    I've had that same KLX 230s for a few months now and it's nice. I commute everyday 10 miles to work, even with a few miles at 70mph on the highway and it's fine. I've tested the ABS and it really stops you fast.

    You already have 2 TWs. Get the 230S for rides that require the freeway (65mph +). After sitting on one, if I didn't have a TW, there is no question I would get the 230S. There is even a lowering kit that will my dealer will install that takes the seat height down an extra 3/4 inch, and if you go outside the dealer, you can bring it down something like 1.5 inches. Get the 230s - but try to find one WITHOUT ABS.

    I recently sold a Suzuki DR200. It just didn't have enough power to keep since I love the Tdub so much. I ended up replacing it with a KLX300, but honestly, I think the KLX230 was probably more what I should have gotten. DR200 size with just enough more power to make it more viable on a 55mph road.

    • @collinmc90
      @collinmc90 Год назад +2

      Yeah thats gotta be a tough choice with out getting to thoroughly test ride them. I was thinking I would prefer the 300 because the power difference from the 230 and the TW isn't probably that noticeable (just assuming). But then again the seat height difference between the 230 and 300 just might make it tougher off road. But then again you can probably go 60 all day long on the 300... It's tough figuring out all the pros and cons since they are so specific to our riding style.

    I am short and round, too. I recently got a KLX like the one you show. I like the bike, but IMO there are two necessary changes to be made. Get a Seat Concepts seat to replace the piece of concrete they call a seat. Also, I ordered a manual idle adjustment from Bike Hedonia in Thailand. Relatively cheap and gets rid of the ridiculous idle programming on the bike (really, where do the engineers get their training nowadays?). IMHO if you are going to go 2-up you would be happier with the TW, otherwise, the KLX is a nice bike.

    I feel like these decisions will really come down to the individual. The pros and cons are pretty big but make a huge difference for what kind of riding you do. If you are gonna trailer it to trails I'd stick with the TW. If you want to do more on road riding to get to the trails I would go with the KLX 230 or maybe even the 300. It's probably a tough choice with out getting to test ride the bikes too. For me I love the low seat on TW but really wish I could go 60 with out red lining. But then again I love that I can crawl up a steep hill in first gear at near walking pace. The fuel injection is nice if you do a lot of big elevation changes, and a little more reliable as far as negligence goes (not draining carb for storage/ ethanol fuel buggering up the carb). I imagine the KLX suspension is probably better for jumps and faster trail riding as well. Personally I'll always keep my TW but I would eventually get a KLX or something similar, It would be nice to have that extra power for taking the roads up the mountain pass to get to the trails.

    • @MOBStreet83
      @MOBStreet83  Год назад +1

      You're right Collin, it does depend on the person. I am like you, I will always have my TW! I think the KLX is an excellent entry level dual sport to get someone in that style of biking. I am really interested to see how it'll do though.

  • @luvnotvideos
    @luvnotvideos Год назад +2

    Depends on what you want your 3rd bike to do? Are you looking for something that will travel a little faster on the street without having to switch sprockets? Are you looking for a more traditional setup? If so, that bike might be okay. The TW may not be fast, but it's unique, steady and reliable, plus will tractor up anything with the right tire tread. Everyone has a bike that looks like the Kawasaki. What benefit comes from buying the 230 vs any of those other small displacement bikes? Stick to your TW, change the sprocket to run a little faster at lower revs, put on dedicated street tires, and a fat milk crate on the rear and just use it as a grocery getter. Leave the standard bikes to folks trying to keep up with the Jones.

    • @MOBStreet83
      @MOBStreet83  Год назад +1

      Fair point! I really like my TW's and I don't plan on getting rid of them any time soon. There isn't really much difference between these and the other smaller displacement bikes. The only MAJOR difference I saw was the abs....that is the only smaller displacement bike with that, that I have seen so far. I'm not trying to keep up with anyone really, but I do need a third bike since my wife and I both ride and my kids are riding the bigger bikes now as well.....

    The TW is a great bike but the KLX 230 is better once you are in the dirt. What is even better is the KLX230r off road version with the aluminum swing arm. I went with the 230r and added the tusk enduro street legal kit, a gauge cluster, a polysport headlight, and DOT tires. Getting tags and inspection was easy in Virginia. I have the best of all worlds. Wet weight is 260lbs and even though it is geared down compared to the 230 I can easily get it to 65mph.

      The 230r has stiffer suspension with greater travel and fewer teeth on the sprocket. I’m 6’1 220 and while I can easily bottom out the suspension, if I take it easy and don’t jump it the ride is very plush. The seat is hard as a rock and I am looking into seat concepts options. Honda has a S model out now. The crf300ls seat height is 32.7, but once you put a couple hundred pounds on it I imagine it is a lot less.
    My dilemma is I have a Yamaha XT225. I was thinking of updating to fuel injection So my choices seem to be the Honda CRF300LS, Yamaha XT250 or the Kawasaki klx230s. The Honda and Kawasaki have a 6 speed, but the top speeds don't seem any higher than the Yamaha. I did buy a DR650 with a listed weight of 366lbs, but it seems big for trails really.
    If Yamaha made the TW with a few more CC's and fuel injected, I would jump on that. Doesn't seem likely to happen. Matt, I was totally in to the TW200 at first, I still love the looks of that bike. I looked and asked everywhere about it but I just couldn't find one for sale here in Sweden. The only similar motorcycle was the KLX230, and also the Honda CRF250 which was more expensive. So I ended up buying the KLX230. And although I've since also bought a KTM 350 exc-f and a Royal Enfield Classic, I still love my little KLX230, on which I ride to and from work (when it's not winter), and often take out on daylong summer adventures around the county. Though I still keep wondering - "... what would the TW200 be like for me?", I'm still secretly curious about the TW200.

      Yeah, I wish it was more of a global bike so everyone could enjoy it also. I did enjoy the CRF250L when I had it here, all except the seat. I do love the engine and the transmission of the KLX. I just gotta see what I can do to make it a bit more "Me"!

      @@MOBStreet83 Haha.. well, you'll get used to it! Ride it stock for a while, then later consider what details really concern you, and see what could be done. You know the KLX is not the TW, the bikes should be different, the differences are what made you buy the KLX. Think about why you're curious about the KLX, what made you interested in it. I think you are a very lucky guy having the opportunity to own and compare these bikes on the same day. Kind of makes me wish I had two arses just to be able to ride both bikes at once ;)

    I like the Cadillacs. I commented before I thought you were getting the Yamaha XT. The Cadillacs is good it’s more of a dirtbike for sure.. The only thing I don’t like about them is the seat to where the XT still has the old style seat kind a like the TW which motor crossers don’t like because I guess the skinny seats are better for standing up but I don’t stand up a lot when I ride, I’m old and would rather have a cushy seat. 😅. Kawasaki calyx and kale are always been really great bikes, Kawasaki builds a really solid bike without crazy technology but just enough to keep it nice and functional but they’re very tough and will last forever. If it’s just cruising around town and you’re not doing motocross I would look at the XT myself because it’s more comfortable bike that Kind of in between that and the TW really and for me I’d like that better because I’m not really too concerned with the motocross side of it. I want to bike that’ll go in the dirt but I’m not gonna go crazy with it anymore but I do love the Kawasaki‘s they’re very well-built and it’s a very good compromise and balance between a dirtbike and a dual sport and the dirtbike guys love them and if I was riding more dirt I would definitely want it. But Kawasaki is a great company, then again so is Yamaha so there’s that. Honestly all the big four Japanese companies are great but the K Alex/Taylor series have always been amazing bikes for decades. People love to hate the KL are 650 but it’s an amazing bike and the calyx is kind of a little more dirt oriented smaller sibling of that so if you like it it’s gonna fit you for the style bike you want I say grab it because Kawasaki is great. I’m an old school Honda guy but Kawasaki was always pretty close and then Yamaha and then Suzuki and they’re all good but Kawasaki builds them tough and they’re not as nice as a KTM or something but they’re pretty darn close and that bike will probably last you the rest of your life if you take decent care of it, they’re really well-built. Hey Siri write it for a while though because for me my butt would have to make the decision because I find those seats very uncomfortable😅 and if I was going to go for that style of bike I would look at the CRF 300, it’s a tiny bit more money but it’s pretty amazing I just don’t like the seats so for now I’m kind of a Yamaha XT fan it’s a mild dirtbike with the nice soft cushy seat it’s made more to cruise around on as opposed to motocross but if that style a bike is what you’re looking for the KLX is really nice and they been making them good for years and people love them once they have them if it’s what they want.
    This will be fun I’m kind of behind on RUclips so I see you’ve got three other videos after this so I don’t have to wait to figure out what you do😅

      Yep, I went with the KLX and I am pretty happy with the motor and the transmission. So far I am still really comfortable on my TW off road so it will be and adjustment to the KLX. But, I have a dozen more videos planned so it'll be a good time for sure!

    • @ShaneZettelmier
      @ShaneZettelmier Год назад

      @@MOBStreet83 yep they’re a little different. From writing standpoint I like the calyx better but the TW is just easier and more comfortable. Check out the seat concepts options, I’ve heard they’re fairly comfortable and I think that’ll make a difference but that would be my biggest problem with calyx is that rockhard seat. Lol The rest of it pretty cool.

    I'd choose the KLX230s way over the TW200 just because the KLX has fuel injection. I have a 2002 Suzuki DR200 that I love, but every 2 to 3 years needs it's carb needs to be cleaned or rebuilt yet again, even though I put StarTron fuel stabilizer in it, and for storage not being used for 4 months, I drain the carb float bowl, or shut the fuel petcock off and run it dry, and put Sea Foam in sometimes to keep the carb lubed. The carb was rebuilt again just 3 years ago, and it's messed up again, needs another $250 to $350 shop charge to fix the carb again. I've had enough, am soon buying a Kawasaki KLX 230 s and my favorite part is electronic fuel injection, no more dam carb problems !! And the KLX had a fuel gauge, and 6 speed transmission. Most of our carb problems started years ago when they started adding ethanol to our gas.

      Yeah, the KLX230 does have fuel injection but it isn't adjustable which really sucks. It has a really high idle and coming down hills trying to go slow you can't use the gears at all to help slow you down. I have yet (fingers crossed) to have any issues with the carb on the TW200

I think these dual sports and ADV bikes are designed more for street use these days. I decided to use the street as little as possible, these people are trying to kill me. I like registered motorcycles because you can ride them in National Parks that forbid atv use. Also you might need food or fuel and need to use the street.
