I just watched it! I loved it so so so much. 10/10. The music, the music, the acting and most importantly the STORY. There's a lot of realism in the story but not everything is tragic and mellow. I love how it ended with a happy one. This movie deserves more recognition!
I rarely ever leave a comment on a RUclips video, in fact I can't remember when the last time I did so. However, maybe like some of you, the reviews left in the comment section of movie trailers, I value quite a lot. This movie is brilliant. It's moving, suspenseful, dramatic and allows you to consider many of the important themes throughout. I will say however, it does need a trigger warning for sexual assault/rape so please be mindful.
I so loved this film, I cried at the end. Perfect historically, perfect visually. Love and loss then love again. Here's to all the lassies from the Hebrides who went to NY and did so well
And the Oscar goes to, The Road Dance! 💯% Loved it from beginning to end. I was blown away by the climax, I was like, 'Wait. whaaat??😳 The acting was the best I've seen in ages, especially for a true life story. Definitely recommended 10/10🎯
"Remember that war your grand-dad told you his dad was in? Well this is a story about the war his dad was in. That's when Britain was somethin' special."
I watched the film yesterday and I'm probably going to spend today thinking about the film. That's the highest compliment I can give a film. For anyone who has read the above comment - yes the film is set in 1916, but it centres around a young woman being raped, it's not a nationalistic jingo fest.
When the trailer started with Eilean Leòdhais in 1916, I thought this was going to be about the Iolaire. I was wrong. Maybe someday there will be a film about that.
You don't fail as an extra! Tgey just didn't need any more people or not your gender/age. I have been an extra it's just good timing. My parents used to be hired all the time, me just once 😅😅😅
Looks beautifully filmed. However, being set in Lewis the accents are a bit disappointing, and pretty sure they wouldn’t have been speaking English to one another. I hope in the film there is some Gaelic to be heard!
I just feel if there is going to be a film made set in the Highlands and Islands, which really doesn’t happen often. The film should be authentic, and show the real way of life etc. In these parts. This would have been a great opportunity to promote Gaelic and use highland/island actors etc…
@Hazel Allison I understand it is hard for studios and hard to compete, but there is no comparison between this type of film and big block buster superhero films. They are totally different and most likely attract a different audience. I guess this may well be targeted at an American audience for example, who won't pick up on accents etc. I just believe, as I said, that it would have been great to promote the real Highland/Island culture and way of life, using authentic accents etc. I'm happy to see a film based in Lewis being produced don't get me wrong, and I will go to see it. I am not intentionally being negative, I just believe with the fragility of the Gaelic language and culture, this is a missed opportunity. I wish the film all the best :)
@@jenc1090 totally agree! Tha mi ag aontachadh leat gu mor. Gaelic is still a community language on Leodhas, you hear it on the bus, in the shops- it's still many people's first language. The entire production would have had more than enough resources to incorporate the language into the film, at least a bit - of isand-based actors (most of whom have at least a bit of Gaelic), language coaches- it could have been a game-changer in altering people's perception to learn about the starkly different culture that is Leodhas, both in 1916 and today- within the production team, and amongst the wider audience watching it- that English was not always spoken everywhere in Scotland, and that it wasn't, and shouldn't necessarily be, the standard all the time. Deagh cheol- good music, and nice that it was filmed at an Gearranean (duilich, tha fios' am gu bheil 'n' a dhith am badeigin ann a sin! :P )
Tha mi làn chinnteach gur e fiolm math a th' ann agus gum faic cuid àilleachd an eilein agus a leithid - ach mar is trice 's ann a bhithear a' dèanamh a leithid le luchd-cleasachd Albannach nach eil buinteanas aca ris a' Ghàidhealtachd. Cothrom caillte?
@@cdb88 I'm guessing Scottish Gaelic (?). /I wanted to reply that 'best actor for the role' - as envisioned by the Director - usually gives the strongest outcome in a film. Everything from how an actor moves, how they act in a close-up, their look and colouring etc. Sometimes the Casting Director will try to build an onscreen 'family' who look like they fit together.
Coming soon be ready. I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word (Jesus) and believes Him who sent Me (God) has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. John 5:24 Jesus died for you, all you have to do is believe & repent.
Films that contain rape are exceptionally traumatizing to the viewer whether you believe that or not. Awards go to the films that traumatize the audience.
You watch a trailer and it looks promising but then a festival logo appears and you'll know the movie is going to suck. But this one kept me in a bit more untill the absolute last red lights began to flash. If third party positive critcal quotes start showing up in a trailer then you know 100% sure the film is a disaster. Why do they make the trailer like this. It scares movie visitors away.

I'm going to watch it right now on bbc iplayer because of this comment.
Thank you. I cannot watch anything rapey, and there"s a lot of that in the film world.
What a stunning cinematography and touching background music !!! This is a beautiful movie! Love it.
Hermione's performance is STUNNING. Heart-rending and completely engrossing. Bravo.

Wow! Captivating story, beautiful shot and told! Great direction and should be highlighted as a wonderful film!
OMG !!! Thank you.. this looks like a GOOD & DECENT STORY … at last.
Crushed that this is not streaming in the US, it looks amazing. It should have come here by now!
But you can find it ;)
The DVD is being ordered by my local library here in Canada...I've already put a hold on it.
It’s on Prime Video right now! :)
Saw this at Sedona International Film Festival this weekend ❣️ Incredible film ❣️ Congratulations Ritchie Adams ❣️📽️🍿
everyone should watch this one...everything, cast, music, cinematography perfect
The best film I have ever seen.
It is a poem, ‘The road not taken’
Very disturbing and deals with suicide.
xxxxx
Well done everyone!
O čemu se radi?? Hvala😊
I would have thought if you are making a film based on the islands during that era then the Iolaire would be a fitting subject.
Good thing we're not all paid to think.
"Remember that war your grand-dad told you his dad was in? Well this is a story about the war his dad was in. That's when Britain was somethin' special."
That’s a funny way to say the crown are war mongering genocidal psychopaths.
My Dad served during World War II and my Granddad during WWI.
Yeap a long long time ago .
Wars are not special…

Saw the recap for this film. Such a powerful film.
This movie left me feeling very sad & depressed. A lot of despair.
Will this be coming to the States? I hope it does~ in the mean time, I’ll make do with the book 😊
It’s on Amazon Prime stateside now. :)

The beginning of the trailer gave me Outlander vibes
Just seen this film. It is a masterpiece even though I went to be an extra and failed, haha.

When is the US release date? I’d love to see this film. It looks very good.
I recently saw it in soap2day
Is this supposed to be set in Lewis? Why does everyone sound like they are from the suburbs of Glasgow?
Loads of people from Lewis go to Glasgow to get work. They got the accents right even down to the actual village where it was shot.
@@sweeneytod1 True, but they don't lose their original Hebridean accent
I'm not sure anyone outside of Scotland would pick up on that. And might enjoy the film none the wiser. 😉
