Both are great. I was told since I'm 6'4" that a Road Glide would fit me better. But I just bought a 2021 Street Glide Special FLHXS 2 weeks ago. Just picked it up a few days ago and I love it. Fits great.

Its funny how everyone trys to make the street glide and the road glide different bikes. Its the same bike just different fairing. The frame and everything else is the same just the fairing is different. My self I prefer the road glide over the street glide because of the fixed fairing. Not having that weight to move around makes riding it a dream for me. I used to have a ultra classic with the bat wing fairing and I loved it until I rode the road glide. As my brother told me when he traded his 2018 street glide in for a 2019 road glide. He said like going from no power steering to power steering. Great video though I'm glad that you have the opportunity to go and take these test rides and let us know your likes and dislikes. Another great video. Thank you.

That's a good point. Both bikes have a 30 pound fairing but the RGS Shark Nose Fairing not being mounted to the forks will lighten that turning weight on the triple trees.

I rode an Electra Glide batwing bike for 18 years (still have it) and bought a 2018 Road Glide with the M8 motor. Biggest difference to me other than the point of view and distance to instruments is the lightness of the handling in the front end. The bike seems to turn quicker and feel sportier to ride. I have the Zippers Red Shift 468 cam and S&S cam plate in mine and did some other upgrades (Corbin saddle, amp & speakers, LED lighting) and when you twist the wick - you're GONE right now! I'll be retiring to Greeneville in a few years just down the road - maybe we'll see each other and I promise to wave! LOL

I'm 6'7" 285 lbs always wanted a street Glide . Tested a 2013 RG 30" front wheel, apes, bigger windshield, (yea its ugly but works) floor boards and foot controls moved forward and built for a tall man. I my love my 2013 RG custom. Glad you got to test it out if your wanna stop by I'm 615 too in the country though, hills and beautiful scenery everywhere. Pm me if your interested. Doing a ride to tail of the dragon in spring with a few peeps your welcome to join

Hey Travelling...just a few points for ya. Both compartments in the fairing are the same size. The USB cord in the right side where you put your phone charges it too so no need for the 12v outlet to be on that side. Furthermore, it's on the left by design to keep your throttle/brake hand free from messing with it should you use it as a cigarette lighter instead. There's a huge difference between the bikes handling n steering. I think the word you were looking for is "effortless" when it comes to steering. The inner and outer bat wing fairing with all of its gauges, speakers, radio, headlight, wiring harnesses etc attached to the handlebars are almost 71lbs. And to that you add the weight of the bars, hand controls and switch housings. All of that weight is fixed to the frame on the Road Glide meaning that all you're turning are the bars. None of the other stuff. To put that in comparison...hold a 35lb weight plate in each hand all day and you'll get the picture. Plus the bars on the Road Glide can be adjusted forward and backwards up to 3". I had a Street Glide and a Road Glide and have ridden both cross country. I'll take the Road Glide ANY day of the week over the Street Glide especially on a windy day hands down. And yes, you looked less cramped on the RGS. Come my son...come to the Shark Side!!!!!!

The Handling Is Better... More Storage As Well... RG Nation... I Think Tall Really Wants A Road Glide... Just Don't Wanna Give In... S I'm Talking About Ya Tall 😆😆😆 Come On Home Tall RG Nation.

I bought the 2019 RGS. Came from an Ultra and Street Glide. The biggest difference is the road glide seems to handle better at low speed. Also being taller it feels like I have more room.

I love my 2019 Street Glide Special. Not problems with the fairing and riding on the highway. I changed out the 3 inch factory wind screen for a Klock 7 inch smoked wind screen to eliminate helmet buffeting.

Thanks for showing some love to the Shark!! I absolutely love my 2017 Road Glide Special Milwaukee 8 107. I chose the Road Glide for the exact reason you mentioned, I am 6'6" and having the fairing away from me out front I feel like I have way more room. On the Street Glide I felt very cramped and didn't care for the fairing being "Right There". I find the Road Glide cuts through the wind way better as the Street Glide feels like you are fighting the wind more...Just my assessments. Anyway, thanks again for your test drive of the Road Glide and I did hear you say several times that it is a nice bike(Couldn't agree more!). I dig your Channel, thanks for making all of these videos, at the end of the day we are all Brothers & Sisters no matter what kind of bike you ride! Peace.

I like the look of the street glide over the road glide. From all the reviews I see it looks like the road glide has a bit better wind protection. I’m a Road King guy so to each his own.

  • @mikedanaher3413
    @mikedanaher3413 5 лет назад +2

I also agree with you T. I’m a fan of shiny paint and chrome. The blacked out specials don’t do it for me. I’m hopeful that Harley puts a option for a 114 in the standard models so those of us that like nice paint and chrome can get the bigger engine.

  • @us20riders68

    Hey tall,
    How are ya?
I agree with you on a lot of things about the differences between the street glide and the road glide. We rode a couple of street glide from Chicago to L.A. last July and not once on the 2,800+ miles journey did we feel too much air or any problems with the Bat fairing. Our arms and our backs were as good as on the 1st day after 7 days of riding.
I rented a road glide from Bootlegger at the end of October and rode it on Tellico Pkwy to Sweetwater, TN under the rain with about 45° and to Grimsley, TN the next day. I am 5´11 and I felt like I was getting a bit less air on top of my helmet on the road glide and a bit more wind/rain protection.
We are planning a cross country ride on Route 20 this summer, from Boston, MA to Newport, OR and I still can’t decide which ride to pick. I probably watched all of the "street vs. road" glide reviews out there and still can’t make up my mind. Some say the road glide standard is a bit sportier, some say the contrary. Some say that the lighting is better on the road glide, some say that with a day maker, the street glide is better...
I know you’re a street glide lover but which bike would you pick for a 3,365 miles road trip?
Hope to meet you in Knoxville this year and maybe go for a ride.

Road Glides are beautiful bikes. But then Harley Davidson Bagger style Touring motorcycles are gorgeous anyway. Fixed fairings are my preferred design and to me are rock solid. You do have more room whether perceived or not just by virtue of the design. Gold Wings are have always been fixed fairings and are renowned for their handling and comfort capabilities. You are absolutely right. Premium level bikes must have newest technology in LED lights. Great job Tall.

Had a 2017 RGS. Incredible bike. But could never get over feeling like I was driving a spaceship. Just rented a 21’ SG for a weekend trip. Love it. No spaceship feeling. Fits just right, I’m mainly looking at the rode over the closer fairing (FYI- I’m 5’8”). I’ve also owned a 20’ Road King standard and have a 19’ Heritage Classic. The SG seems to be the sweet spot for me.

No matter what, any handle bars on road glide look funny..
I'm old school. Never had wind issues with bat faring. And all the extra electronics, like traction control, PLEASE! 16 YEARS on a 99 ultra, the abs brakes was like learning to ride all over again. Harley puts to many up dates, Im on a 2014 ultra now with a 103,
stage one. I'm an old man, that's plenty for me.

Like you custom dynamics everywhere , windshield, rear bags plasma bars and directionals . Klockwerks sport flare changes the game on the roadglide if you have any
Buffeting . The phone side charges phone as you use it so the other 12volt is a nice second option . Great Videos as always have a safe day

Haha, great overview TT. I will have to give the Road Glide a test ride, but I have to say that looks -wise, I definitely prefer the batwing over the shark. I've sat on a couple Road Glides, and they feel huge to a 5'9" 185lb. The fairing feels like it sits too far back to reach, and I am also puzzled by the open space on each side which can't be closed. Seems like that would get cold in the winter, even here in Kentucky. I still like the SG better, though unlike you I don't like the fairing mounted mirrors at all--I think that will be the first thing to go for me along with that antenna. No excuse for lack of LED on a Special, either. Thanks for sharing the ride with us!

I also think a RG looks better with apes than the SG plus the bars are easier to install. I also felt more wobble over 100mph on the RGS until I upgraded the windshield, lowers helped as well. All just a preference, both nice bikes.

I’ve always wanted to get a Street Glide but after a demo on a Road Glide I was sold , now all I have to do is save all my pennies 😁🤙🏼

Tall, the RDRS comes on automatically. When you press the button, you get 'rain' mode. If you hold the button down, the RDRS can be turned off (but why would you?)
Coming from BMW and KTM, I gladly ponied up for RDRS.

The Road Glide is a new fashion. The best touring bike is the Street Glide. beautiful, and not only a fashion.

That color combo looks great on a street glide , I took the mirrors out of the fairing on my street glide and installed mirrors on the handle bars I like it much better ride safe

Great video! I've always coveted the Road Glide Special to add to my stable and love that color. I had an '09 Street Glide in Black Ice/Blue Ice Pearl and loved it! As far as the turn signal bulbs being incandescent is concerned, I think maybe it is a DOT thing but I'm not sure. One of my other bikes, a 2018 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S, also has incandescent turn signal bulbs although in the rest of the world it and all other KTMs as far as I know are equipped with LED turn signals. From a 6' 3" rider... Ride On!

Tall, my wife rides a '19 RG Ultra. She loves it. She says it handles easier. Reminds her of a Heritage. Look forward to the next video.

The handling is so much easier on the road glide, the batwing still looks better in my opinion and will always be my favorite

Both phone storage compartments are the same size. You can fit 2 Galaxy Note 10+ phones on the left side above the 12V outlet. I've only tried 1 phone on the right side.

Great job on this video...you made me research into a Street Glide, as I was sold for a FIX front fairing (Road Glide), and thought is is WAY much easier to ride, but guess not, after seeing how much you like your Street Glide...I need to ride both and see if there is a big difference. Thanks again.

I love watching your channel, you put out a bunch of great content .....I don't love seeing the handicap parking clogged up like that though.

If you get Paul Yaffee 12" monkey bars you can still use your factory mirrors without blocking them.

You take a Road Glidelide out for the week and you enjoy the fact there is no weight on handlebars. I road a Batwing fairing for over 14 years and never going back! Love my Road Glide!

If you go with 14" bars on the street glide you can keep your mirrors where they are

bodeans59 Yeah you look at them next to each other and the street looks better but then you ride them and the road is heaps better, then you think wait I ride it more than I look at it! But to me I’m Australian and think it’s great that they have these options depending on the person.
