I grew up in a Pentecostal church and had a prophet prophesy to me at the age of 9 years old that I had a lesbian spirit in me. I remember asking my grandma what is a “lesbian” after that church service. And the funny part is, this man was extremely feminine. He played the tambourine and all! I’ve been trying to reach out to him via Facebook to let him know he indeed could see the future bc I’ve been with my wife now for 13 years 🤷🏾‍♀️

Girl thank you for calling out the sexualization of young girls in Christian purity culture that none of the people calling lgbt "groomers" ever talks or thinks about. It's not that they're against "indoctrination" as a concept, they just want the "programming" to be THEIR responsibility alone.

This weird fascination with virginity is so weird to me. I am German and grew up here (though in the North) and my parents were open with me as I am with my kids. Who cares if they had sex or not? It doesn't change anything about someone's value.
If they want to have sex, they will. And I want them to be prepared with knowledge and contraception. We have a drawer in the bathroom filled with condoms, lube, etc. Everyone is free to take what they need no shame.
If they want to have sex I'd rather they do it in my house where they can get help if it doesn't work out how they want it (or, worst case, their partner doesn't stop).
I want my kids to be and feel safe and secure. That's my job as parent.

I remember I was once on a mission in my local city where we would evangelize to strangers and I was a teen (maybe 14 yo). I was told by the older woman in charge that I could not go out with them that day bc I had holes in my pants near my thighs. These were very small holes in my jeans and were from regular wear and tear. My family was super poor at the time and they were literally the only jeans I owned. This lady called me out in front of everyone there and publicly shamed me for something that was not my fault at all. She said they were inappropriate and would send the wrong message to people and I wasn't allowed to go with them. I just remember how terrible I felt and the shame from that day. I just cried in the bathroom after everyone left.
The explicit misogyny and sexualization of girls is insane and I'm so glad I removed myself from that as an adult woman

Bizarre that I had almost the exact same experience! In my case it was school picture day at my baptist school. My mom and I had picked out the dress together and I was told by my teacher that my neckline was inappropriately low. They called my mom to bring me new clothes but she was not having it. The school refuses to take my picture in that dress so she took me home and we did a photo shoot together. I love my mom for that. Unfortunately, that experience and others at this school did leave scars that I am still working to overcome. I only started wearing crop tops and showing more skin in the last few years and honestly it is so freeing. I have dignity regardless of what I choose to wear and what I wear is my decision.

Even though I’m a Christian that’s always been my problem with church people. Regardless of the Bible it is not your place to tell people how to live or if they’re going to hell. And even if you do make suggestions, be kind. Most of the time they don’t make comments out of love, it comes from hate and judgement.

Chile I was at a Christian high school and I was in volleyball practice wearing Nike shorts and a tank top and the damn nurse had a nerve to say I was dressed “too revealing” because my shoulders were out. Meanwhile the basketball players were able to practice shirtless😑
They also tried to send me home from homecoming for wearing a long sleeve bodycon midi dress that was loosely fitting😒
And then they tried to hold my diploma because although my graduation dress reached my fingertips, the last inch of it was sheer🤦🏽‍♀️
Tbh I was much like you.. I wore braid + twist extensions, accessorized with jewelry and purses, and wore eyeliner and mascara when my mom finally let me at 16 lol
I just think half of them were lowkey hating and using the fact that it was a Christian school to harass me for looking good.

Ugh this reminds me so much of something I experienced just earlier this year at age 23. I’m in law school and I managed to make it all the way to the finals of this big moot court competition that’s a huge deal at my law school. I went to the reception for the judges in the afternoon before the competition and we were all just in our everyday clothes, so I had on a skater skirt and a crop top. My friend introduced me to the judge (an actual Virginia Supreme Court judge!) with “hi Judge, this is Sydney, she’s one of the competitors tonight!” And a professor of mine who was standing there POINTED ME UP AND DOWN in front of the judge and said “and she will not be wearing that tonight.” I was absolutely mortified. The judge didn’t say anything. No one said anything. We all just stood there in silence because it was so awkward. And it made it so much worse that the prof who said it was a woman too. I was so proud of myself for making it to the finals, and that one moment sticks in my head about that whole experience.

I've heard of pledging ones virginity before although I haven't had an experience that was so formal. There are a lot of strange things in every religion. When I went to my friends Catholic wedding, participants had to get on their knees (male and female) before a priest while he held this moving incensed object around. I was supposed to be a part of the wedding but because religious practices creep me out, I told her I'm a Christian and I don't worship idols so I can't participate in her wedding. She had already paid for my dress. Her family was pissed. I'm a strong believer of Jesus, but I don't like religion. I formally started going to church when I was 17 and there I encountered a lot of judgement and strange practices but I also learned a lot about God, the spiritual realm, the bible, community, and the true value of corporate worship. Alot of church people judge out of fear, and their own miseries, and they don't really know or understand the concept of the love of God. The church is filled with imperfect and broken people, just like our society. I've dealt with hurt from the world and hurt from the church. The only thing consistent is imperfect people.

I ironically receive more push back as an adult woman than I ever did as a child. I was free to wear shorts. Halter tops, skirts etc. and would receive many compliments or sexual advances. I grew up Christian, attended Christian schools and was raised in a suburban neighborhood, nothing about my life has been ghetto but as a black woman I am automatically assumed to be ghetto with a bad attitude who is overly sexy because of my shape.

(I'm a queer woman in a long term sapphic relationship, who has been rejected by "Christians" and "churches" in the past for things much more minor, like I didn't take communion once, when I was ten, and knowing that my caregiver was disallowing me to do so, an entire church full of grown adults turned their backs on me. Churches have somewhat of a responsibility to inform its congregation about this topic. With so many teenage pregnancies and what not, that camp's purpose was to teach young girls to save themselves for marriage. The topic of sex should be taught at an age to be understood.I was sexually abused at a very young age. Not knowing and too young to know what sex was/is. Even so, we perish from lack of knowledge. Everyone doesn't grow up in the same upbringing. Some of us was in foster care or in the children's home. Sorry you went through that. I hope you forgive the lady for that comment. Who are they? Most of these fools get out of church on Sunday doin straight devilment. That book has many Religion was made to control and manipulate our people. A lot of our people are in a choke hold over religion. Anybody stepping between your relationship with your spirituality is setting you up for a fall. Because it's their interpretation of the scriptures and who are they?? I hate that for you!!! Your sexuality is never going to stop you from the metaphoric heaven. It's people's actions and low vibrational behavior. That keeps them from obtaining the love and light.

If you want, though, there might be some gay-friendly churches where you live. I'm from Cleveland, and we have at least one here in the city. It might be worth trying out if you ever feel yourself missing church.

I am glad she was fired. I am so sorry you experienced that. Nothing was wrong with that dress. Plus you had your hair covering your back. That woman had an evil spirit. Those be the ones. Trying to represent something spiritual while being the most evil, mean spirited person. You don't talk to kids and definitely someone else's child like that. Behavior like that will discourage young girls from wanting to participate in those type of camps/events. I would prefer for kids not to be put on the spot like that about sexuality. I agree let kids be kids as long as they can be. Especially while they don't have that type of stuff on their mind.

I don’t know if any Muslim virginity camps (I’m sure we have something similar) but our clothes were always commented on. Even heels. We could be dressed head to toe covered up but if we wore heels it was commented on in the mosque. Girls were always policed and judged. Men and boys not as much. This kind of stuff and us going to hell for every reason is why I don’t really go to the mosque either. Like does God have nothing better to do then to police our bodies. Kids are literally dying out there and no one questions that but my wrists showing during prayer is gone send me to hell.

It is not the role of anyone other than a parent to parent someone else's child. If a child is following the rules, what right has a stranger to speak on said child? Because you are Christian? That is so wild. Parents need to be careful in what environments they place their children in. The intentions are well but even the Bible says you shall know a person by their fruits. Look at how someone speaks to a child. Are they kind, are they respectful, are they patient? If the answer is no, your child should not be taught by this person no matter what faith they are! People think they can speak to children anyhow but it is actually a child that we must be the most respectful to because they may even try to replicate you. In everything you do, do good!

    1. I had a virginity camp and ceremony at 14. Very weird.. the girls had to actually place the rings on each other. The girl I ringed had a baby the next year. So there’s that.
    2. A true Christian knows there is only one way to Heaven and that is believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that Christ is Lord. You will be saved..Periodt. There’s no award system, there’s no gold star club. Christians do too much with that, and it honestly confuses people who can be saved. We will never have enough righteousness to earn a thing from God, especially a place in Heaven. Ignore the comments, and keep your relationship with Christ, YOURS.

Let me tell you. I dont know if you will even see this comment but as a Christian I know that we can be very judgmental. But I also know that God loves you and that He is judge and jury. Also that last time I checked He was not hiring. We all are sinners know matter what we do. God hates the sin but he loves us. I say all this to say if you should decide to go back to church go with your head held high to worship God and not the people. Ignore them .

This is so upsetting to hear. I am Christian and I see a lot of other Christians and former Christians online talk about how the church scarred them with purity culture. I don't think I fully understood until you explained this I am hurt for you. (Perhaps it's a cultral thing? I am British and I see a lot of Americans talk on purity culture but not heard a lot of it here even though I have a kinda strict African upbringing.) Why are elders traumatising literal children? The Bible says there is power in the tongue. What business does an adult have telling a child you like a hoe? That is not on! The Bible also says parents bring up your children in the ways of the Lord. Your mum stood up for you out of her maternal love for you. But I bring up this verse because I do feel like in the black community, elders love to play the role of other children's parents. Your mum brought this dress from home. Children do not buy their own clothes. You and your mum were fine with this decision over the dress so the woman does not have authority to speak to you like that especially as she didn't even try to attempt to come from a place of love. Elders in the church need to realise the effect their words can have on people. She tried to shame you and I'm really sad that happened. God bless you and your mum. That was a nice dress and a good church would welcome you arms wide. Thank you for this video.
