  • This webinar covers the application of centrifugal pumps in the industries and the recent technological advancements in the centrifugal pump applications. Centrifugal pumps are among the most commonly used pump types in various industrial and commercial applications, primarily due to their simplicity, efficiency, and versatility. They operate on the principle of centrifugal force: converting the kinetic energy of fluid into pressure energy. Many centrifugal pump configurations have been developed for different applications, including single- or multi-stage, axial or radial split, and horizontal or vertical rotor position.
    Pump manufacturers and industries have continuously worked on improving the performance efficiency of centrifugal pumps especially in process optimization and cavitation detection. This webinar will cover current improvements in centrifugal pump design and applications which include the use of Internet of Things (IoT) to develop smarter pumps, use of 3D printing in pump manufacturing, use of advance materials in pump components and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) for pump design and testing.

    Presenter: Dr. Aravin Arumugam - EIT Lecturer & VET Program Leader
    Aravinthan Arumugam has 20 years of experience spread between industrial practice, engineering consultancy, research & development and academia. He obtained his BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering (1st Class Honours) and PhD in Engineering from the Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom.
    Aravinthan has been an academic in different institutions of higher education in Malaysia and Perth, Australia. He is currently a Unit Coordinator and Lecturer at EIT and teaches the units on pumps in the undergraduate and Masters degree. He is also the Program Leader for EIT’s Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
    Aravinthan’s research expertise and interest is in welding technologies. He is currently involved in research related to spot welding and friction spot welding. Aravinthan is also a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers IMechE (UK) and Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia.
