Please describe about Great Maurya Emperor Samprati . His life story is described in Jain scripture like 'Sampratikatha', 'Parishistaparva', and 'Prabhavakcharita'.Though the Jain traditions mention that the rule of Emperor Samprati lasted for 53 years. His administrative decisions were very inspired by a Jain monk "Suhastin"

It is interesting that whenever india comes under the control of powerful centralizing military dynasties, viz. the mauryas, guptas, marathas, which is a cornerstone of the formation of nationhood, they seem to get ousted / usurped by dynasties of priestly origins viz, shungas, vakatakas, peshwas.

There is not a single Purana that tells exactly when or which date the Mauryan empire ended - what is the evidence taken from which Purana? according to various Puranas, 12 Maurya kings ruled for 316 years & the last king of the Maurya dynasty was Brhadratha. The Puranas record that Brhadratha ruled for 93 years, which indicates that (1) he did not have capable successors or (2) he was clinging to power way past his prime. He was uprooted by his own senapati, Pushyamitra Shunga, who started the Shunga dynasty. The Matsya Puran records that 10 kings of the Shunga dynasty ruled for a total of 300 years
Note that Chanakya uprooted the Nanda-vansh to establish the Maurya dynasty, so this phenomenon is not such a rare occurrence. Maha-Padma-Nanda founded the Nanda dynasty, which ruled Magadha for a total of 100 years (out of which Maha-Padma-Nanda himself ruled for 88 years).

This could signify Ashoka had achieved a hegemony and there were no wars. Just like Pax Romana, Pax Brittania, a state of Pax Ashoka arose. There were no longer wars and people were free to practice religions.

Even when the mauryan dynasty was no longer in charge the city of Pataliputra itself remained as the capital of northern India till the end of the Guptas… isn’t that so?
And the guptas themselves must have admired the mauryans to name one (or was it two) of their kings “Chandra Gupta”

Matsya, Vayu, and other Purans are not as old as general public thought, and Mahabharata and Ramayana as well. I don't think Buddhism made the Mourya empire weak. Instead, it was because of Buddhism Ashoka and the Maurya Empire's fame spread across the world. it could be infighting among jealousness. which gave pushyamitra shung who was a trusted senapati to betray mourya Empire. it reminds me of the story of Chachnama.
