    I realized mid-run that the scope was calibrated off to the right. However, please take note at how tight the rifle was grouping even at longer distances.
    FYI, if you've seen how these German scopes are adjusted for windage (you adjust the mount with two screws, the scope has no windage adjustment), you'll understand how I am loathing having to head back out to re-zero. This rifle was for sure loads of fun to shoot! - Henry

      Not even for hunting purposes?
      A Kar98 isn't different from most hunting rifles. You should be able to get a hunting license and then justify owning it that way.
      It's not uncommon to run into a hunter here in Denmark that has an old Carl Gustav rifle (military surplus) fitted with a moden sight.

    The man who started the British sniper programme in WW1 was a big game hunter called Major H Hesketh-Pritchard DSO.MC. His book, "Sniping in France' is still required reading for British snipers today and for snipers in many other countries. It is a truly fascinating read which provides in depth insights into the psychology behind the highly efficient German sniping programme of the time and how his training, based on his experience of stalking and killing dangerous African big game, combined with highly imaginative innovations such as precision built highly realistic dummies (which could actually smoke real cigarettes to add to realism) through which the exact direction of a enemy's snipers shot could be calculated, successfully outwitted the highly trained German snipers.

      @deee 327 Deleted again? again how? There was only one and was deleted only once. And did so as I try to avoid arguing online and deiced to try and look at it from your POV to see what I could be missing. Either you are reading the dialogue incorrectly or he wrote it incorrectly. "Why?" "After every shot, he carefully removes his fingerprints from the rifle". should be in separate lines if the joke is intended as you took it (which is just as likely people fuck up dialogue all the time.) The way he has it written would be read as
      S1"That guy over there is pretty good".
      s2"Yes indeed, but I have a feeling that we should better check his personal background".
      s1* "Why?" "After every shot he carefully removes his fingerprints from the rifle".
      The stereotype I referred to would be "german cleanliness and order" which from what I can tell are not exactly inaccurate. You have a very clean and beautiful country.

    • @MrDJAK777
      @MrDJAK777 4 года назад +4

      @deee 327 you are definitely not understanding what my words mean at the very least, "Why would they have to look into his background then??? Because Germans are worried about cleanliness and order??" is not what I implied and is taken out of order. The way it is written in the original post would be read in English as follows (this is my last attempt at explaining why we took it differently here.)
      Soldier 1 "That guy over there is pretty good".
      soldier 2 "Yes indeed, but I have a feeling that we should better check his personal background".

      soldier 1 "Why?" "After every shot, he carefully removes his fingerprints from the rifle". (this is written as one line and would be read to mean "why bother he is clearly german" not "better check his background he's being overly clean" as you seem to think I meant.)
      For it to accurately be the way you read it which again may very well have been the intended way, it would be written as
      Soldier 1" That guy over there is pretty good".
      soldier 2 "Yes indeed, but I have a feeling that we should better check his personal background".
      soldier 1 "Why?"
      soldier 2 "After every shot, he carefully removes his fingerprints from the rifle".
      You seem to think I'm trying to prove my interpretation correct, that is not the case, just that his sentence structure is written incorrectly for the joke to be taken as you know the joke to go. the structure completely changes the meaning.

      @deee 327
      Peace says what you want, I'm out regardless, this is becoming repetitious to the point of insanity. Edit: Just got the notification of your edit I explained why it was taken that way due to incorrect dialogue structure which is why they were so long deleting the rest of the shit I repeated in this comment now since you got my meaning mostly at least.

    Holy. Crap! That was awesome! When we last discussed this Henry it amazed me when you told me the Germans didn't use windage on the particular scope, just mainly elevation. Plus with the whole Kar98k being very nice in it's condition too. That really is something, man.
    It always made me curious how the US would have employed snipers had they gotten over the whole "honorable rules" during WWII. Though, I think the M1 Garand being the main focus as standard issue was also partly why the US didn't have many sniper rifles made at that time. I believe the War Department didn't want to cause delays on manufacturing incoming Garands. Really would like to test that out with a 1903A4 with the Weaver 330C and "scant" stock. 1903's in general always sparked my curiosity, especially the different manufacturers like Remington and Smith-Corona 1903s.
    Awesome work Henry and Josh! Loved the 450 yard audio sneak in too. ;) And congrats on your chicken dinner. hehe

    just something I want to add:
    yes the german snipers got "special ammo" but it was basically "can you get me Anschuss Patronen?" to the armourer/ammo supply person.
    The ammo you point out was absolutely prefered and sought after from snipers, but official it´s use was as the name says for "Anschuss" basicly a match load for the armourers to check rifles.
    It´s planed for checking the zero or rezeroing of rifle sights, but it was "semi-official" approved to hand this ammo out to snipers and basicaly the snipers tended to go well with ther unit armourers so they kept some of those bullets aside for them.
    A German word calles Organisationstalent has 2 meainings, literally being talented in doing things in a clear (organized) way, but because organizing also ment "getting something somehow"
    Organisationstalent could also mean that this person was very skilled in "liberating, trading, finding, collecting and repurpussing things"
    in exactly this way most snipers went for al kinds of usefull gear wich they needed to do ther tasks, specialieced equipment was fielded very late in the war.

    The German K98 is also my go to rifle for long range shooting. The only difference of my setup is that I am using a newer style scope with a mount system that does not need special drilling into the rifle and indeed using existing mounting locations so I dont take away the value from the rifle. I bought mine back when I was 18 and I am now 35. The last time i was shooting at 100 yards and hitting near bulls eye I didnt notice a large crowd swarming around me at the range and put a huge smile on my face.
