I sell luxury bronze hardware and have been trying to resist this as I also own the brass. There is a softness in the hand to bronze that is hard to explain. People are asking why the big jump price. Bronze is harder to work with than brass. You can stamp brass, where bronze usually needs to be cast. Thanks for sharing! I am visiting in Tucson this week and loving the weather and food.
It cost more because it's a limited edition, not because it's harder to work with. Plus the fact that the price of the Brass Sport jumped as much as thirty dollars from many sellers, so the Bronze took the same jump.
Brass = alloy of copper and zinc. Bronze = alloy of copper and tin. It's true that bronze is somewhat less ductile and malleable (and requires a higher melting point) than brass, but BOTH alloys require a casting process, and in fact I'm sure the machining/manufacturing process of both versions is the same. This large difference in price (quite high: almost triple) of the bronze version, therefore, CANNOT be justified in any way by a difference in the cost of raw materials (tin is not much more expensive than zinc on all in these small quantities), nor because of an extraordinarily more complex and expensive manufacturing process, but simply because it is a series or special edition compared to the brass version, which is not. In short, because Kaweco feels like it and wants it that way. That's all. Period.
Happy for you. My favorite part of brass and bronze -- any metal I guess -- is the way body heat is conducted in both directions, and these friendly little pens are changed by us, and vice versa. We're both scratched, dinged, bruised and oxidized by life. Both reflect how we've been used, too, from newly unboxed to ancient and mellowed by age. Hard for synthetic polymers to compete.
It's costs as much as a months rent in India but now that I've seen this I think i need it 😁 One day it'll be me and my pens in a tent. Thank you for sharing, and love your aesthetic.

How splendid! You bring to mind one of the reasons for a collector to get a particular pen: the material. I have an ensso Italia copper with titanium nib. I think I'd love it just for the material, but how much more for the sensory aspects of it! Weight! Smell! (If smells are a problem for the reader, copper pens are not for you.) Initial shine evolving to personal patina! (Or, keep it polished.) And, the bounce of that nib! It will be a long, long time before I get a silver pen (talking to you, Yard-o-led!), but bronze, now . . . . Thanks for another wonderful review.
I had talked myself out of getting this pen. It looks just lovely and now I imagine it building all the character that my brass one has built. Eventually I will succumb to the rose gold one as well. They all look so beautiful together, I can't help myself. Thanks a lot!😉
I bought my brass sport based on your videos Alicia and it is my favourite fountain pen. I now have the steel and I believe there is a bronze baby in the house that I will be receiving later in the year! The last couple of plastic sports I received have had pretty much perfect buttery juicy nibs, I think Kaweco have upped their game with nibs either that or I have been very lucky! Enjoy your pen I can't wait to get mine!!!

I just ordered one last night (F). My first fountain pen and I’m not a collector, so it’s going to be my utilitarian non-plastic pen for a lifetime. I’ve used a fountain pen before, while in college years ago in music orchestration composition class. Bought this mostly for autographs and business signings. 🎶
I use both, I like the look of the bronze better, but I like the feel of the brass better. I changed the nib of the bronze one for a gold one and it makes it look 100 times better. I cannot decide which I like better
Terrific video. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I have and love the Brass Sport. It is my daily pocket carry and “Travel Pen”. Like you I had a bit of FOMO since this is a limited release. I’ve heard that the QC rejection rate is higher on the Bronze due to the difficulty of the material, thus the higher price and the limited release. I’m hoping the bronze patina will be more interesting than the brass patina. I do REALLY enjoy your videos. Loved the appearance on Hemingway’s channel. I’ve followed you MUCH longer, and it’s interesting to see two people I enjoy listening to get together for a conversation. Loved the oil lamp video BTW! Take care!
I have the brass version and absolutely love it. The weight as it settles into my hand, the crisp line on the page, and it’s rugged good looks and charm. I will keep telling myself that is enough, but we all know it’s just not. Thanks for the review and soon I’ll have another lovely pen. And thanks for your Pilot Custom 823 review. It’s still my best writer.
Love this review and video. You are killing me with this though; slowly breaking down my defenses! Can just a bit more copper make that much of a difference? Evidently, yes! Wonderful video. Thanks!
I was waiting for this video to come out! The Bronze Sport is amazing! I returned the Brass as it felt too heavy but somehow this one doesn’t bother me. It’s also my favorite pen too. Glad you enjoy yours!
I ordered mine today. I already have the steel one. They’re lovely little pens. I might end up getting the brass and alluminum too if I see them on sale. I’m glad you’re happy with your purchase.
Your videos convinced me of 3 things. 1. I needed a Kaweco sport 2. I needed a metal Kaweco sport 3. I needed the bronze Kaweco sport. So I ordered the bronze today and I’ll have my first Kaweco sport soon!
I love my brass sport. I bought it off eBay, it has a nick on the cap and I adore it more. I don’t think the seller knew I’d love it so much. It was never mentioned in the listing. I fell in love with the brass from your video. I’m still debating about this one. It’s the price mostly.
Love that there are so many metal Kaweco fans in the fountain pen community. For me, I can't deal with the metal smell on my fingers so I stick with the resin versions (Liliput in green being an exception). 😊 My partner really loves his brass Sport and Supra though. It's great to have so many choices of form and materials to love. 🖋️😍
Darn it, now I want it. Because of you, I got the brass one, which I wasn’t going to get, but glad I did because I love it! So maybe, maybe I might treat myself to this one…….maybe. 😃
I really liked your appearance on Hemingway Jones' podcast. I am a fan of your channel. I got into fountain pens partly because of you. Thanks again. Did you enjoy your participation on Hemingway's podcast?
Great liitle pen. my Brass sport is one of my favorites too. The only thing i do not like is the metallic smell that leaves at the hands. Does the bronze has this metallic smell in hands? thanks!
The raw aluminum is my least favorite, but it's just as good a pen as the others. For me, the Brass with a gold nib is my favorite, the Brass with a steel nib is second, the steel is third, the Bronze is fourth, and the Aluminum is fifth. But all of them are excellent pens, and it's just personal preference with the metal. I will say that I prefer raw metal, regardless of the pen.
Got mine as soon as it came out. It is gorgeous and I prefer it more than the brass too. Also, lucked out in Kaweco nib lottery to have a darned near perfect EF nib.
Thanks, enjoyed your overview. I was slightly stunned to see you writing with it unposted! I guess you're about pixie sized! I have a few Kaweco sports (I like the aluminum Golden Espresso) that are coming back in rotation now that the weather's warmed up (smaller carry).
I have the Kaweco brass Supra and love the weight and the patina the pen is developing. The medium nib on my Supra is really smooth and wet (which I love, but I have to write a bit larger for legibility). Perhaps I'll swap it for a fine and try the Bronze Sport while I'm at it!
Such beautifull comparison. It also appears to me that the bronze one is the most beautiful. But, all of them are really beautiful. I think bronze is quite sensible to scratches, and I suppose it will get patina over time.
It is beautiful, but wait a month or two. I'm not a big fan of rose gold on pens, so Iprefer the look of a new Brass over a new Bronze because the Bronze reminds me of rose gold. But the patina is why I love the Brass Sport, and it just feels better in my hand. But I love the way the Steel Sport feels, too, and I love its industrial look.
Ha! You did get it after all. I love mine and it’s so pretty. I use both the brass and the bronze Kaweco pens pretty much daily. And I got the bronze clip for the bronze pen.
I am a huge fan of these pens, I love them all. I like the Sports for their diverse color selection; the AL Sports for the added weight, special edditions and the matte finish; and now the Bronze Sport for the added heft, look and feel. Just a beautiful pen. I am curious, are the threads on your Bronze Sport sharp? I don't own any of the other pens shown here so I don't have anything to compare it to. All the threads on the AL Sports I have are smooth. Just wondering what the threads on the metal pens in your video feel likw, are they sharp? Are they all consistently sharp? I hope they will smooth with time but I just don't know. It's the only thing I don't like abut this pen. I am a fan of your channel and really enjoy the content, mostly here for the stationery videos but I like your other stuff as well. Take care!
First, I love your videos. I've purchased inks and traveling journals you've recommended, but I have not yet purchased a Kaweco. I recently bought a kaveco sport bronze and i found tha the insignia at the cap is playing slightly when i put it on the pen. It feels like it's a little loose. Does any sport of yours does it ? Thanks in advance.
Hello! The finial insignia? I’ve never experienced this! How long have you had the pen? I’d reach out to the company you bought it from, it shouldn’t do that. >.< And thank you!
Thanks for the quick reply. I have it for a day only.... Anyway i contacted the shop and they will replace it. It's awful when these things happens but that's the warranty for. Keep up the good work.
This is the strangest question about both the bronze vs the brass. Does the bronze have that metal smell to it? I know the brass does but I wasn’t sure about the bronze. Thanks!
I'm still a fan of the Brass over the Bronze. I also like the way the Brass Sport looks and ages more than the Bronze, at least so far. I actually like the Steel Sport a little more than the Bronze, at least where writing is concerned. Though I think has an industrial beauty, as well. But I like all the metal Sports. I almost didn't buy the Bronze because I do think it's way overpriced. It cost no more to make the the Brass Sport, and the cost is only because it's a limited edition. Abyway, we all have our own favorite. I have two Brass Sports, one with a steel nib and one with a gold nib, and none of the other metal Sport rise up to these for me.
I love the materials for these metal pens; I just wish I liked the style. The aluminum one I have (in iguana blue) is gorgeous. It's just not comfortable for my hand. :(
do you actually recommend the Kaweco Sport in general? I want one so badly but I’ve heard a lot of bad stuff about them and I don’t want to buy something I’ll hate
The plastic sports are not great, the metal sports are completely different, much better nibs and writers. The metal pens are more money, but have better nibs and worth the extra money.
I have several plastic sports and love them. I feel I can take them anywhere because they’re light and (relatively) inexpensive. I love my brass Kaweco too. I want to try aluminum next.
I have a brass Kaweco Sport. I love it, because of its utilitarian looks, nice writing (maybe I got lucky with the nib), and the weight. I had a Namiki Pilot that was brass before, and I was trying to replicate the heft. I have big hands, and so it would be nice if it were a little bit longer, but I still really enjoy it. I don't write all that much and never for a long time, though. My sister-in-law found it too heavy --- she will spend hours writing and drawing, and she finds the heavy pens tiring to use. Good luck, whatever you choose!
That's all. Period.
I really do not understand. I own some of these alloy Kaweco's and their nibs are terrible. Really terrible. I know you own some of the greatest fountainpens ever made. So now i am wondering: is it just my 3 Kawecos that suck? For real: i consider them to be my greatest misbuys (if that is a word)
I'm the same. I've got 4 Kaweco Sports, one of them is the steel one, and they all write terribly. They are so dry and scratchy. I've tried adjustments to the nibs but it hasn't helped much. I wonder if I just got bad ones with how much other people love them.
Echoing the others. Kaweco nibs are inconsistent! I have some that write beautifully and others that are pretty bad. At least with the sports it’s easy to swap them out for a new one!
In the past, as in 5 years ago or there abouts, I found their nibs sooo inconsistent and horrible! But recently, I’ve been so happy with how great the nibs have been! I heard they switched to just one supplier, rather than using multiple. But in your case, I have no clue what’s going on. I’m sorry you’ve had such trouble, that’s no good at all. :/
I was surprised by the price point. A $200 fountain pen with a steel nib. I normally expect a gold nib at this price point. The bronze body must be more valuable than brass or something along those lines. Your whole collection is beautiful together, that's for sure! 😊
@jamesaritchie1 ok that makes sense. I missed that bit of information. I avoid the hype of limited edition pens especially when pen companies are turning them out on a consistent basis just to make a grip of money. To each their own.
@@adventuredenali It's ok. By spending on the Bronze I could not justify spending much more on the beautiful Raden and Urushi Ikkaku pen Nahvalur put out. So you "saved" me money, I guess. lol.
I am happy that people like and buy the pens they love. The more fountain pens are sold helps us all. But I cannot understand the attraction to Kaweco Sport pens. In my estimation they are ugly to the extreme.

The bronze doesn’t really have much a smell to me. If it does, it’s way more subtle than the brass I’d say.
@@adventuredenali thank you so much! That’s the only thing that bothers me about the brass.
Hi, Just wondering if you have settled on an ink for your bronze sport…ancient copper?
Do you post these?
I've refrained from these because of the low ink capacity. May I ask, what is the optimal refill for it? Thanks.
Well, it is different enough to justify it in addition to the brass...it almost seems like a soft or muted gold.
My fave pen! ☺️✌️💚🖋️
Wahoo!
I love the materials for these metal pens; I just wish I liked the style. The aluminum one I have (in iguana blue) is gorgeous. It's just not comfortable for my hand. :(
Aww that’s a bummer! No fun to write with something uncomfortable.
do you actually recommend the Kaweco Sport in general? I want one so badly but I’ve heard a lot of bad stuff about them and I don’t want to buy something I’ll hate
The plastic sports are not great, the metal sports are completely different, much better nibs and writers. The metal pens are more money, but have better nibs and worth the extra money.
I have several plastic sports and love them. I feel I can take them anywhere because they’re light and (relatively) inexpensive. I love my brass Kaweco too. I want to try aluminum next.
@@rebeccac4751 thank you! I love the look of the sports, just wanted some input.
@@michellel1632 thank you! What colors do you have if I may ask?
I have a brass Kaweco Sport. I love it, because of its utilitarian looks, nice writing (maybe I got lucky with the nib), and the weight. I had a Namiki Pilot that was brass before, and I was trying to replicate the heft. I have big hands, and so it would be nice if it were a little bit longer, but I still really enjoy it. I don't write all that much and never for a long time, though. My sister-in-law found it too heavy --- she will spend hours writing and drawing, and she finds the heavy pens tiring to use.
Good luck, whatever you choose!
What’s is “different” that you like?
The feel of it, the visually lighter and pink leaning tones.
Do you use a Fine nib?
Yes
Holy s... it costs 190 euro when the Brass costs only 70 euro. Can anybody share why they have such a big difference in price please?
Omg now temptation! It is gorgeous! 🤤🤤🤤
Because Kaweco wants. That's the only explanation.
That's all. Period.
New favorite, until you get the Sterling silver Sport. :D
I watched the Bronze on the Internet a milion tiimes but it's still too expensive for me at this point. 😔
You might've gotten unlucky. My Skyline has a very persnickety nib, while my brass is lovely to write with.
🥰🥰🥰🥰
I was surprised by the price point. A $200 fountain pen with a steel nib. I normally expect a gold nib at this price point. The bronze body must be more valuable than brass or something along those lines. Your whole collection is beautiful together, that's for sure! 😊
It's a limited edition. This always causes a big price jump.
@jamesaritchie1 ok that makes sense. I missed that bit of information. I avoid the hype of limited edition pens especially when pen companies are turning them out on a consistent basis just to make a grip of money. To each their own.
I don’t need to spend more money. … … … yeah. I might need it.
Ahaha you might need, it’s true >.
Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin, whereas Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Who knew, learn something everyday.!
Yeah! :D
Well I wasn't going to buy another pen this quarter, but here we are. Sigh.
Haha oh no! 😂
@@adventuredenali It's ok. By spending on the Bronze I could not justify spending much more on the beautiful Raden and Urushi Ikkaku pen Nahvalur put out. So you "saved" me money, I guess. lol.
@@liamstrain haha I guess that’s a good thing!
Pocket clips spool the profile of these Kaweco…ditch them.

I am happy that people like and buy the pens they love. The more fountain pens are sold helps us all. But I cannot understand the attraction to Kaweco Sport pens. In my estimation they are ugly to the extreme.
maybe you can use it to fix your hair
