My favourite band in my favourite city ... I'm from Brazil and I've been travelling for years (since 2007) and one of the highlights of my life was in this incredible city listening to No Line on the Horizon album all the time. Since then I came back to Morocco twice ... and I can't wait to return once more.
Sounds so much better than the stuff that ended up on the album, but they were afraid of sounding too 'world music' and not being able to play the songs live.
I so wish that U2 had stuck with their intentions for this album and worked more with the material they created in Fez, it could have been something truly spectacular if they had fully comitted to to the idea of what they had wanted to do and not got cold feet. I'd love to see an alternate version of the album come out some day using more of the Moroccan material.
I agree! Some of the riffs heard on several sessions were killer and didn’t even make the album! I hope they open up their vaults one day and release some of these songs from this era!
Agreed. I watched an interview with Steve Lillywhite. In case you’re not familiar, he produced on boy, October, war, how to dismantle an atomic bomb, Joshua tree, acting baby and even no line on the horizon. He was refreshingly honest. He pointed out that by this point in their career, they were so big and opulent that there was no producer who would look them in the eye and tell them “No!” about anything. Or give them direct feedback which would be difficult to hear for someone on their status. The work suffered as a result of it. As with any artist regardless of how brilliant they are, there is a skill or you have to keep them on task in order for them to produce their work to the best of their ability. By this point there was no one willing to do that. They called him in towards the end of the record being produced to try to fix it. It was a mess. I highly recommend the interview if you check it out.
THIS is better than the Whole No Line On the Horizon...Add in Edge's Extended Solo from the "Making of No Line on the Horizon (II)"-also here on youtube......and You've got the REAL Magnificent...but U2 are Afraid and Insecure !!!!! Bono : Don't fear the world, it isn't there !!!
Either it's because you can experiment with many different sounds on an electric kit or it's to help Larry's joints as the mesh heads on the Roland kits offer a soft rebound and they'll help with his physical problems he has after years of drumming

it's always been a great place for great bands such as rolling stones, led zep, and many others...

The songs seem to capture the location in these sessions batter than the songs on the album. I hope they release some later...

Interesting the lyric here was "Restart, Forgive Yourself". I actually like that better than "Restart, Reboot Yourself"

An incredible album in a incredible city ! Next time go to Meknes !

they admitted they left Morocco far too early... shoulda stayed another 4 months or so and truly commit to an experimental album.
Love the fast version of Unknown Caller at 3:11
Give us some 'Songs of Ascent' already!
You can still hear this version of Magnificent in Adam's bass right before the solo.
nice

why on earth is Larry playing electric drums? :O :(

U2 magnfifen
I wished they had kept some of the lyrics in Unknown Caller like it was done here! none of that "restart and reboot yourself" nonsense!
