Best way I found out how to beat Dustflier is having high crit % and Crit Bonus. It seems when you land criticals, it ignores the huge def the Dustflier has. So choosing the Critical Sun Ring and choosing a keyblade that improves your crit % and using Sight Units really helps.
Yeah the unfortunate thing about a lot of these bosses is that you can't cheese them with magic as easily so it's one of the few cases where going for a high crit% build is the way to go
I can attest to that. Yeah, this boss was insanely annoying. The critical strategy was how I beat it.
Dustiflier is so busted that I used an Action Replay to make myself unkillable, but it just instantly depleted my health to 0 with each attack, putting the game into a state where I was counted as "dead" and the fight didn't end with its defeat...
Holy shit💀
I used a cheat to equip multiple rings, then I gave myself another ability whenever things got tough.
I defeated it multiple times legitimately by using the terrain to my advantage. And yes, there is a way to do this. Dustflier is the easiest superboss in the series.

I remember trying to 100% the game to unlock Sora and the dustflyer was the thing I was missing. Very difficult
Bro.. That last one was so traumatic that as soon as I lost it for the first time, I ran to the exit point
I was so proud beating Dustflier that I refuse to deleted as a kid. I did it the long and hard way. It was the only time I started paying attention to the enemy’s moveset’s and animation frames.
There is actually a slight cheese for the duskflier that i found as a kid. if you spam thundara at on the shadows while the Dustflier is far away, you can bait it to jump and land inside the shadows. If you're lucky, a shadow may get the static debuff and stumble into the Dustfliers tail, wiping out a whole bar's worth of its hp. its pretty inconsistent due to how much the shadows and dustflier constantly move around, but you can definitely get it to happen a couple times a fight.
Say whaaaaaat?!
I haven't knowlegde of these bosses!
The dustflier shockwave can give several status effects besides confusion
Btw, is beating it at Lv.60 impressive at all?
Id say it's pretty impressive to beat it at any level, the footage I used was from a save file where I was around level 50 and I was having trouble beating him so 60 is impressive to me at least
@@KeyofTime15 yay ^^
Can confirm it does use multiple status effects. One time, I'm blinded and can't hit the dang thing. The next, I get the status effect that makes it so I can't jump, which is basically a death sentence no matter what level you are.

@@agonyaaa Huh?
Fighting Dustflyer just to unlock Sora in Mission Mode was one of the most masochist things I've ever done in my life. XD
You can chesse the dustflier by hiding behind the tower entrance having him stand on the opposite side and spamming thundaga. He can't get to you at all if you do it right.
As someone who played the DS release of 358/2, I can faintly visualize the HELL that Anti-Saix and Dustflier put me through 0-0
(Same for Anti-Riku bc holy HELL does that guy hit like a truck)
Right??? Both of those fights are painfully fun
About time somebody talked about the secret bosses from this game! I wish Xigbar got the Anti treatment too considering he was fought in Olympus Colosseum
I wish that too!!! A full fight instead of one cut off by the Guard Armor would be good too
@@KeyofTime15 Fax
Yeah. The anti bosses are there to account for mission mode and the fact that you can play as multiple characters, including Riku and Saïx. I highly recommend playing this game with others if you can because it is a blast and was apparently what the game was designed for, especially with modifications available to your damage, enemy damage, allowed deaths, and more. When you have 4 players, this game shines just as bright as any other.
Believe me if I'm ever given the opportunity to play the game as Intended with 4 players I absolutely will
@@KeyofTime15 I recently figured put how to do so
dustflier was the only fight in the game i didn’t beat first try, so it was fun to finally have to learn something. beating it felt rewarding too.
Yep the phantom heartless is the one I associated with being as scary as the death things from Harry Potter as a kid🤣
Dementors
@@gamesmaster804thank you😅 i can’t always remember the name
Dustflier is very weak to lightning magic, and is why I hadn’t really swapped back off of like having 30 lightning spells in my deck.
I had a bit of trouble with the antis and Xion because I relied on voice lines to deal with a lot of their attacks.
Me too, they're also just tanky as fuck
I never knew about the anti forms of Saix and Riku. Damn, I wish we can get a proper days and re:coded remake or remaster. Thanks for the video!
Praying for a Days remake daily, maybe someday! 🙏
The anti-Saix and Riku are probably mostly so players don't confuse them with the playable versions in multiplayer.
Yes but they are also significantly more difficult
And also if that were the case how come Xigbar didn't get one?
@@KeyofTime15 all enemies in Mission Mode are more difficult. They're compensating for having more than 1 player whaling on them.
And Xigbar wasn't really a real fight anyway.
dustflier isn't hard, it's painful. Its pattern are easy but it 2 shot you pretty much no matter what and you deal almost no damage if you're not high enough level / built the wrong way
i've said a few times that i never got the chance to play days (or at least not yet), so this was pretty cool to learn (which also means (if i'm not mistaken) that the only kh games without secret bosses are com and re:coded). i feel that out of the spin-off titles the only secret boss ones that are truly well known are the ones from bbs since they had a whole world essentially just for them.
In re:coded there is a secret boss fight that you after the main game is over and if you defeat him you get the ultima weapon of the game. Spoiler:
It's a bug version of Data Roxas which you fight on the last floor on the hollow bastion's last bug infested datascape.
@@jimmoleonchronobird2960 didn't know that either, but that's pretty cool, thanks for the info
Amnesty =\= animosity
I remember getting so close to beating Dustflier. When I got half a bar left, I accidently left the area and it reset him!!
No way!! Id be so pissed 🤣😭
@@KeyofTime15 I was. So much so that I never tried again. lol
I actually found the Dustflier to be reasonably manageable, speaking from a save file of 32 hours on a DS Lite.
It never got too frustrating for me- A simple strategy of poking and backing off applied to an enemy with less attacks than I have fingers on 1 hand.
*Much more difficult than all the other 6 giants in that mission put together, but not so much that it took me more than 3 tries to beat it at level 63.
I hated the Dustflier so much because everytime I tried to evade his fireballs they would ALWAYS ALWAYS hit me even when I was WAY in the corner
If you feel like dustflyer was not annoying enough remember you can also fight him in mission mode were you go from doing next to damage, to no damage except with each combo finisher which is the tiniest sliver of health.
Mannnn these used to CRUSH me as a kid
came across your channel randomly looking up old kingdom hearts games. great content. you seem like a genuine dude
Thanks a lot! :) I try my best
The fact that you have to beat the dustflier to unlock sora in mission mode is stupid but I did it anyway.
only way i could beat him is cheesin it. theres a handy video on youtube that shows you can get him to land on one side of the clock tower entrance while you hide behind the other side. the shockwaves dont reach at that distance, and the invisible wall prevents his projectiles reaching you as well as keeps him in place as he tries to move toward you. spam thundaga and viola.
Playstation needs to remaster this in ps4 console!!!! That includes Multi player mode!!!!!!!😡
Agreed!
I remember struggling against Saix, but not Dustflier. Even though I was a complete noob at the time.
His dark variant is pretty tough and the dustflier is too but both aren't that bad with some prep
How to play it using melonDS?
If you think the Dustflier superboss was tough, try doing it in Co-Op mode with friends! The lag makes it twice as hard!
First I need friends to play with 😭
That was actually the first way I had beat it, but without friends so I could play as other characters to see what worked best, ended up just playing as Roxas and using Leviathan to scratch its skull while skirting the area so I didn't get caught in close proximity if I don't choose to approach
The biggest thing was waiting out Blind and hoping it didn't start raining fireballs
Everyone here talking about Dustflier being a nightmare but I'm just here with "This guy is hard?"
Not necessarily hard but perhaps annoying. Depending on your level it can take awhile so it's a battle of attrition more then anything
@@KeyofTime15
The steps are your ticket to win it
The Dust flier is the only thing that prevented me from getting sora
Keep trying! You'll get it!
how do you manage to stop the crashing in de game of the pc version?
If you're on a smaller PC?..Lower the setting I guess, it runs perfectly fine on the few different computers ive tried it on
😮 me over here, thinking Riku was the last final boss
You should check my 358/2 Days playlist on how I handled the Dustflier.
I guess that’s now on my to do list 🥹
