This was an eye opener. Thank you Pastor John. Praying to God for the blessing to be married to a believer in Christ.

I believe this is a point of careful mentorship from a loving Heavenly Father who wants solid, wholesome, functional, and holy marriage relationships for His children.

I sincerely wonder about a question that is related: How far is too far emotionally in non-romantic relationships? As a single man I enjoy talking to different women - some of them my age.
I think asking "how are you?" and discussing spiritual things can be appropriate. But I am not always sure how much to open up emotionally is healthy if I have no romantic intentions.

I think that it is just something that you have to purposely limit. I have had several serious conversations about spiritual topics with men and women, and I can say that from experience, when talking with single women as a single guy, I do not want to direct the conversation toward a romantic topic, which could hurt me or the woman. Best to just play it safe.

I don't think there's a magic formula for these things. If you want to avoid getting hurt or hurting someone, then I guess the best thing is to never talk to anyone.

      @@mattr.1887 Thanks for the reply.
Ironically not talking to anybody will also hurt me (I know that loneliness can even physically hurt) and sometimes others.
While I agree that there is no magic formula that can prevent all hurt in these relationships I do think there are some things one can consider. I think I have learnt a bit about that since I posted the question.
I consider it wise to avoid any exlusivity in this type of relationship. I mean telling her things that I wouldn´t tell any other person. Since I don´t find that explicitly in the bible I don´t put it on others but I think it is helpful for me to maintain a healthy distance.

Wow, i never knew that praying together n reading scripture together are dangerous. Now i know why it’s so hard for me tp forget my ex (who just broke up for almost a month, we just dated for almost 2months), we pray together, go to eucharist mass together. As a catholic girl, it’s hard for me to find a catholic Godly man, which makes me so happy when i found this guy who’s polite to me, accompany me to church occasions, pray with me, little that i know that’s only faking. Once we dated (then there’s no sexual intercourse in our dating), he fades away, until i felt unloved. Now, my logic knows he’s no good, breaking up with him for now is good (unless he truly find a way to be a Godly man), but i still cry at nights, blaming myself for his change, hoping that we can do better (altough i knew i’ve tried my best).

Well, praying together is something to be valued. Which I now know and understand. Loving the lord with someone, or you thinking that you're loving the lord with someone is deeply emotional. That's not something to trifle with. That is YOUR God and you love him your own way and to share that with someone is really something. I understand your pain, just try your best to work through it sister. You'll make it.

Don't feel guilty about his change of mind. You continue in your ways - your priorities and life is in order. God will surely bring you a godly man.

Even praying together is dangerous? Really? Geez, at this rate, it's best never to talk to anyone. Don't even look at a woman; that could be Satan attacking you. Jesus did say to gouge out your eye.

You can look at woman you can pray and have emotional and spiritual connection with who you want, but maybe it wouldn't be the best option if you know certainly that you won't marry and is temporary because you are only hurting each other.

no. Paul had no desire for marriage and he talked about it in one of his letters that singleness and lack od desire can be a good thing for the Kingdom
