I am reading the King James Bible which I find it very good . I read & meditate more than 50 years now. I was born again from an Idol worshipping Hindu family. It is so very sweet to me . I also share God's Word in local Churches . I am from Tamil Nadu , India.
It depends on what you mean by best. The NASB is the most accurate English word for word translation of the Bible. The ESV is much more readable but sacrifices word for word accuracy to better translate the meaning of whole sentences. The KJV has its historical importance and Old English style which some Chrstians enjoy even if it has flaws.
The NASB reminds me of the Greek professor who tells the student "OK, you've gotten it out of Greek; now, get it into English," which is the ESV, although I kinda lean NKJV, as I have a longer history with it.
The Amplified version is best imo. It explains the text. For example: if the Bible said " vanilla ice cream" the Amplified would say "ice cream a frozen dessert made from ice, sugar, cream, or milk and vanilla." It explains the text...

I used KJV only for for decades. It has an incomparable majesty to the text and by far the easiest to memorize. I now switch between KJV and NKJV, but favorite is KJV.

NKJV for me with resources like Blue Letter Bible to understand certain passages. Not a fan of NIV because it brings it’s theology into the text (too interpretive and not true to the text).
As a Beginner Find a BIBLE KJV BElieving Church and Learn from the Pastor and GO to BIBLE studies and learn from other Christians and Check what they all say by what the BIBLE says cross checking with the concordance. Go to Church Go to Bible Studies

My native language is Dutch, but I prefer the NKJV. I check the KJV too when reading, but that is more out of curiosity for the language/vocabulary use. When I compare with the Dutch version, I find - oddly enough - the NKJV better. The language in the Dutch NBG doe not have the depth that the English one has. I have refused to read the RC Willibrord bible (Dutch) because of my ex- RC background, but maybe I should start comparing and looking for the lies in the RC one....

I believe the best version in American English is the NASB. It is the closest to KJV without the Old English syntax and vocabulary. I suggest the NASB Ryrie Study Bible.

All Protestant Bibles are wrong, for they're not complete. The best and only version of the Bible is a Catholic Bible, such as the NABRE or Jerusalem Bible, as they are the complete 73 books.

I have the brand new Thomas Nelson NKJV Study Bible, it’s fantastic.
A lot of skeptics online will quote those "paraphrase" translations in order to make it seem like the bible says something it doesn't.
