  • Alois Diethelm is considered the last tree ladder maker in Switzerland
    Alois Diethelm-Signer from Sattel has been producing tree ladders for fruit crops for 60 years. In 1966, he took over the business for the ladder maker Josef Nussbaumer in Sattel, from whom he learned the trade. He is considered the last of his guild. Together with one employee he used to make up to 300 ladders a year. Today he makes only 40 of them. This is partly due to the change in agriculture. Fruit cultivation has declined and in the past cherries used to grow mostly on high trunk trees. That is why his tree ladders, which can be up to twelve metres, are needed less and lesser.
    To build his ladders Alois Diethelm uses entire poles from young spruce trunks. The rungs are made of hardwood. For the sake of better stability, the ladders are built conically. This conical construction leads to a lower centre of gravity, provides more safety and makes positioning the ladder to the tree easier. Fruit pickers particularly appreciate the unique handiness and durability of his tree ladders.
    In the past, Alois Diethelm built together with an employee at least one ladder a day, and his two sons also helped. Twenty years ago, the demand steadily decreased. Today he does manufactures alone and his wife supports him. Alois Diethelm is retired and still does it because he enjoys it.

" Apprenticeship is the nucleus of craftsmanship " was the logo of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Your craft has been passed on for generations. Please don't let it die. Robots can't replace this. People working and building things with their own hands is what is missing in todays world. It gives us a sense of well being and accomplishment.

      Ein paar km südlich der Fränkischen Schweiz: Hab vor kurzem eine alte Winde (Zahnstange und Kurbel) aus einer ehem. Wagnerei gerettet. Die Enden sind rund gebogen. Erst wußte ich nicht, wofür die Winde verwendet wurde. Dank Internet hab ich aber recht schnell rausgefunden, daß solche Winden zum Leiterbau genommen wurden. In unserer Gegend hatte man neben Obstleitern auch Hopfenleitern. Die haben hinten eine dritte Stange zum Ausklappen - so daß die Leiter alleine stehen kann. Die beiden Stangen, rechts und links der Sprossen, sind stark gebogen, so daß die Leiter unten sehr breit wird um zu verhindern, daß sie zur Seite umfällt. Ich vermute, die Winde war nötig um die Biegung hinzubekommen. Da hätte ein Exzenterhebel, wie im Film gezeigt, nicht gereicht.
      Vielen Dank für den Film! Ich hab mich immer gefragt, wie die Stangen hergestellt wurden. Der Film hat mir die Fragen jetzt beantwortet. Wenn ich mal dazu komme, werde ich mir ein paar fränkische Leitern bauen. Alte Muster sind noch da.

    • @AlainHospenthal
      @AlainHospenthal  Год назад +1

      @@lindareu6137 Das freut mich sehr, dass der Film Sie zum Bau eigener Leitern inspiriert. Das mit der Winde war mir nicht bekannt, macht aber durchaus Sinn zum kontinierlichen Biegen über einen längeren Zeitraum. Herzlichen Dank und freundliche Grüsse.

      @@AlainHospenthal Können Sie mir sagen, warum runde UND eckige Sprossen verwendet werden? Hier in Franken ist das bei Obstleitern auch so. Meine Hopfenleitern haben nur eckige Sprossen.

    • @AlainHospenthal
      @AlainHospenthal  Год назад +1

      @@lindareu6137 Grüezi Frau Reu, es wird im Film kurz erwähnt. Die eckigen Rippen bestimmen insbesondere die Breite, da diese entsprechend zugeschnitten sind. Auch werden diese am Schluss vernagelt. Die Runden Sprossen verfügen zwar auch über einen Absatz, würden aber mit der Zeit tiefer in die Holmen eindringen, bzw. sich ohne die vernagelten Rippen mit der Zeit herausarbeiten. Mit den besten Grüssen aus der Schweiz.

    I'm in the USA, what a awesome video. The man builds the ladder and shows each step how he does it, an I really love to see the old tools he used to build it. Take for example the ladder rung squeezer or setter, what a great idea the person had when they built that tool. Then at the end showing the cherry farmer using the tree ladder the guy built for him that day. I'm 54 now and as a young man I remember using wooden ladders everyday but not built that way, ones I used were heavy because they had steel support bars at each rung. But this video was a real treat for me this morning to get to watch it all. Thank you so much for making this video and sharing it with the world. Now it can be watched anytime by anyone.

Es ist eine Leiter mit 18 Seigeln,, die ich vorallem für das Baumschneiden brauche. Nie würde ich diese Leiter gegen eine Aluleiter tauschen.
