Hi Angela, very nice work. I'd like to pass on some of my experience with Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst Sprays and their Moon Shadows Sprays, etc . I've been using them in my mixed media projects for about 4 years, and love them...however, I learned a few things the hard way and hope this helps you and others. Those beautiful, mica, iridescent colors are utterly destroyed by using ANY MATTE PRODUCT in conjunction with them. A gloss medium is a must if you want to retain those beautiful aspects. Gesso also contains an ingredient that diminishes the beauty - ALL matte products have this ingredient and will diminish any type of mica or iridescent medium used with it. Regular Mod Podge does this as well as gesso or any matte paints. Also, I learned thru time that it causes the Lindys to fade away. The best I can recommend is that Lindys be used with gloss medium or gloss varnish and non matte paints, and then sealed with a gloss medium. It will maintain the integrity of your work.
Hi I know this is an old video but I always use a fixative on each layer (spray usually Krylon matte) so I can keep working then when I come to the last layer I use my mica and any other "sparkly" sprays etc and seal with gloss uv protectant/sealer/varnish
Thank you for this tutorial, I have never attempted mixed media before. This technique has inspired me to do something like this for a monochrome project I am doing for a friend as I just cant seem to get going as I like colour!! TFS Jackie
Angela, Thanks for your creativity and bringing it to life (it was well worth the time to watch) and'a thanks for clearing up the Lindy's thing! I bet'cha I must'a backed up three time at each spot her product was mentioned either; 1.) I was straining my ears and concentrating on nothing but your voice ♫♪♫... and each time it just flu off your tongue and right outta the mouth ( I figured it must'a been sheer excitement over the product) OR 2.) It was blasted out by the noise of the heat gun! I was going to check below for notes on the products used in your video and then my next step was to make a remark "accordingly". But then on the way to the notes; I saw that Ann S. beat me to the "accordingly" remark (BTW thanks Ann!) & then I saw your reply! LOL :) ~ Thanks again for a great video and sharing your great finds!...
I have used the crackle technique before and it works just as well with cheap pva glue and household emulsion paint too, the pva needs to be 'just' dry for it to work, the crackle goes in the direction of the brush strokes. Very cost effective for large projects such as furniture. I paint designs with acrylic paint over this crackle and it looks great.
I don't really have any pictures of my crafting as I lost all my data (well it is still on a hard drive awaiting recovery) but some of my very amateur painting can be seen on my facebook page! facebook.com/karenmarieuk/media_set?set=a.2016074248573.2104244.1445354054&type=3
Karen Marie awesome!! Girl you have some talent!!! I wished I could paint like that!!! I sent you a friend request too!!! Thanks for sharing with me!!!
Not so much talent as an awesome 'cheat' courtesy of Sheena Douglas, google her work. Not sure if her stuff is available on that side of the pond but makes an artist out of anyone :D FYI it was Sheena that first brought the pva crackle technique to my attention via a tutorial
Hi Angela, This background reminds me of those used by some of the great portrait masters. Thanks for helping me notice what might be BEHIND the artist's model. I can see myself using your layering technique as a platform for a mixed media piece or maybe even an entire room in my home! Any tips on how this might be done? I am imaging latex paint in similar tones with the addition of lots of Floetrol, sweeps of drywall mud, and perhaps the use of an Electrolux vacuum with the hose attached to the exhaust to blow the paint around the wall. Wouldn't this be fun to try with NEW construction before the floors, cabinetry, tile, and trim work are installed? Wow!
I KNOW THIS VIDEO WASMADE FEW YRS AGO BUT CAN YOU TELL ME THE PRODUCT YOU USED THAT HAD SUCH GREAT SHINE??I DIDNT CATCH WHAT YOU SAID..AEESOME PROJECT SAID. .
Hi Angela. I like your tutorial and bought some of the colors from Lindsy's but they came as powders and I don't know what to do as a powder form. Can I put a medium with them? What did you use in this video? Thank you.
I was wondering what size canvas are you using here. Love your work and I saw the video with you asking questions to your husband about what you do. It was so so so funny. Tell him from me that your the queen of Shabby Chic and one of the top artists on youtub....
Overall, thank you and you are awesome! I subscribed. A few suggestions: some sort of something to put up around your work space between canvas and lamp so there is not so much glare on glossy works would be cool. Was wishing I could see it better throughout the video....also, maybe speed it up more or skip over the steps where you have to repeat the same movement (i.e. painting it black, heating)...also, some labels and words on the screen would make it perfect. Although I'm giving you all these suggestions, I come from a place of being too chicken to make my own tutorials, so I appreciate them in any way I can get em! Again, thank you so much!
Hello. I'm french and i don't understand want you say about paint you use... Acrylic or Oil ? Individuals in one you use with the spray at 4:00. Thinx for help me and sorry for my english :)
ola lindo lindo o seu trabalho qual a tinta que você usa primeiro essa negra, e as outras quais são, ficarei muito agradecida se me responder um abraço
Angela Holt Designs. curious... has this work held up well with the products you used, or do you think it's better to do same technique with different products? I have to wonder if the changes that come with time or necessarily a bad thing....??? lol
~!Plz ANGELA.honney..make a sunflower ..vintagee..i see all your videos and i dont see. anythink the ;sunflowers'.. i have a project the sunflowers and no have idea. how make one...i see the another persons.. but i like yourrs ideass.. can u help meee...?. help me plzzz... plz plzzz
oh this is such a bummer! The sound on your camera is really static sounding and if I turn it down where it doesn't sound like it's going to blow my speakers, I can't hear you! :(
Angela Holt :) I don't know if it helps but I didn't hear it with the heat gun just when you are talking and when I made sure it wasn't my computer my roommate said he thought it was probably the mic and the fact I wasn't watching on an iPhone I can really hear it distort. Hope that helps cuz I really like your "badass" style! lol and don't want to miss out!
SassyNpinkable Ohhh no it is not your computer at all. When I speed up the video in certain parts I cut the volume down so you don't hear all the noise. It comes across blasting over your computer and I have got lots of complaints about it so i record with no volume in those sections. So all is good on your end!!!
Though I'm sure this is going to be a very informative video, I would like to let you know that it can be very difficult at times to listen to because of the sound quality of the video. There's quite a bit of crackling in the video and the mic seems like it's too "hot".
that was wonderful - but could you please spell the name of your Spray Paint Product that you used........I so want to do this project too......thank you so much

Can I share these tips in an upcoming video?
Rhonnie Day I realize this is an older video....but can you tell us what products you would use in place of the those used here. I love this Angela!

Thankyou for making this tutorial showing how to make a background using the sprays and also the crackling technique

Beautiful Angela! I absolutely adore you and LOVE your craftiness!
Just beautiful Angela!!! Thanks for showing us how!!

Beautiful! Could you have stopped at that "galactic" stage and then used the crackle technique? Or, would it not have had any depth?

Hi, Angela, love your work!
I just wondering what kind of glue you use? I cannot hear very clearly in the video, thanks!
Great tips, amazing background!!
Remember, gesso has rubber agents in it to make it flexible - it will not crackle like an acrylic paint will - so use acrylic paints over your glue
Thanks so much I can't wait to try this out!
LOVE your videos. Thanks for sharing! :)

+Angela H Designs/ Lifestyle Thinks ;)
Thank you for your great ideas...
Fern Wright You are do very welcome!!
What was the name of that spray stuff y were using, and what is it an ink or paint.
This is awesome!!!!
Beautiful !
I've always been told that gesso goes ONLY beneath painted surfaces - white paint is best for over paint
ola lindo lindo o seu trabalho qual a tinta que você usa primeiro essa negra, e as outras quais são, ficarei muito agradecida se me responder um abraço
Beautiful!!
Thank you sweets so much!!!
what was the name of the spray paint u use? and also sealers u use? thanks love your stuff.
Cathy Courtney The sprays are called Lindys Stamp Gang and the sealer I use in just plain Mod Podge. Thanks for being a fan!

Fabulous!
Hermoso todo esto, vivo en colombia, como adquiero materiales, gracias
what are the sprays called ?
Does the starting paint have to be gloss or is matte okay?
StudioMallory Nope!!! But I would prefer matt so that the shimmers will pop
I've seen a vintage background much more simple than yours... no too much painted. Do you know about another vintage background style? Thanks.
Wonky or not, the girl has talent.
What is the name of the paint you are using my micro phone is not very good..
+Christina DeLorenzi it is called Lindys stamp gang sprays

you should use gloss mefium so not to distroy the mica in lindys . all the gesso does is take it off.
Dankeschön, aber der Ton und die Bildqualität sind leider nicht so gut :-(
Freundliche Grüße
did you say lady stamp gain ? the name of the sprays
Lindys Stamp Gang Sprays
wwwwwwww
Lindys stamp gang
Zašto koristis fen i to stalno?
There's gotta be a whole lot less expensive clear adhesive than that one you are using.
Its good but i thought just brushing and spreading some coffee on blank canvas would be good.
looks like a Turner
oh this is such a bummer! The sound on your camera is really static sounding and if I turn it down where it doesn't sound like it's going to blow my speakers, I can't hear you! :(
I'm sorry!!!! I was trying to blend out the sound of the heat gun and talk over it. I will improve on the sound!! Thanks
Angela Holt :) I don't know if it helps but I didn't hear it with the heat gun just when you are talking and when I made sure it wasn't my computer my roommate said he thought it was probably the mic and the fact I wasn't watching on an iPhone I can really hear it distort.
