Gardens. His organs except his corneas were donated.[13] After the final race of the season, series champion Dale Earnhardt and race winner Rusty Wallace drove a side-by-side Polish Victory Lap carrying flags for fallen drivers Alan Kulwicki and Allison. In his short NASCAR Winston Cup career, Allison posted 19 wins, 66 top-five finishes, and 92 top-ten finishes. He also won 14 poles and earned $6,724,174. He is survived by his wife, Liz, and two children: daughter Krista Marie and son Robert "Robbie" Grey.

Andrew I can think of quite a few jobs that you've done in the past but that would have been a very very helpful piece of equipment I'd truly enjoy watching your videos cuz you never know what you're going to see
Think about incorporating a helicopter pad in the plans when you enclose that area where your vehicle lift is. Add a helicopter pad on top of that 200 foot long service shed. It will reduce your gravel displacement because instead of landing on the ground you're landing 20 feet off the ground.
That shear, adapted to fit on the end of an excavator, would be brilliant for dismantling dodgy trees in awkward places without climbing. Could do with a claw to grip the bit you've just cut.........just an idea.Great vid as always, thanks.
@@clypeum5063 can get them with a shear too for the smaller stuff. Pretty damn efficient they are too, when used for the right job. I say small, I know you can certainly get shears up to 400mm capacity.

@@clypeum5063 you'd need to ask the manufacturers and users. I'm simply pointing out they exist. But if o had to guess then Andrews point about simplicity, lack of need to sharpen chains, fewer moving parts so less to go wrong and also cheaper are probably all factors.

Love a bit of Upstate Brush Control! Their drum mulcher is intense, but given how stony and rocky the ground conditions are where Andrew lives and works I'm concerned it would become a perpetual shrapnel machine!
I'm really surprised some of these equipment suppliers haven't caught onto the fact that if their stuff passes the Andrew Test they would have achieved significant prestige with their product! I hope you are asking them for a good deal considering the amount of videos you post showcasing their kit, and that they take notice of any defects discovered by you and put them right!!
He's been taking lessons. I just hope he treats it with a bit more respect than he does other equipment. Most winged vehicles don't like abuse, instead when they break, it's a very bad day...
I caught that, too. Maybe providing medevac access or Andrew has something to lift into the mountain top property, like a modular building. Fabricate at the shop and sling load the pieces to the mountain top for assembly.
Two things - is there an issue with controlling the direction the tree falls? Seems like it went the way it was leaning every time. Also, please remember that your oxy acetylene cutting torch is not an approved helicopter repair tool
When you get your helicopter the muddy road will not matter. May need one that will pick up a tank. Moving equipment will be no problem. I’m wanting to see the equipment sheds built to keep all this great equipment you’re buying put inside out of the weather. Stay safe Andrew
I love this channel and think its really cool you're taking flying lessons but please for the love of god let someone else work on your heli if you ever buy one.
Love the videos, but that ling looks dangerous as hell to me to taking down trees. Once they're down it would be great handling them, but there's too much of a chance of them barber chairing right into the cab of the excavator as they fall. Stay safe my friend.
Exactly what I was thinking. That thing is death waiting to happen. If a tree decides to kick out on you as it falls you don't want to be anywhere near its trunk. Plus if a wind gust huts to top branches it could topple back on that cab. That cab wouldn't be able to take a couple of tons off wood falling on it at the speed it'd be as it excellerated and came down. I think thar is a ridiculous waste of cash.
@@SteveRivett. That's true. A skid stear doesn't tho. A tree coming down that kicks backwards is the most serious danger using that contraption. It's why loggers always make sure they have a trip proof escape area behind and beside them as they're making the final cuts. Personally, I wouldn't trust that thing. It's good for stuff already on the ground but definitely not for taking down the trees Andrew was. The only thing that concerns me about a open shear is the lack of tree control versus safety. Even though you may run up on a tree that is strong enough, it may cause you to back away quickly or possibly twist the shear and tractor over so quick that you may not be able to counter it's fall. I'd add a high rack like on the Forestry mulcher attachment to at least keep it off of the cab and you.
I can just picture when Andrew has a daughter, first meeting with her boyfriend.. "Hey come on over here, let me show you some of the cool machines i have. Hey Andrew ! Always love watching whatever you are doing and watching Cody ...what a companionship you 2 have. We do miss gentleman Levi ....everything looks great and a large enough area looks to be cleared...your work and achievements are remarkably flawless and spot on when all is said and done ! Good job ! 👍you are a very impressive young man...your dad did good by you...but your character and determination defines the accomplished man that you are ! I'm the mother of 8 grown children...and they too are very successfully blessed. It does a mother's heart good to watch her own but also others such as yourself ! Stay the course Andrew ! You're amazing!
Awesome job as always Andrew. These videos keep me and my kids entertained. We love seeing your world. It's truly amazing.
Waiting for the 5 hour video of buying and repairing an R44 Helicopter.
The style that holds the tree is $32k , this one is $3-4k , I just bought a similar one for 3200$ from MTL
Looks great but you have no control of where the tree lands it’s a bit scary but a great tool in your arsenal great vid buddy cheers 👍🇬🇧
Hey Andrew that tree shear u got for ur skid steer works awesome cutting them trees down cause u don't have to worry about them falling on u and getting hurt or killed that's why I like watching ur videos cause u have always got all kinds of stuff to work with and try out to make sure they work good enough and see if they will hold up to what u put them thru and making sure u still safe doing the stuff be safe and always be careful doing what u do and another thing love seeing Cody running around and having fun keep on making videos and I'll keep on watching them buddy
This channels is Great, coming from a Union Iron Worker, Local 37, for the past 17 years. There's SO MUCH people can learn from this channel. Great Work man, you should be proud of yourself.🤟🤪✌️✌️
Thanks
Next video: "I just bought a helicopter!" Love how Andrew keeps the yard nice and tidy. I am sure you will be looking forward to getting your planned expansion of the covered storage/work area done. It will be nice to have all your attachments and some equipment lined up under cover!
Doc
You know that’s not going to happen though, don’t you…
Awesome! I’m doing just the opposite. I’ve been flying helicopters for 20 years and just bought my first backhoe. After 20 years the backhoe is more fun! Good luck!
Andrew, you DEFINITELY HAVE THE COOLEST TOYS!.......love your show !
Andrew super nice having Chris right down the road to make those hoses!!!!
Trees are all well and good, but I really want to see how well it works on the dashboard next time you install a new radio.
His helicopter is definitely going to need a radio.
Andrew never disappoints. I could watch this channel for hours. Awesome content!!! Thanks for sharing Mr. Camarata!!
Andrew, I believe that this unit was a good investment, take it on top of the mountain, use it for clearing and firewood. No need to drag a log splitter around either. Great videos and job.👍👍👍
Very impressive that tree shear attachment, Andrew !! Thanks for sharing.
It’s his drone he’s talking about lol
Love watching you drop trees on your own equipment.
Your a natural "pilot" from birth. Best and most challenging, rewarding skill I've ever learned.!
Never a perfect flight.
Blue skies Sir!
Missed you, Andrew! I've binged all your videos twice over. Thanks for the new.
Glad you're ok, staying busy.
The tree shearer really works well taking down even good size trees and the skid steer makes it look easy to do. I saw you had to do some alterations on the plugs, but as always you find a way to make it work.
Andrew, you're doing a great job. Keep going and don't look back.
Awesome addition to your equipment does an excellent job on those hard wood trees. Stay safe out there and have a blessed day. Aloha from Kansas
Andrew , you always surprise us with some new gadget , Loved the cutter, ability to rotate vertically was great, looked ! Can’t wait until the “I bought a Helicopter” video.
That telehandler seems like it's as useful as an excavator (for doing different kinds of jobs but still very versatile)
You can actually add a bucket to it and use it as a wheel loader as well :)
Well, if he gets a bucket and/or a winch attachment for it it surely becomes even more handy than it is already. Even when this is probably not necessary since Andrew has enough machines that fulfill the said specifications already. (Wheel Loader, Crane, etc.)
I'm convinced that telehandlers are among the greatest inventions of all time.
@@alanpecherer5705 Especially Telehandlers that can turn 360 degrees like the Manitou MRT 3570 ES Vison. God, this thing is amazing!
JCB has teleskids. Telehandlers with tracks.

Your going to have awesome Golden years when you hit that Age.
@@armyranger9346 " How many people die every day from "piloting" a car? "
Far fewer than die in helicopters, when you adjust for the fact that a lot more people drive cars than fly helicopters.
I assumed he was joking lol😂
Today the R44 sells for about $475,000, the R22 for about $300,000 and the R66 - a five-seat turbine-powered model introduced in 2010 - for about $900,000. In all, Robinson has made more than 12,000 helicopters, with at least 60% of recent sales going to foreign buyers.
Robinson Helicopter Crash History
In total, there have been more than 1,600 accidents or incidents involving Robinson Helicopter aircraft, 404 of them fatal accidents resulting in 715 deaths.
~
Just some stats and, they seem a bit higher than other rotor-craft.
I too agree with the latter part of your comment. (so please approach this idea with caution and adequate research.)

Davey Allison : On July 12, 1993, Allison boarded his newly acquired Hughes 369HS helicopter to fly to Talladega Superspeedway to watch family friend Neil Bonnett and his son David test a car for David's Busch Series debut. He was pronounced dead at 7:00 a.m. the next morning by a neurosurgeon at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham after a procedure to relieve pressure on his brain proved unsuccessful.[10]
The National Transportation Safety Board[11] (NTSB) blamed the crash on Allison's inexperience in helicopters, coupled with the decision to attempt a landing. McDonnell-Douglas and the Allison estate reached a confidential settlement out of court in early 1996.[12]
Thousands packed the auditorium at St. Aloysius Church in Bessemer, Alabama, to pay their respects at his funeral. He is buried near his brother, Clifford, in Bessemer's Highland Memorial Gardens. His organs except his corneas were donated.[13]
After the final race of the season, series champion Dale Earnhardt and race winner Rusty Wallace drove a side-by-side Polish Victory Lap carrying flags for fallen drivers Alan Kulwicki and Allison.
Damn brother. Never a dull moment at your place. 😂 every man’s dream sitting atop that mountain. Even Cody livin it up. Love it. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for keeping it real with no annoying click baits and fake crap. Always looking forward to the next one.
Could do with a claw to grip the bit you've just cut.........just an idea.Great vid as always, thanks.
uhm, that already exists. its called a harvester with a chainsaw blade and gripper not with a shear.
This is the best idea yet. I can’t think of anything else that these shears would be good for other than demo.
@@clypeum5063 can get them with a shear too for the smaller stuff. Pretty damn efficient they are too, when used for the right job. I say small, I know you can certainly get shears up to 400mm capacity.
@@stevepettifer4896 but why? A Hydraulic chainsaw is really nice for cutting. Only the cutting near Ground where dirt could ruin the saw is an Advantage of the shear. for cutting (also small stuff) a saw would be better.
@@clypeum5063 you'd need to ask the manufacturers and users. I'm simply pointing out they exist. But if o had to guess then Andrews point about simplicity, lack of need to sharpen chains, fewer moving parts so less to go wrong and also cheaper are probably all factors.
That’s really great , making a landing zone for your new helicopter ! The AC way !
Congrats Andrew on getting the TREE SHEAR going and shearing trees. looks great/BEAST. Cody looks like he likes the snow.
It is great that you don't have to deal with the stump and root wad if you cut it at or below grade. This is a great addition to your tool box of attachments. The barber chairing could be bad cutting halfway through the big ones.
Dont see many on the job videos anymore but andrew sure does buy alot of new stuff!

You should try one of those drum mulchers. I have been watching "upstate brush control" and other channels who use such a thing, and they look amazing at eating through the wood and brush :-) They grind up even big trees. Edit ; mean clippers you got there though :-)
Love a bit of Upstate Brush Control! Their drum mulcher is intense, but given how stony and rocky the ground conditions are where Andrew lives and works I'm concerned it would become a perpetual shrapnel machine!
Me too, that attachment is a monster.
Think he has something like that already.
@@TheDJjems True but they got a 100hp plus Skid steer running it. I dont think a 74 hp machine will run a mulcher it that good

Or it means he already has it. haha. He's done that before too.
Noticed this too! But now he says it's Robinson.
I'm pretty sure when he says Helicopter he's meaning his camera drone haha
Edit: Nevermind he means actual Helo, that's nuts
I hope he doesn't try to involve his chainsaw in any helicopter maintenance either
Wow Andrew that’s amazing cuts so well. Exciting.
Andrew in a chopper. " Well that broke for no reason"!
I think thar is a ridiculous waste of cash.
tree felling machines usually have a lot of armor for this reason
@@SteveRivett.
That's true.
A skid stear doesn't tho.
A tree coming down that kicks backwards is the most serious danger using that contraption.
It's why loggers always make sure they have a trip proof escape area behind and beside them as they're making the final cuts.
Personally, I wouldn't trust that thing.
It's good for stuff already on the ground but definitely not for taking down the trees Andrew was.
As a teen I was taught how to log by a pro logger when we were clearing some land for a couple of cabins on my relatives land.

Andrew, have you ever thought about installing a wood fired central boiler to heat your shop and out building? With all your equipment and access to free wood from jobs you preform, I think it might be worth it for you.
Then we would have to watch "showing wood into a burner" videos one after another. Andrew has to get to the next job.

Wow constant uploads love to see it
