No limp mode, no significant reduction in performance. What do I find slightly concerning is that there seems to be more oil in the coolant even though I've not run the car for 24 hours. Most of it's still pink with a small grey head. Plus, there were some very small bubbles in the radiator after running it according to Halfords Autocentre. Do you think this is an oil cooler issue or a head gasket issue? Mechanics/Engineers I've called seem split on the issue.
Figured it was the oil cooler because the sludge matched the motor dipstick. Same thing on mine. The only other thing though is depending on the vehicle it may be a water pump?
the thing is, your test would only be positive if the cylinder was to blow into the waterways, overhead cam engines have a oil passage from the block to the head that is more psi then the cooling system. and when it blows out that way the oil system feeds into the cooling system .
This is very true and a great point to bring up. It is very very rare for oil to leak into coolant through the head gasket unless the car has been overheated and the head is warped. Headgasket is designed to hold back over 200PSI in combustion pressure so unless the car has been overheated it is pretty unlikely to have 30psi of oil breech that seal. But as you have stated not impossible. And if the car was not showing any signs of overheating would probably be on of the last this I would consider.
I have a bunch of goop in the cooling system of my 3.9 Impala. Looks like peanut butter pudding, latte color. car runs fine - no smoke engine seems strong. No sign of water in the oil or transmission. I'm hoping it is the transmission cooler. It's thick and nasty. Very hard to flush any of it out. It overheated and I parked it immediately. Any suggestions for cleaning it out? I have heard that soap for the dishwasher, due to its lack of foam will work to flush the stuff out. I'm thinking that I need to seal the radiator off and pressure test it. It has so much gunk in it though I don't know it that would work.
have the same problem, thick muddy peanut butter type liquid that seperates from the coolant/water. picking it up from mechanic tommorow but came to the conculsion that it must be a leaking oil cooler as the pressure from the oil cooler is higher than the pressure from the cooling system. so new oil cooler and going to drive it around for a week with a stripper in the system then in a week take it in for another flush then refill with coolant
@@FlatRateMechanic i got a similar issue on my VW where engine oil leaked into the coolant via engine oil cooler, do i need to change the waterpump as well since engine oil got into it?
@@FlatRateMechanic Pulled mine yesterday, figured it was a bad oil cooler, replaced it, ran the engine drove the van... haven't yet flushed it, it was not getting more then a few drops after driving for an hour or so. Hey! Thank you for your information.. Let me give you the run down.. 01 4Runner 6 cylinder... Transmission cooler is built into the radiator.. Took my truck to Toyota dealership 3 days ago.. Diagnosis was tranny fluid and coolant had mixed together.. They replaced my radiator with a new one.. Flushed tranny twice.. Paid and drove off the lot and got home to check my coolant reservoir. Mud milkshake!!!!!! Returned to dealership very upset.. WHile driving back tranny was shifting hard. Almost slipping a few times.. No overheating from what I can tell on gauges. Being that they replaced radiator, flushed tranny and told me all was well I trusted it was fixed.. Obviously not. Can you advise me on what to do or to be aware of at this point???? Thank you sir..
Well unfortunately once coolant contaminants transmission there is a high probability that they'll be permanent damage caused to the transmission. Flushing it out several times is your best bet In hope that it will save it. It's really all you can do. And as for the sludge in the overflow tank chances are it was probably just residual. It's really hard to get all that stuff out of the system once it's in there. I have successfully flushed transmissions in the past but we also make sure the customer is fully aware that it could possibly not help at all. Best of luck.
The Flat Rate Mechanic Thank you sir for replying.... Let me ask you this.. After many RUclips videos and research I had learned when coolant and tranny fluid mix together due to a bad intercooler one is supposed to flush the engine as well because the coolant runs through the thermostat and such also. Causing that fluid to be present in other parts of the engine. I know they didn’t do and engine flush. They also didn’t replace transmission fluid filter.
Hey....I've got a Bora 1.6 and having a problem with the transmission oil mixing with the coolant...the video is helpful..but am wondering if their would be any water in the transmission... how do I go about solving this problem..the previous owner of the vehicle had it parked down for some time......
Hey buddy great video I did something stupid I put about a quart of oil in my overflow antifreeze overflow and when I realized it I quickly took the Overflow container off poured it out and now flush the system like 3 times but the weird thing is is the car won't start ever since I put the oil in the Overflow container and realized it right away I didn't start the car so it never ran through the system all the way and it just won't start at it since I flushed it out three times I've tried starting it and it just keeps turning over and over and over and I was wondering if it is that quincentennial or is that just weird timing that maybe something else broke too thanks a lot buddy and it's on a Cavalier 02 Chevy Cavalier
I'm sorry... That's the difference between guessing and testing... You did it 💪 yes, but..... What was bad??? I've had many times it will only leak when it comes up to temp. YT Tech's will never know....

He said someone told him the water pump or the transmission cooler was leaking, When i checked it out it was a big hole in a water hose that come straight up from his water pump to around his intake about 6 inches long.. well I took that off but I noticed the water was oil pink really bad, and so is the inside of the radiator... It looks like his transmission lines is running to a separate transmission cooler that is not part of the radiator that someone installed before he even purchased the truck.... its not leaking... would that cooler still cause fluid to back up really bad into his radiator even if it is not leaking the transmission cooler is not leaking?

Hi, I am not sure if I have a blown head Gasket or not and whether to use a head gasket Sealer. You FIXED it,probably; It ALWAYS re-appears,when the engine gets HOT; HOT water "dissolves" that black grime well; that is how i clean radiators, hoses, reservoir, etc in my shop; keep checking your oil LIKE A HAWK!!!! make sure it is not going down; oil floats,so "grab"it with tissue paper through the reservoir opening; takes hours; you *absolutely* needed to remove the reservoir and "hot water" it(i sometimes use gasoline too,if it's handy).

Wesley Edwards lower intake gaskets very common on that motor
have the same problem, thick muddy peanut butter type liquid that seperates from the coolant/water. picking it up from mechanic tommorow but came to the conculsion that it must be a leaking oil cooler as the pressure from the oil cooler is higher than the pressure from the cooling system. so new oil cooler and going to drive it around for a week with a stripper in the system then in a week take it in for another flush then refill with coolant
@@noneofurbiz7459 Out of curiosity, did the replacement cooler fix your issue?
Great video. Was it the oil cooler in end?
Yes, it was.
@@FlatRateMechanic i got a similar issue on my VW where engine oil leaked into the coolant via engine oil cooler, do i need to change the waterpump as well since engine oil got into it?
Very good video with outstanding camera views.
What was the issue at the end? You left us without an answer to the case.. it is like a tv series 😁😂💪🏾
This one did have a bad oil cooler.
@@FlatRateMechanic Pulled mine yesterday, figured it was a bad oil cooler, replaced it, ran the engine drove the van... haven't yet flushed it, it was not getting more then a few drops after driving for an hour or so. I will flush it this week, The point I want top make was I tested my old oil cooler, compressed air as well.. it did not show any signs of leaking .. BUT as you mentioned, it may have been leaking only after the engine reached operating temp. Thus is there a way to test the oil cooler.... at temp off the car ? I haven't yet come up with a way to do that !@!!!
Actually it's the other way round coolant is done like that to warm the oil up faster on cold days then keep it cool when running but mostly it's to get the oil up to temprature faster
I stopped repairing German cars because something else always breaks and the customer is then dissatisfied with you and not with his car.
These (all German) vehicles are built to break down after 4 years (normal leasing period).
Hello sir, i have changed twice the oil cooler on my 2002 passat, twice we clean all the hoses but still my coolant reservoir its still full of oil
Head gasket?

it means the transmission cooler is working. so the mean cause of oil mix to the coolant is head gasket replacement
They should have done both those things. Yes.
I found oil in the coolant, I think its because the engine oil is always getting low, Although there's no overheating.
How do you clean the oil inside the whole hoses and radiator? I coolant flush ? But what liquid is best to get everything out ?
Fors recomends flushing with a degreaser like simple green.
Did this in fact end up being the oil cooler?
Do they make test kits to tell if its oil vs transmission fluid?

I don't no if your still on this channel are not but if so got a question for you , My friend had me come to his house today to look at his 2002 Ford Ranger Edge 4.0..

Basically I have oil deposits in my coolant tank, oil has leaked into my coolant resovoir and and a layer of around 2-3mm builds up and sits on top of the coolant. My car is a Peugeot 207 1.4 Petrol 2011 model with manual gearbox. I have been driving it fine for nearly 3 years with this issue and have done approximately 12000 miles since I first noticed this. When I take into into the garage they seem to think it is a blown head gasket. There is also a small oil leak on the cylinder head on the left hand corner.

How many times did you flush the system, and did you take any additional components off when you flushed (thermostat, waterpump, radiator)
Good question coz 1 fuel trim premiter is on the thermostate sensor , if its caked in oil the engine may run rich as it gets inaccurate reading on coolant temp

But I see milky on the oil cap
My question is what causes that because I don't know if it is head gasket blown or wht
Foe, the cause might be that you drive on short distances. If your oil and coolant doesnt warm up enough it might cause the cap to be muddy. Try flooring it around the city to warm up the engine to the right temperature then drive on a higher rpm for a bit and see if it fixed the issue shorty
I have some gunk in my coolant resevior but it's more of a whiteish lighter brown color but it doesn't seem like it really mixed with the coolant.. sort of just floating on top of the coolant.

Could possibly just be residual circulating through the system.Sometimes it can be very tough to get all the oil removed and can appear sludgy several flushes afterwards I would recommend using a marine bilge pump cleaner to flush system.
