I think I will make this block with a 2.5" wide crumb strip in between the 2 side panels. the Lutheran church will use a 6x8 quilt top in their monthly group to create quilts for those in need. This is a great idea. Thanks for sharing this simple and lovely pattern.

This has a lot of possible layouts. You could cut your background fabric with different widths, the squares could be lined up in alternating directions…What a flexible bock this is. It doesn’t even have to be scrappy. Would work up nicely with precuts like jelly rolls and layer cakes. Thanks for a great tutorial.

I am a member of a Homemakers group through the University of Kentucky Extension Service. I have made small quilts for the Extension Service to provide to children in need. Extension Services, Police Departments, Fire Departments and Rescue Departments are good sources for getting quilts to children in need. But, ask first.

One of the reasons I joined our local guild was because making quilts for Hospice patients is a priority for us. So I went through my stash and found enough to make 3 of these quilts. One tip I have is to cut up a charm pack into 2.5 inch squares. You get 4 squares out of one charm.

Another way you could use up even more scraps is too so scraps to a strip of adding machine tape. The scraps didn’t need to be 2 1/2 inches but that way you could use even smaller scraps for your centerpiece. Love your channel.

A few months back my guild had some of the charities we donate our quilts to come speak to us and it was so nice to hear how much the people wo receive them love them. It was very motivating to get back to sewing and making more quilts for those less fortunate than ourselves.

(I was amazed you didn't put 6 blocks down the middle and make it 12.5" unfinished, as you do most of your charity blocks. I probably will, but 10" finished is easy to work with as well.)

You never gave the size of the black and white fabric is cut. You did say 10 1/2 long but not the width. Our guild is doing a community project for a Tiny House program in Fredericton New Brunswick, Canada. Funding is in place for 56 more units. We would like to make each occupant of these homes a quilt. I think this pattern would be great. Thankyou
