I lost my girlfriend this past June to alcohol.. she ended up losing her mind and also only weighed 85 pounds towards the end. Her family unfortunately gave up on her. Even her own twin sister! I tried to keep her with me, showing her love and compassion as much as I could. Was our third and last time together since high school. We made it three years this time. I miss her every day!

Lp

I am 60 years old and I so relate to Amy winehouse. A reporter once said that without alcohol or drugs, Amy was like interviewing a rock. I get it. Born in the 60s and by the time the seventies rolled around, I was the life of the party, but of course I was stoned, drunk. I get it. I was social when I was tore the hell up. Sober, I was quiet as a church mouse and as insecure as you can get. As was Amy. And she had a much bigger audience than I did. Bless your heart I get it. May you rest in peace and I hope your personality shines now. Much love Grandma Gia in the Ozarks

Agreed, I decided to close my eyes about half way in and despite her being ill with her throat/chest and the fact that she was all jittery and nowhere close to sober, her voice was still there and what I mean by that is that for her, singing was as easy as talking. I closed my eyes halfway through and imagined her in a big comfy chair beside a fire with a big oversized cardigan on, a blanket over her legs all curled up in the chair and a soothing warm drink in her hands as she bathes in cosy light from a lamp whilst just singing to herself with a smile on her face, enjoying her own voice alone while she heals. The ppl in the comments saying "how could those close to her have not stopped her?"...clearly you don't know a thing about addiction. You have to want to save yourself. It's the fight of a lifetime, it's not just a medical treatment. You have to want it in the deepest core of your being. Consistently. And then you have a chance.
Those who love someone with addiction often say that one of the worst parts is watching them die slowly, right in front of you. And it being out of your control.

She was famous, she was a beautiful artist in the industry, there should have been an intervention, but the dark world of entertainment harvests the need for mind altering substances to bandaid the stress and expectations of the artists at the demand of their STARDOM. Meaning the people want to see and hear her so let’s let her keep going because she is entertaining and making money no matter the personal status mental health and wellbeing of that artist. Can you imagine if she was a nurse or a caregiver, we worship those who struggle , yet ordinary people get through life , yes she was an addict. But do not turn up for work like this, compassion is important, reality is real. People paid to see her perform, she should have cancelled, she had the power, mental illness is heart breaking, does not get you a get out of jail card. And her defiance with this song, rehab, makes me feel kinda sick. Ordinary people suffer every day, she had the money to get help. END OF RANT . AND I HAVE COMPASSION.

Too much toxic love, compounded by drug use, to the point where they felt it was them against the world. I don’t think she would have listened to anyone.
Hearing her sing Rehab is horrific. You often hear the defiance, but also the regret in her voice. People singing along like it’s just a song, when it was her life.

@@itsjustme9354 thank you :). My drug of choice was heroin. I started super young at 16. Did everything though. Overdosed twice on xanax. Stopped the drugs and I, too, then turned to booze. The alcohol was just as bad if not worse. Get help while you can! I'll always have an addictive personality, but now I focus my addictions on fitness! I'm super into fitness and wellness who would have thought? The rooms of AA, run. Don't walk. ❤ good luck to you. We DO recover!

      angel nava
I agree. She might have at times had the help she needed. She made choices. At the same time she was sick/very addicted and these people should not have allowed this. She needed help then and there and they encouraged her to go on. She could not have fought this battle on her own.
I am amazed at how many performances she had done in this state, in her condition, but she was money to them, so she didn't get the help and support she needed. It's so sad.
      We Love You Amy!

and knowing how much music meant to amy (with how she talked about it in interviews) going out and performing like this must have absolutely mortified her. When amy was on top form.... well we all know she could match the best jazz singers of all time but this performance is so so sad. poor amy 😭😭. she was surrounded by people who were only concerned about her making money and not about her mental and physical health. very very sad. also while she's singing rehab and saying 'no no no' it's heartbreaking as it's so very clear to see that she desperately needed to go...to stay there and to get herself better!! hope mitch is pleased with himself that he chose back to black over his daughters health and well being!!

Caz l completely understand what you say. I had a brother with an addiction. I actually did keep him in house for 3 weeks against his will. As soon as He hit the streets right back again to alcohol. He was in lock up in VA hospital 3 times no help.He had part off his esophagus removed. once pronounced dead on the operating table and survived. He died from drinking. If someone does not want help, nothing will work. I tried four 6 years, I think it hurt me, mentally more than him.
who knows maybe they might of met in heaven?
