Maybe it sounds like it because the boombox 3 saturates the mic with the entire range of frequencies while the Xtreme has a similar sound profile to that of a Charge 5, so the mic can stretch a little bit more. Also Boombox 3 has a more linear and progressive sound, the Xtreme 3 has a more aggressively predefined "V" sound that I'm not sure if JBL already fixed with an update.
Yea you absolutely can, but I always buy JBL because those speakers are usually always well built, so with a screwdriver, a few steps, and a replacement battery (witch are also pretty much always available) you can give life again to the speaker and used it for years to come. For instance, the charge 5 uses the same battery construction that the charge 4 used, so... There's pretty much a lot of spare parts for years to come if JBL continues with this trend.🎉

Is it just me or does the xtreme sound sharper/clearer than the boombox? 😮
