“Maybe I should have just crawled around in the mud”!!!
Curtis, you’re one in a million.
Your attributes are unmatched!
You’re Truly Honest, Patient, Caring, and a Total Beast!!! You definitely deserve more than twice your pay scale.
It’s Guys like you that make up for all the other incompetent workers in the world - and believe me, theirs Not many of YOU! Love your Awesome videos… Keep up the Great work!
Lol, "That's Lovely " ! I have to hand it to you Curtis, you definitely have more patience than I would for the situation you were in under that trailer with water still trapped in the unit.
Curtis don’t keep your field piece guages with pressures in them. Mine blew up in the van from the heat
That ain’t good
Those really should be a floor, wall, or ceiling access. But then again trailer homes have never been built with maintenance in mind.
Ohhhh it's one of those where the AC mini split system is in the belly pan buried inside the insulation. That's going to be an expensive fix for that customer because all of no more than what was cut away the entire belly pan slip and insulation will have to be replaced because now the vapor barrier has been broken.
Have to say it, you have BALLS! I would NEVER crawl under a mobile home, in Georgia, just because of the snake skins you pull out of condensers!! I hope you carry extra clothes for when you wet yourself doing that 😂
People in the trades and with REAL JOBS are UNDERAPPRECIATED! 👍
My career was all commercial and a lot of time in140 degree heat on rooftop units. I would take that any day over crawling around in some of these places Curtis. You're a better man than me. Thanks for the videos!
i see what you doing but at the same time i'd take rooftop at the same temps over most attics that easily hit 170+ down here
also down south i'd take a crawl underneath a mobile home over long attic crawl easily due to the ground being cooler. Albeit I wouldn't touch a system like this as it's a stupid install, as he agrees, but i digress.
Dam, been doing hvac 30 years and I’ve never seen anything like that in a mobile home. Ya I’ve been commercial for 20 years but dang man, I’m flabbergasted
Should rename this one, So ya wanna be an hvac tech..... Nice one.
Wth. I will do things that most guys won't because I am a smaller guy, but that...I don't know. I understand the designer wanted to sell as much usable floor space as possible but this is not the way to do it. Everything needs to be serviceable for all trades and SAFE to get to. Why is this not a thing? It's 2024.
Hope that was your only call for the day. How can we all buy you a much deserved beer?!
Your comment is thanks enough
WTH
What engineer came up with that ?? Havnt run across one of these yet and hope I don’t!
Well done Curtis, that sure was a confined fiddly spot to work under 👍 Au
i didn't even know they hide them under trailers like that, that's wild. No thought of the service guy. If they're going to do that at least put them by the entrance.
some jobs you just say...no thanks...call the big outfit... that's the beauty of being a sole propriotior
You need to give yourself a raise!!! a lot of techs would run from such a mess, good job man
Been under so many manufactured homes and this the first to see ducted mini split A/H
Thanks Curtis. I'm only a DIY'er but I've learned a LOT from you! Particularly regarding determination, grit, & drive to do a good job even in the very worst of circumstances. Many, many thanks!
This is why u make the big bucks... crawling under that tin can getting wet and dealing with fiberglass insulation. It just sucks full stop.
This customer has to be family because there is no way the techs here in cali would get near this
So they just wrap the whole unit in fiberglass insulation!? Philip tip screws! SHEEESH... Curtis your a beast 👍🏽👍🏽
Kudos to you, I'm claustrophobic. There is no way in hell I could do that.
You should be on a Mike Rowe's dirty jobs episode. I honestly don't know how roofers and ac techs do it. Hard working people for sure.
Good video, my mobile home has an hvac unit in the wall.
Curtis nice one its all about getting the results
Curtis ; Your an angel - I would not have touched that not even with 10 ft pole!
You should start quoting a crane to lift the trailer 6 foot in the air to work on these
What did I just watch?! 😅🤣
I don't know how you did it man
I would have walked away!
You’re killing it out there! 👍
You're a trooper, Curtis! 💪
You earned your keep on this job Curtis, that was horrible under there...
Nice work, i really enjoy watching your videos.
On that kind of unit you should have a liquid line port ontop of all the lineset connections just under the electrical compartment. Those two valves with schraders supply the whole headers for suction and liquid for the eev's behind the cover at the lineset connections.
I appreciate your work. 🙂
You might want to invest in a borescope so you can check out the coil without doing all that work. Also, why doesn't the drain pan have a drain?
Has a pump
Hats off to you Curtis. Great job!
Great Work!!
Thanks
I work on tons of ducted minis and also a lot of mobile homes but never the two combined… if this is the newer mobile homes it may be time for me to find a new career 🤣🤣🤣
That kid running up and down the place brought back bad memories of my first apartment over 40 years ago, the dad worked nights so mom kept the monster up so dad could get some sleep when he got home we never took a downstairs apartment again
Crawling under there was nasty. It's one thing to fix HVAC and another thing to fix a dirty mess. You're a tough guy doing some of that tough work. As I watch your videos I think I hope you're charging for clearing the brush away from the exterior units. I would tell the owners to have a landscaper clear all the crap away from the compressor or if I have to do it there's a $65 charge.
You can’t go off pressure with mini splits unfortunately. I’m assuming it’s a inverter system with EXV,s. Did you make sure the compressor was running at full speed? Did you check the evap fans? You should never just add refrigerant to a mini split, as they are a critically charged system. With the amount of water left over in the pan, it was probably a condensate pump issue or plugged line leaving the pumps. Mini splits are a pain to service and especially where those evaps where located. I would have walked away as well 😅
You're a lot tougher than me. I couldn't stand be under there. Great work ethic!
That’s a very complicated way to got a shower! Oh boy. By the way those isolations are a hell for your lungs. Take care.
Nice work Curtis.
Thanks!
Curtis, I watch all your videos. Who does the tune, at the last of your videos? I always turn up the volume then! What an awesome sound/ beat! Great videos! I always am learning! Thanks! Any spider bites? Snakes? Scary! Underneath these trailers!
Hey Curtis! Not sure if you're aware, but the two service valves up top are true suction and High pressure ports, They're also isolation valves for the system.
That looked like a mess; right then, and more to come in the future. Would it have been worthwhile to replace those Philips screws with hex-head screws, so there'd be no worry of them stripping out?
On most of those units, if you take the cover off there are liquid and suction ports inside. Some of them are a pain to get to. I believe it’s Lennox that starting making a little cover to access them easily. On the city multi and bigger units they have a “floating” superheat. I’m not sure about the small units.
Great job,Curtis!
I sincerely hope you’re getting paid well for that job. I would have said no thanks. 👍
Its part of 4 trailer parks I get all the work for, so sometimes ya take the bad to get the good
@@HVACGUYsomeone tricked you brother. There’s no good work in a trailer park
Hey Curtis how you doing man? I binge watch all of your videos sure enjoy them. I will say though that you have a lot more patience than I did... I'm sure there would have been an expletive or two. Or maybe you have them you just don't voice them? Either way just want to let you know I don't know why people don't like and subscribe your videos they're excellent and it's not like it takes any kind of effort I'm sorry that you have to go through this. I like all your videos you put in the effort you deserve to get paid for it. Take care of yourself I'd like to see you wearing a half face mask to protect your lungs from that crap that's 4 in from your face. Either way I'll talk at you next time keep up the good work
Thanks
Does any homeowner clean their HVAC vents or filters. My goodness they were plugged.
Oh, I heard that "beep"!
Good grief, I hate those kind of jobs, but it comes with the territory. That is just an awful setup and I know they do it all the time. They never look for down the road. I would rather have a package unit any day, or the regular home unit. Heck, in a trailer, I would rather have those "hotel" type units. You are a good man, and do great work.
The hotel units you're referring to are actually called ptac. Many hvac guys don't like working on those either.
Was hoping you would replace those screws with hex head.
That was my thought
Love your videos!
Btw I was first
That M12 is a little workhorse!
You are a better man than me😀
Sounded like an Infestation of 🦗Crickets 🦗 at this Residence. 😬👍
Hopefully you sprayed the condenser off two
I would had the original installer work on that 😅
I like that new camera setup. Did you say that was something new, maybe I just misunderstood.
Brother I fill for u one stupid idea putting this stuff under home been helping a friend out who owns a mobile home sails because he can't get help years ago miller made a coil that would go down in floor that was bad enough take some of these trailer manufacturers under these homes they would get the ideal
Those floor mounted messes are a stupid idea! Surely they ought to be able to mount the air handler in a closet! Service would be so much easier to do that way
prolly something about extra sq footage from not losing a closet to a air handler
There has to be a better place to put these things. The more difficult it is to access something the less likely it is to get serviced.
People will complain about the cost to service that system when the builder is responsible for putting that system in such an inaccessible spot. They gave zero consideration to servicing it.
yeah they build stuff like you are never going to work on it
Good job way to stick with it 👍
Thanks 👍
Have ur back always once a HVAC tec always a HVAC tec it gets in ur blood
I did drain cleaning and had to go under dwellings when it was 99 degrees, I feel for you!
This one could have been an episode of Dirty Jobs.
Love that show
Who in the world would stick that trash under the mobile home..? That is crazy..
Bored, sadistic engineers.
Cheap mobile home manufacturers(what warranty?). No drain/sump pump from the looks of it. Only mini split system that would make sense would be a wall or floor mount cassettes in each room but at that point, a traditional central system with floor supplies would be better/cheaper.
some ahole that will never see it in person
I'd rather spend an hour in an MRI machine than go into this environment! You deserve an ice cold beer after that one!
Next time you have to drop the drain pan out of that style of air handler, take a bucket with you and pull the rubber bung out of the gravity drain outlet to drain it before pulling the bottom panel off, even if it isn't over flowing from cutting the power off to it.
Ideally, don't turn the power off to the system to let it thaw, just switch it to fan mode, but people are dumb and can't be trusted to not switch it back to cooling before you return.😐
Most of that style of air handler I work on are in commercial VRF systems, so I have the luxury of being able to lock air handlers out of the cooling mode if I need to thaw a coil and still have the pump work.
Good idea
Man, that doesn't not look like fun.😢 What a great place to have to do some work on a unit.
Next time you want to make sure and bring your Swim Trunks and don’t forget the Goggles also. What a Freakin Mess. 🤔🙏
Seems like a very comforting place to work 😂😂😂
Mini Splits are great if they are installed by someone that knows what they are doing.
or worked on by someone who knows what they are doing.... Hmmm
Aaaaah the infamous chirp at the end... 😅
I prefer package units for trailers/mobile homes but the rare occasion we do mini splits it's not that ducted crap it's wall unit and run the line set out the wall and cover with line hide. Folks just being lazy with that garbage.
Hey you can't charge these by superheat or subcool on these. They're are strictly weigh in. They're variable speed compressors and fans.
Superheat and subcool don't mean squat
Don’tDon’t some have a charge mode, where the fan and compressor are fully on?
Into it at two Minutes twenty seconds and you can already see that the ducting has been assembled by a 90 day wonder.
I would turn down those wet, under the trailer, low crawl space jobs. In a few years you will, too!
Thanks god in europe you will never find smth like this. Such a mess to go in such a tight and dusty not to say more places.. You are brave :)
I can hear that smoke alarm beeping. I know the customer demographic 😂😂😂
Dem ceiling birds never stop chirping
All the time hearing them and it's mostly rent houses. Oh and imma be no on working on this one.
LOL, yeah, unless the battery is completely dead or no battery at all.
Yea I told him before he should carry 9v batteries because he gets more houses with beeping noise than any one else add it to the charge bam $10
@@rickbarnett9729 Good idea
Mini splits are the best
There are worse applications for that type of system.
I get the joy of trying to keep a collection of Daikin and Samsung mini and multi split systems alive at a cement bagging plant, with a mix of ducted and wall hanger air handlers.
The ducted ones can at least be effectively filtered, the filters in wall hangers are just wishful thinking...
Terrible mounting place, service charge should be higher, regular split/pkg systems should be the go to for mobile homes, mini splits are too problematic for a whole house application, need constant maintenance and parts hard to find, hell a window shaker cools better than some mini splits for a one rm application, just make more noise and consume more power.
holy mollie that's a lot of water
45 years in the biz. One of the biggest bags of poop i have seen. Hats off to your determination.
Have you ever thought of using an inspection camera on things like this. One 1/2" hole would tell a lot...?
He had to drain the water anyhow
@@michaelphillips8055 sorry, i wasn't clear... I meant that he could inspect the coil to see if it was clean/dirty with a inspection camera. You are right, the pan needed a draining/drain line. I'll now go crawl back into my hole...
I've never seen that type system
That’s a first for me too. It’s almost like some engineer sat around and thought to himself “hmmm, how can I make an already crappy mobile home air conditioning system even worse?”
They're called a ducted mini-split.
Our company installs them quite often here in Massachusetts. A pretty easy application to cool 2 or 3 rooms with one unit
@@Browner19 easy to install. Not easy on the owners' pocketbook. they don't seem to be very reliable. They are reletively new and there are already many failures
@@staind288 The explosion of their use in the US is relatively new, but they have been around since the 80's in much of the world.
Too bad most of the manufacturers have indoor coil leak issues worse than the worst years of Goodman, Lennox, and ADP combined though...
The smoke detector is back..lol.
Was the drain capped off? If so, how hard is it to plumb? Awesome work by the way.
No, it has a pump and has a drain line in the top
He said in the video that since he switched off the system, it couldn't pump because it had no power
I don't know, if you use the GE AC hoses and not copper, it can work mobile. But that's one experience, and if it needs to be fixed I can send my 12 and 16yr daughters and they can probably do it without my intervention at this point.
Yes they have no friends.
1:06 that is full of water that belly wrap is always been a terrible idea it fills with water and causes the floors to rot out when i was working in a court i would cut a slit in every single square to let it breath and let the water out 90% of the time every single low spot was full of water
what kind of psychopath came up with the idea of putting something like this underneath a mobile home? Even working drain lines or plumbing is nearly impossible under neath a mobile home! Honestly if my home came with that crap, first thing I would do is have it removed and a unit installed INSIDE like a normal human being with common sense would have.
Curtis, I have a question with a 4° superheat what do you think that the unit would be overcharged now I understand about your vapor saturation in years of a tech. I would think that you’d want about a 15° superheat maybe I’m wrong. I know many splits are critically charged, do you think you should pull out the refrigerant and see how much refrigerant was in the system? Or put in a fresh charge in . Do you think unit could had non condensables ? Love your work and your channel. Good job
I don’t understand the piping. How do you have two suction lines?! Are their two evaporators?
Great 🎉job... I personally hater these units when they are under the mobile homes.... like this.. also the float switch is always a pain in ass ..makes the unit stop and start all the time when drian is not flowing properly
Why a ducted mini split air handler under a manufactured home..? Unbelievable
Title says it all.
Thats Rediculous! Glad I dont see these in Cobb County Ga
Been there.... Not that bad.... I hope you made your money.
Nope not for me and glad I don't do Rezi and glad these were not there when I did. Id say new unit only on that situation.
Wow..that’s a shame..my new mini split has been doing great, and it’s 105 today! It’s really a shame because they should be the easiest and most convenient things ever, plus their efficiency…good product..poor placement/execution..
