that was a classic south indian wedding...wedding here in north india are different...but always extra..we use horse instead of elephant😹💞..ly❤🌸
Not classic South Indian. Mix of North and South. They included Sangeeth and baarat which are basically North style. But everyone in South including that just to have good time partying as marriages are more about rituals in South and can be boring for the guests

as a fellow South Indian Malayali kid living in the UK - this makes me wanna cry my eyes out I miss home!
Also for all the non-Indians here, I just wanted to share that this is a slightly Americanized version of an Indian wedding (nothing wrong with that at all, and it makes sense cause the wedding has been adapted to suit the culture that it has been set in). We don't usually have a "first dance" or things like that at a reception. At the reception, it is normally just the couple standing on a stage and they greet and take photos with all their wedding guests. Plus, Tamil and Gujarati weddings rarely have alcohol at them (unlike a lot of American weddings). Similarly, during the actual wedding ceremony, there are no flower girls or a procession of the father and daughter walking towards the groom (like there is in American/Christian weddings). In fact, for the "thaali" tying ceremony, the daughter sits on her father's lap and the to-be husband ties it around her neck, kinda signifying the movement of the bride from one family to another. Although I personally don't like that practice (since it is patriarchal and regressive) that is actually what happens at Tamil weddings. Lastly, there are usually no elephants at an Indian wedding (it really just depends on how much the family is willing to spend as having an elephant at a wedding is not mandated by Indian tradition). In North Indian weddings there is often a horse carriage to carry the groom but that is about it! Regardless, it was wonderful to watch a fusion of Tamil, Gujarati, and American cultures at this wedding. Congrats to your uncle, Roja!! Love from India

Roja uncle is Tamil but he married to Gujarati and in the marriage ceremony they were dancing in Punjabi songs 😃😊. I have sri lankan eelam roots. Our family escaoed sri lanka during genocide 😔and settled in london. Now we again returned to sri lanka . My dad married a andhra telugy girl when he was in london. I am also half tamil 😋. Now my only wish is separate eelam 😔.
