Ingrid is a symbol of the beginning of the end of the Vikings. This was their last war and their downfall is underway. Ivar knew that his illness was progressing and he wanted to die on the battlefield. He created his own destiny, like Ragnar. In the end, each of Ragnar's sons represented a part of him. Ube was a explorer, Ivar intelligence and warfare strategies, Bjorn was the true leader of his people and Hvitserk portrayed that eternal struggle over faith.

The Vikings kept pretty strong for a century and a half after this, it’s why we’re getting a spin off. Based on what we’ve seen so far, Ingrid will be invaded, dethroned or killed within a few weeks. If Ragnar and Lagertha weren’t scary enough to ward off ambitious invaders as soon as they saw Kattegat in a weaker position, Ingrid sure as hell won’t scare anyone away.

Ivar being afraid was poetic and heartbreaking seeing him cry and the fact that the “i love you brother” was improvised 💔😭 right in the feels. I got chills when floki felt that ivar died. It was such an amazing and emotional finale and everything has led up to it. To begin with, I personally loved Ivar’s death. Many leaders are killed by nobodies, and unlike Ragnar, Bjorn and Lagertha who were the main protagonists of the show and went out heroically, Ivar died in battle accepting his fate. I feel like Alfred killing him wouldn’t of changed much. Ivar’s condition was getting the better of him, and he was going to die eventually. I’m just glad he went in to save Hvitserk, died in battle and then died in Hvitserk’s arms saying he was afraid. I would’ve liked to see Ragnar but Ivar and Hvitserk’s relationship has always been an up and down one, at the end, they told each other they loved one another which in essence is all Ivar wanted in his life, to be loved. Shoutout to Alex, what a performance by him from beginning to end.
With regards to Hvitserk, as you guys said, he was lost. Historically, Hvitserk took the role of Guthrum. After the battle of Edington which this battle was meant to represent, Guthrum was baptised and converted to Christianity. Like Hvitserk, Alfred had made him a Saxon Prince of East Anglia and renamed him to Æthelstan so this is where they were going with that. It wasn’t just calling him Æthelstan out of nowhere, and whilst this show is not wholly accurate, they kind of ended it with something that happened historically albeit it being Hvitserk who was given the role. Fits perfectly with his character too.
Steven, as you said, Kattegat was an iconic place with amazing characters but Gunnhild put it perfectly, “the golden age of the Vikings is over”. It was ruled by a slave who made her way to the top, and signified how unimportant people are concerned with the dealings in Kattegat compared to the major characters of the past. It’s of little importance, I feel like that’s exactly what the show was going for. It’s the end, Christianity will slowly take over etc.
Ubbe and Floki, just glad they got a happy ending which is what they deserved. Love both characters, and the whole Native America storyline was so well written. Fuck Naad who nearly fucked it up hahaha. I think the contrast in Ivar and Ubbe is so clear. Ivar stuck to the old ways, wanted to die in battle and got his wish whilst Ubbe was forward thinking and embraced that he had to change in order to survive. The parallels are great, even with Hvitserk. He didn’t stick to the old ways and was baptised, ultimately he adapted to the new ways and survived. That last scene with Ubbe and Floki was amazing too!
Big shout out to you guys, what a journey it has been. I’m just glad the show ended well and satisfyingly, that’s all that I wanted and that’s what we got. Shout out to all the cast, crew, extras etc, the cast especially because the acting on this show is some of the best I’ve seen, what performances by everyone. Again, thank you guys for all of this and it’s just been a hell of a journey!

In this battle, it was one army clashing on another. According to what we had going in, Alfred had a big portion of his forces killed, no way to get reinforcements, and was on the back foot. Ivar on the other hand lets us know that not only do they have a bigger army, they’re also reinforced by the Danes surrounding the English kingdoms. And he’s basically winning the battle, until he’s somehow not, and gets out there to die for no reason. See what I’m saying? It makes no sense he couldn’t wait a couple of days.

I cried so much when I first saw this episode. Hvitserk went in and tired himself, and Ivar's bones were cracking, and they kept showing flashbacks and Ivar went in to save Hvitserk, and when Ivar got stabbed and looked at Hvitserk and just collapsed and it was so much and he was crying and died in Hvitserk's arms... it was a tsunami of emotions and I never liked the character that much and balling my eyes out for hours. His illness was getting worse, and he knew that his illness was going to be the end of him, so instead of dying in a bed like some old drooling man, he chose to die in a battle, like a true Viking. I mean, after he was stabbed, his arms gave out so he couldn't support himself any longer and his legs literally snapped in half. It was such a poetic death. He claimed to be a god and no hero could kill him. Then a scared foot soldier got right up to him. And Ivar accepted it. And Ivar wasn’t afraid of death, he was afraid of being forgotten. Of the gods forgetting who he was. That’s why his bother was telling him he would be remembered forever, because he knew that’s what he was afraid of. And in the end he got everything he wanted in his life: reputation, child and love (from his brother, Igor and perhaps even Katia)

  • @benyol5273

All of Ragnar's sons had one trait of his by the end
Ivar: The warrior side of Ragnar
Ubbe: The farmer side of Ragnar
Bjorn: The hero side of Ragnar
Hvitserk: The Christian side of Ragnar
Sigurd: The dead side of Ragnar...

    • @antoniochasten3192
      @antoniochasten3192 3 года назад +3

I'd say Ivar had Ragnar's eye for strategy. Ubbe and Bjorn both had Ragnar's heart for exploration and wanted to continue his dream while Ubbe had more of the farming side and Bjorn had Ragnar's women problems. Hvisterk had Ragnar's addiction problem and Sigurd was never really around long enough to show any of his father's traits.

Ivar dying on the battlefield , in his brother's arms , was absolutely perfect . Especially with everything that they've gone through together .
And personally I prefer that he was taken out by some random because that felt more realistic in those type of situations . It's usually the unexpected . The unplanned . Plus , the way that he gave him permission to finish him . To me it felt like he knew that he was dying regardless of the outcome . But , he chose how he wanted to go . And him admitting that he was fearful of death in the end felt so human . That's why it fit perfectly . Athough he had lived this larger than life existence , in the end he was coming face to face with his own mortality and his brother was right there with him .
    It really was beautiful .....
    Floki's return ❤
Sorry for the rant lol .

'' Ivar dying on the battlefield, in his brother's arms '' ! This is certainly better , makes a better story in the Vikings TV show , lots of drama and emotions.--------- surely better than the real historic Ivarr Ragnarsson dying of a violent fever and infection, in his bed, in Dublin Eire, around the year 873 !

I am very happy they ended this with Ivar showing his inner fear (holy eff I balled during that entire battle/death scene), Hvitserk accepting a new faith and Ubbe and Floki considering what the future possibilities could be. It did a good job showing how the Viking way was slowly dying and their beliefs were changing. I love how Alfred didn’t kill Ivar. Makes it much more realistic. It’s really bittersweet that it’s over but there really was no more to tell and it ended perfectly imo. And MAJOR kudos to the actor playing Alfred. AMAZING JOB

Man I'm just now finishing the show and the Vikings are a VERY important part of the world man, I mean from Bjorn ironsides remarkable last stand the way he ate those arrows and raised his sword in front of the Rus in glory and triumph was cold chilling man I mean the kids women everyone showed up, ivar and Hviserk brotherly love and bond no matter how wrong ivar was at times he still did what all true siblings should do and stayed with him thru war peace and hard times, from pulling ivar on his little wagon to riding on his Viking style chariot to holding him in his arms during his last breathes was REMARKABLE, he didn't know it but he loved ivar deeply the most he felt he needed to protect him and he did ND ivar was fiercely protective of him too the show was ahead of it's true nature and meaning man great content guys love it , oh and we can't forget everything Ragnar, floki, and every the trader Rollo achieved together in the end came to a head and made sense, and notice how everything Ragnar done each of his sons done something if not more of as well, number 1 when Ragnar challenged the first Jarl and won noticed the only other time that happened was when Ubbe challenged the Danish Viking king to single combat, Bjorn had the heart of a bear I would say lion but Bjorn is bear so I'll go with that but even more heart because he ended up facing a difficult task than that of Ragnar at the time in his own way and that was getting EVERYONE not just Norway but all of Scandinavian kingdoms to come together and that is truly a king, I'ma Christian but man I'll tell you the way they fought for what they believed in was beautiful if you have a warriors heart then you know what I'm saying. Again loved the reaction even tho I'm years late lol but idk who my favorite is man, oh also the bishop was also a very tremendous character he's kinda like the Morgan from walking dead of the show

Same... I was kinda expecting a young Ragnar to show up. Like he's standing over Hvitserk looking down at Ivar but the camera isn't on his face. More at his back over his shoulders to show he's only looking down at his sons(mostly Ivar). If they would've done this, it should've had another camera angle from Ivar's point of view looking up at his father. It doesn't show Ragnar's face but Ivar can tell that it's him then he dies with a little smile on his face. Plus there should've been a scene where Odin personally visits Ubbe(getting his attention) like when he's out in the woods hunting or something and places one of Ivar's hooks onto a stone or tree stump letting him know that his brother has been killed. I also think that Hvitserk should've gone to find Ubbe so he can finally be with his brother once and for all. Hell, maybe he could've found peace in the new land...

Your affection for each other and the show shine through in every video and I'm looking forward to watching even more of your reactions!
If you take recommendations, I'd highly recommend The Last Kingdom. It's set in roughly the same era and you get to see some characters your already familiar with from Vikings; Alfred and Aelswith, Athelred and some guy who may or may not be our Ubba (probably not lol). While Vikings is told primarily from the Norwegian pov, The Last Kingdom is slightly more interested in the Saxon/Wessex perspective and how they're dealing with the Dane invasion. It has that mix of battles and politics but also really emotional, intimate and personal relationships between characters that Vikings has, not to mention a killer sense of humour. They are two entirely different shows but set within the same universe and I think any fan of one would adore the other.
It's a bit too obvious that I adore the show so I'll stop now but just thought I'd let you know in case you are interested in trying it out. Love you guys, I hope you keep doing what you do and having fun doing it!

Vikings is hands down one of the beste Television Series ever.
I think this Finale, despite being way different than the old Seasons, when Ragnar was still around, did an exellent job.
Every Character Sendoff this Season was great. Björn dying as the Badass that he was, Ubbe finding Floki (just like in S4) and living in a New Land, basically Ragnars Dream, starting all over again.
Ivar dying known as one of the greatest Vikings ever, not giving Alfred the opportunity to gain the Fame of Killing him, instead being killed by a Nobody.
Hvisterk having nobody else and starting all over aswell.
Haralds Death was just perfect. The man who always wanted to be King of all Norway and lost so much becoming that realising this whole thing was a mistake, missing his brother, dying alone in the Woods, but still being fine with that because he and his brother could Sing a last time before reuniting in Valhalla.
    Lagertha Sendoff was great aswell.
I just think there are 3 missed oportunities:
    1. Rollo. The real Rollo went full berserk mode right before he died of old age and slayed everyone around him, gaining is Place in Valhalla again. Would have loved to see this.
2: None of the Sons of Ragnar knowing Alfred was Athelstans Son. Would have loved to ser someone talk about that.
    3: Ragnar Cameo.
If it just was Ragnar staning next to Ubbe and Floki, when Floki said he disturbes his mind etc.
Nonetheless: The Whole Series is just so well done. 10/10.
Loved every single moment of it!

The guy was a monster he was in meadle of the battle with all those fractures, his bones started breaking days before, he knew he had to die, or live some miserable last few days dying in bed. I love also that in the end he was just a boy, hurt, in pain, and scared of facing the gods and his ancestors and their judment. Looking foward for the wrap up of the season please let us know.

The series ended the same way the series began. Floki now truly understands what Ragnar's views were on the need to explore and escape to other parts of the world and to get away from the life as they know it and to question everything including their faith and to realise that they themselves are miniscule compared to what the world beholds. Floki is now passing on that same wisdom to Ubbe. Also, Ubbe has been doing his best to hold onto tradition whilst also moving forward with an open-mind and this has resulted in him also questioning his faith. In the blood-eagle scene, he sparred his life only because he in that moment began to believe that 'the Gods' are not there watching and they may not even exist at all, and if they don't exist then so be it, he is at peace with it. Floki confirmed to him not to worry about the past or the Gods, whether they exist or not matters not and it was never about proving the Gods existence to others but instead it was being comfortable in ones self to be able to freely question and debate the topic and being able to live without the Gods. The show is a spiritual journey to enlightenment.

Although, it wasn’t between Ivar and Alfred if it was between Alfred and a Viking called Guthrum , it was called the battle of Eddington. At the very end Guthrum surrendered and Alfred had him baptized and change his name to Aethelstan.

If you can find my comment, I sort of explain the difference between the two. Long story short, It's different stories but in roughly the same time and place (England though, never Norway)

@Felipe Cordeiro- started watching it two weeks ago after this show ended and it’s really really good. Similar time period but very different with great characters, battles, writing and has characters you can really care about.

You'd both probably really enjoy barbarians (2020). It's a Netflix show as well. I gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised. It was really well plotted and shot. Wonderful flow to the story. It's just one season at the moment but it did well I think. Anyway, have a good one you two. Vikings! End of an era.

The goddess Idun made Hvitzerk immortal when he went to bjorns tomb, i like to think that Othere is actually Hvitzerk since there's a lot of similarities

I wonder if people named their children after the people in the show? The popularity of the name Ragnar... There were 41 kids named Ragnar in 2016, 56 in 2017, and 71 kids in 2018. Between 1980 and 2019, there have only been 9 babies named Lagertha. There have only been 5 Flokis between 2000 and 2018.

In the state that Ivar was in, the fight between him and Alfred would have been highly anti-climactic. I personally think the reaction of Alfred was more powerful than it would have been had he fought him. The respect he showed to stop the battle was immense, and I don't think you could pull that off if he had fought him himself.

My only nitpick is that they didn't find some way to bring Rollo back in to the story. Even for a cameo. I know it would've been difficult. But even a reference would've been nice.

Meh, we all know who he is though lol.
Probably one of the most famous Vikings.. he is the great great great grandfather of William the conqueror.
So in a way, the Vikings destroyed the saxons 🤣
