Thank you! The Chevy dealership wanted to charge me $475 to fix this part! I found the reservoir for $40 online and I’m going to install it myself because of this video! Again Thank you!
Just got this car from Carvana & they delivered it with a broken coolant tank. I'm thinking this is a common issue because mine is broken in the exact same place. This isn't the first vid I've seen where it's broken in this place, but it's by far the most helpful! Thank you.
As vehicle repairs go, this has got to be one of the easiest problems to fix that I've ever seen. BUT, without the video, I wouldn't have known that and would've just taken my wife's Spark to the garage. (Where they were going to charge $170 just for the labor and another $70 for the part!) So, thanks SO MUCH for uploading this. Much love!
I'm replacing my tank tomorrow for this exact reason!! Thank you so much for this video! (the little things I'm going to remember, like wear gloves, lol)
AWESOME demonstration. Well done...I have the same exact problem and the garage told me it would cost $109 just to install it, not part included, which I would need to buy. GREAT JOB!
Great video! Reminds of my adventures in Mexico with a rental car. Typically this item is made of HDPE Type 2 plastic (its a waxy flexible plastic- the same as vinegar bottles, milk jugs, ziploc bags, tarps, fenders, toys, etc.). YOU CAN LITERALLY MELT A CRACKED AREA BACK TOGETHER OR IF YOU DON"T HAVE A SOLDERING IRON, JUST REMOVE THE PART AWAY FROM THE ENGINE AND LIGHT A HDPE BOTTLE ON FIRE AND DRIP PLASTIC INTO THE CRACK- toxic gas but won't kill you- don't breathe it. Type 2 plastic has the triangle and 2 inside it- as printed on many plastic items.
WTF. My spark coolant was leaking so I ordered the reservoir and watched this video to see if I could handle it, I am a guy terrified of working on cars and this video rocks, thank you.... Screwed up part is, my tank was broken in that exact damn place. Maybe a flaw, eh? Thanks again.
Girl, thank you. That's probably where mine is leaking. The spills are all over the car parts but never hits the ground. Gonna check it again later today. Thanks again!
Make sure it's the Prestone DEX-COOL coolant. But as long as it says DEX-COOL, it can be any brand of coolant. DEX-COOL is specific for GM vehicles. See her image, it has it on the top of the label.
Despite it seeming like lefty tighty, righty loosey, the bolts are, in fact, right threaded bolts. A ratchet like you used in the video, makes the ratcheting sound as you turn the handle to the left, keeping the socket from moving to the right. It engages as you turn the handle to the right, which moves the socket to the left, loosening the bolt. You use the selector on the back to change the ratchet's direction. It is just how a ratchet works to do its job. To confirm this, if you use your fingers to turn the bolt in the hole, you will notice that you will still have to do righty tighty lefty loosey.
I own a chevy spark 2015, and the cap of the coolant reservoir always gets unattached from each other when i open it and it gets stuck on the opening of the reservoir, any idea why? How can I fix it so it won't get detached each time i open the cap??
So, they're left handed threads? I'm guessing not. It's righty tighty, lefty loosey. GREAT job on the video though. It's nice to see(hear) a woman that can do a little car maintenance.
I'm on my second tank. It's a design flaw for some reason the put chambers I n the tank when the engine revs ( rpm go higher) to much pressure it's basically a pinch point.
One big thing that will spot this if you own a spark is that the heater will stop working. if that happens you lost coolant pressure . 67.00 bucks for the new part. I paid 150.00 got my car back and for the leak at the time i picked it up in the service Isle . I asked them why they did not know there was this issue with the car if the heater quit working . they said they didn't know anything about the coolant tank because they tested all the valves that open the heater not the cooling system pressure . this car suppends the coolant from going into the heater core to keep any from leaking out and blowing a head gasket . I am selling mine ...getting a honda ...bullet proof ! ..mine is gas powered of course .
Your over all knowledge for this job is pretty good. Just your terminology is off. Also there is a step you missed. Since the reservoir is part of the pressurized coolant system. You will need to burp/bleed the air out of the system.
I've learned that the plastic parts on these Chevy are really cheap and fragile. Reading the comments it seem to be true. Watch out for the airflow meter that have a tendency to crack which give false reading too rich mixture and eventually a ruined particel fillter. Airflow meters cost about 50 $. Take the spark plugs out, It is not for checking the plugs, but iron and aluminum eat into each other, Worst case you strip the threads in the engine.

I'm really happy to hear that. I'm very glad that I was able to help you guys. I appreciate your viewing and supporting and encouragement!
Same, I went to firestone and they wanted to charge $600 tf you got me trippin , carports.com is the place
The dealership wanted to charge me 750 to replace this, you are a savior ❤
Thanks, so just pliers, flat screw driver and a 10mm socket, saved me from carrying 40 lbs of tools that are not needed !!
14 year old used your video and replaced his mom’s coolant reservoir today. Thanks

This was super helpful and encouraged me to do my car repair work by myself for the first time! Thank you!

Thank you so much for the video! I was so worried I would have to pay more to take it to the shop! My ‘14 had the same piece break off.
Thank you for the video, I have a 2013 chevy spark and by watching your video I was able to change the reservoir myself and save some money.
It took me forever to find this video.... Thanks for the help, just ordered my tank.
I'm replacing my tank tomorrow for this exact reason!! Thank you so much for this video! (the little things I'm going to remember, like wear gloves, lol)
Thank you for this video! You are saving me $400! Just ordered my tank, I can totally do this!

Omg, thanks so much! Now I'm going out here right now to replace my coolant reservoir for my 2014 Chevy Spark! Mine broke in the very same location!
Girl, thank you. That's probably where mine is leaking. The spills are all over the car parts but never hits the ground. Gonna check it again later today. Thanks again!
Awesome video! Straight to the point and well explained. Thank you for your help!
Thanks for the great video! I am replacing my tank tomorrow and I hope that fixes my leak. You rock!

Rickitha S. D. I have a 14 also . I have the same issue .

Thank you so much!!! Had the same part break on my '14 spark. Loved all your descriptions, you just saved me over $200
Thank you for the videos and loads of helpful tips along the way! I'm about to grab my boy and fix ours :) thanks!
This is very helpful. Mine ia 2013 mode,I am here in Philippines.. Thank you and I hope you are well.
Thank you for doing this tutorial. My sister's car has the exact same problem. Seems to be a design flaw.

Any tips on how you should fill the reservoir avoiding bubbling inside the radiator?
Your awesome girl! Great job. Thanks for sharing. God bless!
How did you get the bottom fastener off i have a 2014 Chevy

Thank you, this video is very helpful my car has the same problem
Thanks! Same thing happened to my 2014 Spark. Did you drain the fluid beforehand?
So, they're left handed threads? I'm guessing not. It's righty tighty, lefty loosey. GREAT job on the video though. It's nice to see(hear) a woman that can do a little car maintenance.
Hi !
Please , can you tell me what symptoms did you had?
It is righty tighty, lefty loosey. It goes by the top of the bolt. Clockwise is right, counter clockwise is left.
I'm on my second tank. It's a design flaw for some reason the put chambers I n the tank when the engine revs ( rpm go higher) to much pressure it's basically a pinch point.
Can you buy the tank at the part store or do you have to order it
Good video, well done 👍
Gonna have to do the same on my own Spark. Same bit. Did it cause coolant to spill and smoke?
Already replaced two in my 2015 about one every 35,000 miles
Yeah mine has 39000 miles and I have to do it also
Did you have to bleed the system
Nice video! Thanks
My 2014 spark did the same thing!!!
Thanks for this!!!!
