A lot of other 'service based' RUclipsrs never show their comebacks, preferring to edit them out entirely. This gives the 'impression' they never maker a mistake and we all know that's a load of BS. You show your process, Curtis -warts and all- and also show how a business owner should handle mistakes. With honest and integrity to make it right! 😎👍

In this industry I see most people will not and do not admit to their mistakes, they will find any way to blame someone else or make an excuse. Nothing but respect for saying it could have been your fault! With my boss, I will just tell him Hey I messed up it was my fault I did this or that and he doesn't get mad cause I'm owning up to my mistake, unlike the others who I work with that never, never own up to their mistakes and my boss knows it. in fact, my boss had to let someone go this week because of problems like this. Interesting. The txv was new with the coil right. Moisture i think would plug the drier and show the same symptoms, but it would have to be significant moisture. was there a temp drop across the drier? If not the valve clearly wasn't feeding properly. the extra recovery was probably a waste but you never know, and you were doing right by the customer for trying. Great content as usual Curtis, thanks.

    • @HVACGUY

@HVACGUY ahh, I try to blow nitrogen through everything high to low. If it's restricted enough, you can see it sometimes with nitro and save yourself some time, but you never know. usually you replace the compressor, then find the valve that killed it 😆 but you can't help that, it's just part of the job sometimes.

I totally insisted on paying him for his time and costs. it is not your fault when so many things can be wrong at the same time and you only fix the one's you find at first. some problems don't show until you fix the others that mask them. great job! making sure your techs are compensated keeps them able to stay in business and that is the most important thing.

Thanks for being an example to so many. I am curious though, what would a repair like this cost? I don't know why, but my dad always taught us to spend time solving problems. I have had so many cases where I had someone fix stuff only to end up with more problems. As a result, I have a lot of trust issues and consequently do my own work - as much as I can. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your comment as this is the kind of service I would be happy paying for and trusting the technician. Thank you again Curtis.

There is a feature with the fieldpiece manifolds while performing a test tightness. Use your suction clamp on the suction line, and the manifold will account for pressure change caused by temperature change.
Use rubbing alcohol on the micron sensor. Swish it around. Dump it out and repeat.
You can perform a micron comparison test on an empty recovery tank.

Possibly shavings, contaminated refrigerant ,or carbon from un sweat? I do a lot of commercial and never ever un sweat anymore as it’s only served to cause me issues. Tripple evac that bad boy as well :)
You’re an incredible tech and keep up all the great work.

I use the Milwaukee pump with the half inch appion hose, same micron gauge, same appion core removers… I hit 1000 microns in under 2 minutes almost every time. I also close the ballast just above 1000 as well. Sometimes it struggles after about getting to 300-400 microns for whatever reason but more often than not it gets below 100 without a problem. I’ve actually gotten that pump to pull down to 19 or 20 microns. I believe it advertises 25

Wow, I was thinking this bill is going to break the bank as I was watching. They did get a new TXV not sure how much those cost but you know your customers better than we do. Thanks for sharing that with us.

I been having major issues with my FP vacuum. One system wouldn’t go down 1100m even with a triple evac. Took out my old pump and it pumped it down too 150m in 30min. Time to send it back for service

If a person could keep the tubes going up to your gauges it might keep some of the oil out anyway.

In most manuals for vacuum pumps, it will tell you to keep the gas ballast open till a certain micron. And then close it to have it go through the oil then. Read the manual of the pump so you know what it says for that vacuum. Rule of thumb is 2000.

did you run it in reverse before you diagnosed the coil? And you should get you a small turbo torch rig but buy the bigger head been an awesome tool for me for years and easier on the back in an attic! Also you'll burn less holes in the copper.

No, it was low, and I did a leak search, found a leak, then charged it. It stayed like that for 4 weeks and did fine. It only started doing this after I changed the coil.

Call backs are horrible but you learn from them. If bad TXV after coil swap. That suck especially on a package unit. The Rudd rheem line is famous for bad txv I include them with repairs it’s open all charge is evacuated I’ve learned

had a RUUD/Rheem 25 year old unit a wire next to the low pressure copper pipe i guess was rubbing and wore through the insolutation and shorted on the copper and caused all the R-22 to leak. 8 pounds of R-22 at $120 a pound. 🥶🥶🥶
