I honestly could have waited another year for KH HD 1.5 Remix if it mean't Square-Enix would have had time to development a 358/2 Days remake. They didn't even need to use Unreal Engine 4 style graphics, just use the same old PS2 stuff from BBS and KH3D.
Eclipse Just in general the console games taking advantage of a multiplayer mode would be awesome. It’d be perfect to have in tandem with a wardrobe system, so players can design their own avatars and have more choice than just the color.

I love this game, it is so unique and while the story is repetitive in terms of mission structure, its still very interesting, especially since you can play in multiplayer, allowing you to play as all the organization members, sora, Donald, goofy, Mickey and riku, I wish they remade/remastered this game mostly for the multiplayer.

@@jordanholloman5907 the multiplayer isn't perfect, but hey there was multiplayer, a first in the series if I'm not mistaken, but again, it's not perfect, the enemies take longer to kill and it was overall harder to the point that I couldn't beat a mission(solo) until I beat the game and got some good gear and a decent level but it allowed the player to use other characters that weren't playable in the main story, which all have different play styles and is generally cool, kh3 allows you to play as other characters(especially in re:mind) but the bad thing is that it only allows those characters to be playable in certain points...if you want to play as riku or aqua you have to either replay the main story of play the re:mind in the specific locations, and if you wanna play roxas or kairi it's ONLY in re:mind, if square enix decides to add more dlc I'd like them to allow you to play as the other characters freely at any point at least in the data battles...

There's actually a bit more to the magic than what you said. Fire and Aero home in, Fira travels straight and pierces enemies, and Blizzard slides through the air in straight lines while tracking the target. Of course, the idea of different tiers of magic doing different things is weird to begin with.

Xigbar's Trumpet might be a reference to him "Blowing his own horn" but let's face it, as early as kh2fm+ Nomura was already planning on what to do with Xigbar, so I'm putting money on a different explanation; A herald of the end. Roxas's Aubade is a love poem usually about two lovers leaving each other at morning. (COUGH COUGH PLOT COUGH) Fast forward past the characters who are just "my personality summed up in a single word is this weapon" Vexen-cold and logical, Xaldin-I'ma Dragoon reference, Lexeaus-hardheaded, Saix-Berserker with a soft side, Zexion-I have a diary. Axel's "Conformers" are a recurring Ninja class ultimate weapon, however, the name speaks volumes, kind of how Axel just "Conforms" to whatever people expect of him up until about kh3d. Luxord's is literally called... "The High Roller's Secret", sure while it's a four leaf clover implying "A good luck charm is a high roller's secret weapon", but I see a different telling; "The High Roller has a secret" that we're just now piecing together. Marluxia's is called "The Dainty Bellflower" but SPECIFICALLY looks like a Lily-of-the-valley. Hmm, what do those flowers mean in Flower language.... "A happy reunion" ... Um... what?!?! Is someone we think is flat out dead, in fact, NOT DEAD?! Larxene's is a Light Bulb... literally named "Lightbulb" in french... Now, If I was to describe Larxene's personality it'd be a "Firecracker" not a light bulb. Perhaps it's implying she "Brings someone light" also she "Burns hot" and has an affinity for electricity. Not all of them are super deep. And lastly; Demyx's is the "After School"? So what... he's... in school? or should be? or was prior to being nobodified? This further more likens Demyx to Prompto to pair with the Luxord acts like Ignis, in the FFXV parallels between the crew. In fact, I have to wonder, is the reason we're presuming to get eventually Nomura's "This is my vision for FFXV" in Kingdom Hearts... because these characters were supposed to be Final Fantasy characters who were going to "show up first" in Kingdom Hearts? Food for thought.
Plus since the stuff going on with the union x story showed stuff related to Marluxia's reunion with a supposed dead loved one could make sense, like his sister in the white coat.

It would be interesting. The panel system encourages fighting smarter and planning for the next mission. I personally favored the following for my standard magic lineup (Fire, Blizzard, Thundaga, Cura) attacks that can somewhat track opponents are some of my favorite and the Days version of Cura is amazing in prolonged fights.

Great video! Just one little thing. If you use three ability units in Roxas's Zero gear in story mode he will have kingdom key + but Oathkeeper and Oblivion in Mission Mode.
I NEED a remake for this game! It's the game I spent the most time on farming all the gear and testing different combos. Just imagine modern graphics with the unique gear system AND the online mode! I would easily sink another hundred or so hours into a remake.
Solid breakdown and great ways to explain how the gear works just minor things. Each gear has different categories for each character. Ex. the magic gear for Roxas is the Loaded gear line and for Axel it's the Skill gear line. Starting with the Crisis gear and ending with the Ultimate gear these are kinda an double gear of two previous gears. Ex. Hazard gear is the magic gear + the range gear. And that's about it looking forward to the rest and can't wait to see how many times you say "Shoot" for Xigbar's combat when you get to him lmao.

They should bring back the varying movesets and combine it with the Keyblade Transformations. Each Keyblade would have only one formchange, and said formchange would be the default moveset, rather than a command style-thing.
Lawrence Gist I know, right? That’s actually why I ended up liking formchanges - they feel so unique, like the Gear movesets! I was often wishing that I could just use their unique movesets all the time instead of in limited transformations!
Equipping 3 ability pannels on zero gear will actually give KK++, not revert to KK+, for Roxas in story mode and Xion in mission mode. You can not use DW in regular game except for day 358
honestly days is probably my favorite KH game, i put so many hours into this games as a kid (last i checked my save slot was over 500) and l love the story, this games is the one of the main reasons why roxas is my favorite character. i love the Leviathan keyblade, i thought it was one of the coolest looking keyblades ever, i wish i had a replica of it.
I think one thing to note is that Xion in Days uses Sora's KH2-onwards running animation while holding the Keyblade. So presumably, he got it from her.
Love the breakdown dude! I do like the panel system and it was always exciting to unlock new gear. I really appreciate how different gear gives (mostly) different combos. Ominous gear and Champion gear is probably my favorite :) I gotta go back and get all the gear lol
I need to mention a specific detail you ignored, with the gear: the Plus gear and normal gear get different abilities when you equip ability units to them. let me go ahead and list an example technical Gear gives Roxas Combo boost and Combo jump with 2 ability units, however the plus variant gives Chain power and Chain time with 2 ability units. Yes each Gear's plus variant gives different abilities from their normal variant
People hate so much on Days and Re:Coded and I'm so glad you're bringing the former into the spotlight like this. Your breakdowns are always so thoughtful and thorough, and they really bring out the amount of work that was put into the games you cover - and there was much love put into the DS titles despite the obvious limitations. Thanks for doing the work no one else is willing to do and giving this game a chance to shine!
A couple of points. First, the standard and + versions of gears often grant different abilities. Second, sometimes the same weapon can have different combos depending on which upgrade you're using, though to my knowledge this only ever happens with ++ gears. Abbadon Plasma for example has a longer combo at its highest level that can be shortened with a prompt which its weaker versions use a shorter combo that can be extended with prompts.
I wish they took the time to remake this game for the remixes instead of reusing Re:CoM, I know it would have pushed back the release date but Days' combat was a LOT better than Re:CoM's, honestly, what were Square thinking when they made Re:CoM
Despite being an all powerful weapon, The Stick Roxas uses doesn’t have a keychain, meaning that it’s incomplete. Nomura must’ve realized he almost gave Roxas a weapon to surpass the X-blade, so he had to give Roxas it’s nerfed version instead and limit its use to a few missions so players would not breeze through the rest of the game. To this day, no one but Nomura has seen The Stick’s true form.
Its always good to experiment with Gears; for example I found out for Roxas/Xion's midair gears, prematurely ending the air combo and ending it with the horizontal slash move (instead of the spinning finisher) actually deals more damage/have a higher multiplier than if you just did the combo normally, but at the same time it doesn't have great enemy homing
I hope you don't mind a suggestion for a future video. Could you look over the enemies of 358/2 Days and go over their strengths/weaknesses/and strategies on beating them? You can even break them up into classes based on types! XD
Okay, the biggest thing you got wrong is that just because a weapon has the same name (ie Ominous Blight and Ominous Blight+) does NOT mean they have the same abilities! If a weapon has multiple abilities some might be the same, but not all of them. You also didn't mention that Pandora Gear gives you the Risky Play ability, even with no Ability Units, which slightly drains your health with every missed attack Also, the Zero Gear only changes appearance with Ability Units for Roxas and Xion, and you only get Dual Wielding Roxas in mission mode, not story mode EDIT: Okay looking back on this part I phrased it much harsher than I meant to, so let me say you still did a great job analyzing the combo differences! Days has so many different weapons that function totally differently, and that part didn't feel rushed at all! Some minor things about magic that you glossed over Basic Fire has a homing effect on enemies, while Fira does not, but travels faster. Blizzard will actually kind of "hang around" and go through enemies multiple times. With Blizzara the AoE is exactly what the effect looks like, but with Blizzaga the AoE is much larger once an enemy walks near Thundaga will actually lock on to whatever enemy you're targeting, its not just a set distance away Curaga will also let you heal allies

Not from my experience but I may have missed something ^^ I did get all the keyblade abilities a bit wrong though haha I didn’t realize the different versions of each keyblade would give different abilities for each ability slot! Glad you enjoyed it though c:
0:17 You know, when you have multiple panels of the same type, you can hold down the A button or whatever it is you use and you'll automatically fill any empty space with that panel until you run out, instead of placing it one by one.

I will say that Days was developed a few years before KHX, so it's more that KHX and KHUx are referencing Days and not the other way around. Still cool that these connections are there, I was stunned when I recognized Missing Ache in Days.
Me not knowing anything about Days: "It would be cool if you could get the Two Become One keyblade" Me by the end: "THEY LET YOU DO IT AND HE CAN DUAL WIELD AND THEY REFERENCE SOME OF THE ATTACKS WITH DOUBLE FORM IN KH3"
If there ever is a remake or derivative of 358/2 Days system, I’d like a keyblade where you can choose the moves and combinations, perhaps deriving from keyblade you’ve “mastered.” There are a variety of moves from this game that are really creative, and could be put together to make some really effective combos. ex. Total Eclipses aerial finisher knocking an enemy to the ground, followed up by Twilight Blaze’s finisher in pursuit. Edit: Just saw this example matches Omega Gear’s combo. Doy.
I really love Limit Break mechanic ... Reminding us that these guys are a boss character with the Limit Break as DM when the boss health get lower ... Too bad they didn't give Roxas the Limit Break mechanic in KH3 ... The different mechanic could make each playable character feels unique ...
This is a very minor nitpick, and I can't blame you for not covering such a long list, but the Gears with + and ++ variants actually have different ability sets each. Like, Abaddon Plasma's abilities are different from Abaddon Plasma+, and both are different from Abaddon Plasma++, etc. Edit: And not to make your job even harder, but another thing you might be interested in for this series is the particle effects each weapon gives off. Every single weapon in this game, or at least every "group" of weapons, has unique particle effects, and this goes for the other characters as well (e.g. while the Keyblades give off star-particles typically, the Scythes give off different colors of flower petals). One bit in particular I think you'd be most interested in, the magic-focused weapons for all characters create an interesting pattern/sigil in the air at the combo finishers, and this pattern is different between characters.
Dual wield Roxas is only playable in the story mode briefly during the final mission. If you use the Zero Gear with three ability units in story mode, Roxas just gets the Kingdom Key+, just like Shion. Dual wield Roxas is usable freely in mission mode. Omega Weapon is a recurring superboss in the Final Fantasy series, usually taking the form of a spider-like robot. The name of the Keyblade is obviously meant yo parallel the Ultima Weapon and while it does normally appear as sword in the FF series, it does sometimes appear alongside a powerful boss monster as well. Omega Weapon's abilities also references Ultima Weapon in FF, as it typically deals more damage depending on the user's health.
When I first played 358, I didn't pay attention at all to my keyblade. I just picked a gear and equipped whatever I had at the time. The one I rocked for most of the game was the longer ground and air combo one because I thought longer combos means more damage, and while I wasn't wrong about that, I didn't capitalize on more powerful effects from other gear.
The magic centric keyblades are strange in the fact that they give you quite a bit of strength for when you get them, and have very fast and short combos making them work very well against most enemies and at launching barrels in olympus.
Also suprised you didn't mention 2 keyblades in this actually appeared in the HD collection version of re chain of memeories since it lacked the old reward of KH2 keyblade cards. I thinkone was thestrength focused keyblade and maverick flare for extras.
The Struggle Bat also appears, and it mostly focuses on sending the ball upwards Both the ground and air combos center around Roxas swinging upwards to keep the ball in the air.
Fire actually has a powerful homing property Fira lost homing but has higher damage and the attack ends with an explosion Blizzard also has a homing property but instead of following endlessly until it hits, it zips and stops going through the enemy multiple times (I think three or four?) before dissipating midair Aerora is another homing shot, but this time it's grounded, any flying enemies that fly low enough can get hit by it
Okay so you missed a little something with the magic. Fire homes in on targets, while Fira passes through targets. Blizzard homes in on targets while passing through them multiple times. And lastly, Thundaga blasts which ever enemy you are currently targeting.
The dual wielding combo is insanely satisfying. It's a shame that you only get to use it on the last day where nothing survives the first two hits or in mission mode where an unshaken Saïx takes all the hits and zero knockback.

Man, I wish I liked this game. All of these designs are cool, and they have so much time and effort put into the combat. It's just that the game is a slog and it's almost impossible to play the Multiplayer. It'd be cool if it got a remake or even a Spiritual Successor, but that seems too unlikely.
Not sure if it was mentioned, but the abilities mentioned for gears in this video are often specifically for the last version. Earlier versions tend to have different abilities, some rather significant. (Duel Gear has Second Chance, for example.)

Larxene's is a Light Bulb... literally named "Lightbulb" in french... Now, If I was to describe Larxene's personality it'd be a "Firecracker" not a light bulb. Perhaps it's implying she "Brings someone light" also she "Burns hot" and has an affinity for electricity. Not all of them are super deep.
And lastly; Demyx's is the "After School"? So what... he's... in school? or should be? or was prior to being nobodified? This further more likens Demyx to Prompto to pair with the Luxord acts like Ignis, in the FFXV parallels between the crew.
In fact, I have to wonder, is the reason we're presuming to get eventually Nomura's "This is my vision for FFXV" in Kingdom Hearts... because these characters were supposed to be Final Fantasy characters who were going to "show up first" in Kingdom Hearts?

It would be interesting. The panel system encourages fighting smarter and planning for the next mission. I personally favored the following for my standard magic lineup (Fire, Blizzard, Thundaga, Cura) attacks that can somewhat track opponents are some of my favorite and the Days version of Cura is amazing in prolonged fights.
They have just about all the maps and character models. I'd take a KH2 graphics remake of 358 days honestly

Great video! Just one little thing. If you use three ability units in Roxas's Zero gear in story mode he will have kingdom key + but Oathkeeper and Oblivion in Mission Mode.

It's the game I spent the most time on farming all the gear and testing different combos.
Just imagine modern graphics with the unique gear system AND the online mode! I would easily sink another hundred or so hours into a remake.

Solid breakdown and great ways to explain how the gear works just minor things.
Each gear has different categories for each character.
Ex. the magic gear for Roxas is the Loaded gear line and for Axel it's the Skill gear line.
Starting with the Crisis gear and ending with the Ultimate gear these are kinda an double gear of two previous gears.
Ex. Hazard gear is the magic gear + the range gear.
And that's about it looking forward to the rest and can't wait to see how many times you say "Shoot" for Xigbar's combat when you get to him lmao.

They should bring back the varying movesets and combine it with the Keyblade Transformations.
Each Keyblade would have only one formchange, and said formchange would be the default moveset, rather than a command style-thing.

Equipping 3 ability pannels on zero gear will actually give KK++, not revert to KK+, for Roxas in story mode and Xion in mission mode. You can not use DW in regular game except for day 358

honestly days is probably my favorite KH game, i put so many hours into this games as a kid (last i checked my save slot was over 500) and l love the story, this games is the one of the main reasons why roxas is my favorite character. i love the Leviathan keyblade, i thought it was one of the coolest looking keyblades ever, i wish i had a replica of it.
I think one thing to note is that Xion in Days uses Sora's KH2-onwards running animation while holding the Keyblade. So presumably, he got it from her.
Ngl i really still want 358/2 to be remade. Imagine all the things they can do with it. Even multiplayer.
If you ask me, I think the Umbrella is more powerful! Also, please remake this game, Square!

I need to mention a specific detail you ignored, with the gear: the Plus gear and normal gear get different abilities when you equip ability units to them. let me go ahead and list an example technical Gear gives Roxas Combo boost and Combo jump with 2 ability units, however the plus variant gives Chain power and Chain time with 2 ability units. Yes each Gear's plus variant gives different abilities from their normal variant
People hate so much on Days and Re:Coded and I'm so glad you're bringing the former into the spotlight like this. Your breakdowns are always so thoughtful and thorough, and they really bring out the amount of work that was put into the games you cover - and there was much love put into the DS titles despite the obvious limitations. Thanks for doing the work no one else is willing to do and giving this game a chance to shine!
A couple of points. First, the standard and + versions of gears often grant different abilities. Second, sometimes the same weapon can have different combos depending on which upgrade you're using, though to my knowledge this only ever happens with ++ gears. Abbadon Plasma for example has a longer combo at its highest level that can be shortened with a prompt which its weaker versions use a shorter combo that can be extended with prompts.
I wish they took the time to remake this game for the remixes instead of reusing Re:CoM, I know it would have pushed back the release date but Days' combat was a LOT better than Re:CoM's, honestly, what were Square thinking when they made Re:CoM
Despite being an all powerful weapon, The Stick Roxas uses doesn’t have a keychain, meaning that it’s incomplete.
Nomura must’ve realized he almost gave Roxas a weapon to surpass the X-blade, so he had to give Roxas it’s nerfed version instead and limit its use to a few missions so players would not breeze through the rest of the game.
To this day, no one but Nomura has seen The Stick’s true form.
Its always good to experiment with Gears; for example I found out for Roxas/Xion's midair gears, prematurely ending the air combo and ending it with the horizontal slash move (instead of the spinning finisher) actually deals more damage/have a higher multiplier than if you just did the combo normally, but at the same time it doesn't have great enemy homing

- days roxas had better dual-wield combos than kh3 roxas
- it did the best air slide in the series

Okay, the biggest thing you got wrong is that just because a weapon has the same name (ie Ominous Blight and Ominous Blight+) does NOT mean they have the same abilities! If a weapon has multiple abilities some might be the same, but not all of them.
You also didn't mention that Pandora Gear gives you the Risky Play ability, even with no Ability Units, which slightly drains your health with every missed attack
Also, the Zero Gear only changes appearance with Ability Units for Roxas and Xion, and you only get Dual Wielding Roxas in mission mode, not story mode
EDIT: Okay looking back on this part I phrased it much harsher than I meant to, so let me say you still did a great job analyzing the combo differences! Days has so many different weapons that function totally differently, and that part didn't feel rushed at all!
Some minor things about magic that you glossed over
Basic Fire has a homing effect on enemies, while Fira does not, but travels faster.
Blizzard will actually kind of "hang around" and go through enemies multiple times.
With Blizzara the AoE is exactly what the effect looks like, but with Blizzaga the AoE is much larger once an enemy walks near
Thundaga will actually lock on to whatever enemy you're targeting, its not just a set distance away
Curaga will also let you heal allies
So Omnious Blight will have a different ability than Ominous Blight +? I had no idea. That's really interesting! Thanks for pointing that out!

Not from my experience but I may have missed something ^^ I did get all the keyblade abilities a bit wrong though haha I didn’t realize the different versions of each keyblade would give different abilities for each ability slot!

0:17 You know, when you have multiple panels of the same type, you can hold down the A button or whatever it is you use and you'll automatically fill any empty space with that panel until you run out, instead of placing it one by one.

If there ever is a remake or derivative of 358/2 Days system, I’d like a keyblade where you can choose the moves and combinations, perhaps deriving from keyblade you’ve “mastered.” There are a variety of moves from this game that are really creative, and could be put together to make some really effective combos.
ex. Total Eclipses aerial finisher knocking an enemy to the ground, followed up by Twilight Blaze’s finisher in pursuit.
Edit: Just saw this example matches Omega Gear’s combo. Doy.

This is a very minor nitpick, and I can't blame you for not covering such a long list, but the Gears with + and ++ variants actually have different ability sets each. Like, Abaddon Plasma's abilities are different from Abaddon Plasma+, and both are different from Abaddon Plasma++, etc.
Edit: And not to make your job even harder, but another thing you might be interested in for this series is the particle effects each weapon gives off. Every single weapon in this game, or at least every "group" of weapons, has unique particle effects, and this goes for the other characters as well (e.g. while the Keyblades give off star-particles typically, the Scythes give off different colors of flower petals). One bit in particular I think you'd be most interested in, the magic-focused weapons for all characters create an interesting pattern/sigil in the air at the combo finishers, and this pattern is different between characters.
Dual wield Roxas is only playable in the story mode briefly during the final mission. If you use the Zero Gear with three ability units in story mode, Roxas just gets the Kingdom Key+, just like Shion. Dual wield Roxas is usable freely in mission mode.
Omega Weapon is a recurring superboss in the Final Fantasy series, usually taking the form of a spider-like robot. The name of the Keyblade is obviously meant yo parallel the Ultima Weapon and while it does normally appear as sword in the FF series, it does sometimes appear alongside a powerful boss monster as well. Omega Weapon's abilities also references Ultima Weapon in FF, as it typically deals more damage depending on the user's health.
I wonder which Keyblades players most enjoy using in this game. For their abilities? For their combos? I’m curious.
When I first played 358, I didn't pay attention at all to my keyblade. I just picked a gear and equipped whatever I had at the time. The one I rocked for most of the game was the longer ground and air combo one because I thought longer combos means more damage, and while I wasn't wrong about that, I didn't capitalize on more powerful effects from other gear.
The magic centric keyblades are strange in the fact that they give you quite a bit of strength for when you get them, and have very fast and short combos making them work very well against most enemies and at launching barrels in olympus.
Also suprised you didn't mention 2 keyblades in this actually appeared in the HD collection version of re chain of memeories since it lacked the old reward of KH2 keyblade cards. I thinkone was thestrength focused keyblade and maverick flare for extras.
The Struggle Bat also appears, and it mostly focuses on sending the ball upwards
Both the ground and air combos center around Roxas swinging upwards to keep the ball in the air.
Fire actually has a powerful homing property
Fira lost homing but has higher damage and the attack ends with an explosion
Blizzard also has a homing property but instead of following endlessly until it hits, it zips and stops going through the enemy multiple times (I think three or four?) before dissipating midair
Aerora is another homing shot, but this time it's grounded, any flying enemies that fly low enough can get hit by it

Okay so you missed a little something with the magic. Fire homes in on targets, while Fira passes through targets. Blizzard homes in on targets while passing through them multiple times. And lastly, Thundaga blasts which ever enemy you are currently targeting.
The dual wielding combo is insanely satisfying. It's a shame that you only get to use it on the last day where nothing survives the first two hits or in mission mode where an unshaken Saïx takes all the hits and zero knockback.
Damn bro, I can't even begin to imagine how long this took. I love your content and I would like to suggest you do kh recoded next, since there aren't many videos showing the commands from that game
Also, I just wanna mention that roxas's ground dual wield combo at 13:55 is pretty much the same as when you fight him near the end of kh2 fm
They need to remaster this game. Like I loved everything about this game, and the multiplayer mode would be so cool if used for online on consoles/PC.
Man, I wish I liked this game. All of these designs are cool, and they have so much time and effort put into the combat. It's just that the game is a slog and it's almost impossible to play the Multiplayer. It'd be cool if it got a remake or even a Spiritual Successor, but that seems too unlikely.
Not sure if it was mentioned, but the abilities mentioned for gears in this video are often specifically for the last version. Earlier versions tend to have different abilities, some rather significant. (Duel Gear has Second Chance, for example.)
All the different equipment and characters playable is why I have over 100 hours on my main DS save for this game.

I wish xion had her own fighting style and limit break so she is not just a clone of roxas and it would be cool if they remade it and let you choose your own limit breaks kinda like shot locks.
