I recently watched the new play of Brokeback in London and it really explores the themes of masculinity on a similar but also different way. The play write focused almost entirely on Ennis and his story. And it really drove home the themes you’re talking about in this video. Idk where you’re living but if you get a chance to go see it in London I’d highly recommend it :)
His wife sounded like she was gonna expose their sexuality to the police so I won't blame him for getting violent. PS: I just remembered they were both already divorced on that scene
this movie gave me such whiplash, i watched it on a whim with some friends and was not expecting half of what happened, the scene of them jumping butt ass naked in the lake is still really funny to me
Masculinity is a personality trait. It's not something that should be an ideal or forced behavior, that's when it becomes problematic and potentially toxic.
Different times within the context of the film. Ennis was a "man's man" who never showed emotion and only did what he was supposed to and fell in love with another man, but how could a "manly man's man" be in love with a man if he himself was a man? So they had to hide it and pretend they weren't. Sad film really, but a good one nonetheless.
Since when we became the judges or dictators of how people should act, talk or behave… As a community we moved fast and we conquered so much. Gay rights. Civil rights. Human rights. As humans we are lost, confused and judgmental. As people, focusing on masculinity or femininity of a man or woman, we haven’t progressed at all. I don’t even want to start on the toxic, violent and sometimes racists behaviors inside our own community…
I’m 71 years old and I fell in love with Jack.
Still makes me cry
🥺
It's hard to watch and control yourself even more when we go through the same situation.
Me too 😭

Watched this in 2006, I’m a straight male and this is a great damn movie overall.
you can see examples of insecure toxic masculinity in these comments lmao
💯
I was openly gay when i first saw this movie, but afterwards i was more comfortable repressing it and lived a life of toxic masculinity in the closet.
I still cry watching its end.
I ugly cry

I wish I'd seen this movie in 2005.
I was only 3 in 2005
i was born in 2005 so would be kind of impossible but glad i watched it in 2022. better late than never
Me too but I liked blues clues more than cowboys, what an idiot I was back then.
When blues clues first came out, I bought a hard plastic squiggly blues clues character straw that I still have. I use for decoration.
Rewatching the movie years later, I've really come to appreciate it

This movie was the beginning to the end of good movies. I don’t want to know about two cowboys getting frisky with each other in the woods. HARD PASS.

A couple of damn fruits.
I have toxic masculinity
no need to convince me
There is no such thing as “toxic masculinity.”
It’s all about bad behavior and it is not limited to men.
