  • The IONIQ 5 N is an electric vehicle that was created to convince hardcore automotive enthusiasts that it's ok not to burn fuel. It simulates engine sounds and shifting characteristics that are so convincing, that you'd swear you're driving a gasoline-powered car. This is a cool car, for today, my concern is not only is this a gen 1 so you know it's only going to get better and hopefully less expensive. If you have disposable income then that's a different story, but if you're concerned with resale value and what's to come in the next few years, this may possibly feel very old by then. It is great to see what's possible though, it's just too expensive.

Good point, but thanks to over the air updates, a lot of these gimmicks can be updated over time.

It's a lot of money. Expensive depends on your frame of reference. For the performance, the FUN for drivers used to ICE, the space, the usuability and comfort, this is by FAR the cheapest car you can buy not in the least if taking in the very low running cost compared to comparable size ICE performance cars.
Will it even get cheaper in the future - long term? Probably. But that is valid for almost everything car related, again not in the least comparable size ICE performance cars that usually depreciate a lot. And everything gets better all the time, but that doesn't make this thing worse. When something is really good, the law of diminishing returns, the room for improvement, becomes less. You can appy this to all consumerism and I have some digital equipment that is ancient but objectively still excellent even if there are better ones today - I don't actually need or use the improvements.
Even seen as an EV, at least to me this brings sooo much more to the table then the go-to comparable option of the Model Y Performance, it easily justifies the additional cost.
A lot of money - but also a whole lot of car...
