Couple of questions on the Osmo 4 if you don't mind 🙂 1. you mentioned color grading the Osmo 4, does it have a auto color grading setting or do you have to manually color grade it to get the sharper video? I primarily only use my GP11 for vlogging and reviews. 2. does the Osmo 4 have a 3.5mm plug for a mic? Was that a USB-C plug for the mic? 3. How does the Osmo 4 compare to the GP11 on stabilization? Does the DJi has something like gopro cloud? I really like cloud, I can just plug in, forget about it and later send people links with videos - is there same feature in DJI system?
I have only ever used GoPro if this DJI is this good it might be worth the change! My GoPro overheats all the time, is there a aftermarket cooling system that can be used? Now all my GoPro stuff seems obsolete 😮

The newest release company will typically be better. Technology/reviews are constantly chasing it tail. Wish there was a way to compare with hero 12 that comes out in a month, but im sure there will be a review at that time.
Still 4k, ill pass on that already. The old excuses of people just watch on phones just isn't true. And for stuff I keep for myself and don't post I want the highest quality available. Now, that being said I would be curious to what the daylight looks like in full res but also disappointed they didn't go with a 1 inch. It's not like they don't have plenty of experience in this market. They are doing what 360 does which is giving old 3 year old technology a reboot and not really stepping up with some WOW factors. Also, I love the full frame square gopro has which again with that 5k just... (chefs kiss). Now, lets see what @Gopro come up with in September.
Why is everyone comparing this camera to the old GP11? Why dont you compare it to the Action 3? Is the focus issue finally fixed? Is this camera better? Does it overheat faster or not at all?
The focus issue wasn’t a fault of the camera. Action 3 had a larger sensor and so minimum focus distance is greater, the image wasn’t blurry, people were just too close to the lens, cause the lens does not motors for autofocus. On the action 4 the sensor is larger again so the minimum focusing distance went even higher.
Were you paid by DJI? Serious question...definitely felt like you were attacking GoPro at times and making it seem like their mounting system sucked. I would never trust a magnetic mount while mountain biking...
Hey thanks for your concern. I’m not paid off by dji. And I’m still a gopro fan boy, but this camera actually got me hyped because it looked that good and worked so well. And very true valid point about not wanting to trust a magnetic system on a bike… I get that, although this system is very very tight and I’ve seen falls and tumbled without it coming off. So to me I felt like dji actually came out with GoPros first REAL competition, but then again, then 12 will be out soon and who knows what will happen 🤔

Think its a shame the focus is starting from 40cm and not 30cm like on the previous dji action cams. Means text and close ups closer than 40cm will be blurry with the dji action 4. People have been doing the mod on the action 3 to improve focus distance to be optimised for close ups. Low light sucks on auto mode, way too noisy. You will have to tweak the settings a bit. 4k with too much iso noise just make it look like 720p. But overall, like the software, fast charge and the magnetic quick mount.
Everyone begged for a bigger sensor, as sensor size increases your depth of field decreases meaning your minimum focusing distance in this case increases. The only way to have it both ways is for these cameras to have autofocus but they don’t.
I want one. when is it going to be in the stores ? it's smaller but has a bigger sensor then the Hero ll. better in low light. can go deeper under water. has a better mounting system, front touch screen, better battery life. does not freeze, an app where you can see what you are recording on your phone screen. I guess it's finally time to upgrade from my Hero 3 lol. Do you think the Action 4 is worth the upgrade ? ( I'm Joking ) but I really do still have my Hero 3. I also want to buy a 360 camera. which one should I get to go along with the Action 4 ? I need a couple new toys. I want to be able to record my motorcycle riding. and some other things.

gopro max lens mod that allows for consisten horizon regardless of orientation is a really nice feature. Not sure if DJI has something like that capability.

Im still on the hero 10 and absolutely hate it, overheating, freezing, stupid media mod blah blah. Havent been happy with my gopros since the 7 black (still use them now). 8 , 9 and 10 suck haha. Like everyone else im going to wait for the hero 12 then make my decision but really getting over my gopros. The one thing that would keep me on gopro would be a 3.5mm input jack.
I also have the impression that it's on the cooler (blueish) side on the A4. Gopro looks more pleasing. And yeah, color grading all the videos... ain't nobody got time for that.
Well, GoPro video samples still looks way better than Action 4 in terms of image quality and that "cinematic look" case. 2:54 - Cant say anything here, because your satiuration goes to the moon. 3:36 - Terible performance from DJI.
that might have been my bad color grading that 10bit shot where the saturation goes through the moon... it was a lot of work getting these vids up and running for the launch.. but really appreciate your observations I will keep all of that in mind going forward :)
Funny how all these bought youtube reviews do not mention the bad things. Example: Still not a dam mounting hole on the camera nor as a magentic quick release. Not even in the super expensive adventure combo. My 7 year old YI 4K+ camera even had that. What a joke DJI.
wow i just bought gopro hero 11 at costco yesterday and this popped up so glad i watched. gonna return it for action 4,, gopro 11 overheats like crazy and takes me over 2 hours to charge
do you actually test these or read up. seen comparing videos and you can clearly see the 11 is better also wouldnt it be better to mention the hero 12 is out next month
Great Video! But I he don't think you mentioned that The Action 4 is the latest Action Camera while the GoPro 11 is from last year, it was released on the same day as the Action 3. So I wouldn't say the Action 4 is better, it's just more up to date. We will see next month with the Hero 12.

that is a good question.. ill test that out... but i feel like it will do that.. its good and bad.. the good is that if something happens to your file, its just that last bit that will be corrupt or lost. and also easier to transfer 4GB files across different operating systems, downfall is sometimes you lose a frame of sound which is annoying
@@MrBlackReviews yes, there is a safety element to 4gb. But I am driven crazy by having BeerVlogs we should be broken into 3-8 segments. And with multiple angles it increases workload greatly. And Insta360 almost never corrupts a file . Same for Sony and Apple iPhone. They can all deal with so many things and still keep data safe. Fingers crossed Action 4 fixes it. To be fair you are comparing a 1 year old camera (GoPro) to a brand new camera (DJI), and honestly the GoPro stacks up pretty closely to the Action 4. That being said, GoPro better bring their A game when they release the GoPro 12 in a month or so, because the competition is ON!
thanks Luis, for sure not trying to get people to switch.. i think for the first time i was just really enjoying this new camera, no frustrations or learning curve or bad image quality or stabilization. GoPro still has the edge of what might come out this year
You said that when you turn 10bit on in GoPro It forces you to use a saturated contrasty profile which is false. GoPros should never be recording on anything other than flat profile anyway.
Dunno what your sharpness settings were on both cameras but the 11 definitely looks better to my eyes. There's too much sharpness on the Action 4 which is not great if this is the lowest setting. You can always add sharpening in post but you can't remove it 🤷♀
after recording most of this footage, they did release an firmware update where i can manually adjust sharpness and noise reduction.. but when i did scale in, the gopro at 5.3k did look better... ill do some more testing and post more
Image quality. That remains the problem for DJI Action. The new 4's image is still worse than the GoPro. For everything else the DJI is better. But image quality is why I'll be sticking with the GoPro.
GoPro still looks slightly better as in more realistic than the Osmo 4 but the low light is winning me over can't wait to see what the GoPro 12 has to offer
The dewarp and ultra wide modes are great. I do have concerns with some of your comparisons. The night side by side footage made the Action 4 look much brighter but they were not filmed side by side. You pick an area where you are more in dark for the GoPro and more street lamp lit for the Action 4. The image comparisons of the Action 3, Hero 11, and Action 4 showed what looked like the Hero 11 having the richest colors, all your audio and other tests all look fairly dull in the Action 3 and 4 UNTIL you showed the side by side of the water / city to compare and suddenly the 4 looks much richer in color. Totally unlike the entire rest of your footage, it makes me wonder if you set it to vibrant and the other cams to normal etc. The Action 4 brings a lot to the table but there is a ton of stuff it remains behind the Hero 11 in. I hope you compare this new cam to the Hero 12 when it comes out.
For sure will do a comparison to the 12 . Eagerly awaiting it and hoping it packs a punch. That low light . I know I wasn’t holding it at the same time but i walked that same path as the action 4. I suppose I could have put more info like specs and color grading and stuff on the screen. I’ll have to try that for the next one . Thanks for the comment. I wish my GoPro Hero 11 had real-time recording monitoring like the Action 4 but the color is still better on the GoPro. Some videos should that the Action 4 has a rough time with exposure going from dark to sunlight, ie from a tunnel to sunlight. There is a big and bright moment while it searches for the right exposure. GoPro still for me but the Action 4 sure has some nice features.

I see you don't speak camera settings language, there is a ton of extra image settings in labs firmware for GoPro.

You do not need to connect to the app to use this camera, it works right out of the box

Once I stopped using sandisk cards in the gopro 11 all my problems went away.
What sandisk cards were you using though? I've never had a problem with the extreme pros.

I just tested it.. and i recorded a 9GB file.. so it didnt split it up! so thats good news :D

Be honest, and compare later when Gopro12 is available. Now it's not right, a Gopro that is a year older than another one that is just now new.
To be fair you are comparing a 1 year old camera (GoPro) to a brand new camera (DJI), and honestly the GoPro stacks up pretty closely to the Action 4. That being said, GoPro better bring their A game when they release the GoPro 12 in a month or so, because the competition is ON!
The fact that you think one year is alot for a camera is baffling lmao.
Then next month GoPro will come out with the 12. Everyone, wait until late October to buy a new action cam if you need one.

Same here. I tried the action 4 at a local shop tonight and I’m not impressed.
Unless they drastically change their battery life and overheating issues this ship has kinda sailed
Apparently it will have a new chip with more recording modes and better stability and new screens, bigger sensor is not expected tho

thanks Luis, for sure not trying to get people to switch.. i think for the first time i was just really enjoying this new camera, no frustrations or learning curve or bad image quality or stabilization. GoPro still has the edge of what might come out this year

You said that when you turn 10bit on in GoPro It forces you to use a saturated contrasty profile which is false. GoPros should never be recording on anything other than flat profile anyway.

Great comparison, It looks like the action 4 footage is a little mushy on the face. I am still on the fence between the two for now.
Dunno what your sharpness settings were on both cameras but the 11 definitely looks better to my eyes. There's too much sharpness on the Action 4 which is not great if this is the lowest setting. You can always add sharpening in post but you can't remove it 🤷♀
after recording most of this footage, they did release an firmware update where i can manually adjust sharpness and noise reduction.. but when i did scale in, the gopro at 5.3k did look better... ill do some more testing and post more
Image quality. That remains the problem for DJI Action. The new 4's image is still worse than the GoPro. For everything else the DJI is better. But image quality is why I'll be sticking with the GoPro.
GoPro still looks slightly better as in more realistic than the Osmo 4 but the low light is winning me over can't wait to see what the GoPro 12 has to offer
The dewarp and ultra wide modes are great. I do have concerns with some of your comparisons. The night side by side footage made the Action 4 look much brighter but they were not filmed side by side. You pick an area where you are more in dark for the GoPro and more street lamp lit for the Action 4. The image comparisons of the Action 3, Hero 11, and Action 4 showed what looked like the Hero 11 having the richest colors, all your audio and other tests all look fairly dull in the Action 3 and 4 UNTIL you showed the side by side of the water / city to compare and suddenly the 4 looks much richer in color. Totally unlike the entire rest of your footage, it makes me wonder if you set it to vibrant and the other cams to normal etc. The Action 4 brings a lot to the table but there is a ton of stuff it remains behind the Hero 11 in. I hope you compare this new cam to the Hero 12 when it comes out.
For sure will do a comparison to the 12 . Eagerly awaiting it and hoping it packs a punch. That low light . I know I wasn’t holding it at the same time but i walked that same path as the action 4. I suppose I could have put more info like specs and color grading and stuff on the screen. I’ll have to try that for the next one . Thanks for the comment. I wish my GoPro Hero 11 had real-time recording monitoring like the Action 4 but the color is still better on the GoPro. Some videos should that the Action 4 has a rough time with exposure going from dark to sunlight, ie from a tunnel to sunlight. There is a big and bright moment while it searches for the right exposure.
GoPro still for me but the Action 4 sure has some nice features.
