A bit of trivia: The head of the Centauri in Cartagia's "shadow cabinet" (the one with the cough) is actually a cast of Andreas Katsulas' head. Peter Jurasik joked that even Andreas' severed head was upstaging him.
Optic Nerve used to use that cast to model other 'alien' make-up, so back in the '90s a lot of prostetics had an oddly familiar look. For example, search RUclips for Making Monsters with John Vulich (season 3). It's about Buffy makeup. Around 40 seconds in John's doing a segment and there's a very recognisable face on the top shelf behind his head.
The terrified look on Londo's face when he realizes the Emperor is more unhinged than he thought.
Time to give Kosh 2.0 the boot.
Gabriel was an angel once.
That one phrase - "you've never seen a Vorlon enraged" sent shivers down my spine! Loved it!!
The head on the table, that had a bad cough that they finakly cured is Andreas Katsulas, aka, G'kar.
This episode is one of the most subtle, in many ways. The interplay of knowledge and strategy between what is going on on both Centauri Prime and B5 is simply fascinating, and one can easily see how Garibaldi and Londo are concerned about the future based on the decisions of their respective leaders . . . Beautiful writing.
Glad to see you back! Just a "fun fact" - the head on Cartagias desk was molded from a mask made from Andreas Katsulas head.
Not only in your reactions, but I really enjoy your commentary; your analysis really is insightful, more than most that I've seen.
The head next to Londo (minister Dugari) is a cast of Andreas Katsulas' head (G'Kar)
"Oh, God - They're going to treat him like Jesus!" Sounds just about right.
"I call them my 'Shadow Cabinet' " Cartagia is the worst character I have seen (Joffrey comes close). Krimmer's acting is pitch perfect playing this totally unhinged character.
"... so we're gonna take out the Vorlon - any way we can" That sounds like a crazy idea, but then again, it is sort of a crazy sory - in the best possible way.
Cartagia is batsh*t crazy and a complete pyschopath. But you have to give props to Wortham Krimmer for doing an AMAZING job with the role. I mean, who would have ever thought there'd be a character you'd love to hate even more than Lord Refa, and arguably even more than Morden?
if you like a good villain to hate you should try the Expanse, they have a couple that are off the charts but in a different way.
Cartagia is litterally commodus if he was centauri
What happened to Leeta is basically what happens every time a new hotshot manager rolls in to take over in a large corporation. He could not give a shit about you at all, and slow just squeezes the life from formerly vibrant employees.
Now that you have watched the episode - here is a cool bit of trivia - one of the 'heads' in Emperor Cartagia's Shadow Cabinet is actually modeled on or molded to look like the show's creator and primary writer - J. Michael Straczynski.
Ah, yes... This is one of THOSE episodes. Loving your reaction, tis' a joy to almost behold it anew, vicariously; as always!
Welcome back. :)
It is just so unnerving to see this switch in the Vorlons. From not doing much at all to help the younger races so full out multi-planet annihilation. Now we're hanging some hopes on "Centauri Prime is too big for the Vorlons to attack"? Eep.
Also, how does Cartagia continue to become even more worrisome? We've seen him absolutely torturing G'Kar and still that's not the high water mark! What amazing characterization (writing, direction, acting... all perfection).
Comes back from Z'ha'dum and his first major action is to assassinate the Vorlon Ambassador. But hey nothing to see here, Sheridan is totally fine 😆😆😆
Vorlons be like: "We did not like that dck anyway so we wont come over blow up your shit."
Seeing your reaction to Cartagia, have you ever seen I, Claudius? I would say that John Hurt's performance in that may have been a bit of an influence on JMS and or the guy playing the emperor but I've never seen it confirmed. It's probably a show you'd enjoy
Cartagia is indeed batshit crazy.
I'm as excited for you to see this as I was the first time I watched it! And then you "End of part 1" me! BETRAYAL!!! 🤣🤣🤣
(just kidding, I love that you do multi-part reactions!)
Its always a good morning when I see another B5 reaction from you drop into my feed
I have a complaint.
I watched Babylon-5 from when it was first broadcast oh so long. And watched the boxed set a number of times, but the last time about 5 years ago.
because of your reaction videos I've started watching from the start again, even though I should really be doing other things.
[It's not really a complaint you brought back memories of good acting and writing which is rare these days.. thank you]
Ah yes, the old "I have obligations but instead I'm bingeing B5". I fell into the same trap last 2 days.
I feel the same way.
The guy playing Cartagia did such a good job with the role, much like Morden, characters that you absolutely hate, and hope they get what they deserve.
Apotheosis (n) :elevation to divine status :deification
All the brown organic matter hits the ventilation system.
You mean spoo?
The prefiguring starts to come to fruition in Season 4. In the Season 2 episode "The Coming Of Shadows", Londo has a vision of (then) unidentified ships flying over the skies of a then unidentified planet. We saw the same scene play out an episode or so ago. In this episode, still from "The Coming Of Shadows", Londo also has a vision of G'Kar strangling his older self. G'Kar is wearing a patch over one of his eyes...
Michael would *never* be Grumpy! Except...um....every waking moment of every day?
Someones about to trip and turn that dial up to 11 for a short while... actually scratch that, they already just did.
Good morning! So glad to see you! Welcome. I've missed this. Here we go!
Things are about to get messy!.... don't think the new Vorlon ambassador is the leave quietly type!! 😮
boom! caught up to you, rewatching from S1!
Did you ever watch The Tripods? I would love to se you do videos on that if you haven't already! Btw your box of delights reactions were gold! Such a loved series
As I curse anyone selfish enough to spoil this show for you, I have a confession. Watching B5 break you repeatedly gives me immense pleasure. We all cry at a lot of the same scenes, and your genuine responses make me laugh. I don't blame you for taking time off between episodes.
Was Krimmer in anything else,? He's like Daniel Day-Lewis level on this show.
He retired from acting after about 30 years, went back to school and became a lawyer
This is a show so good that I have to watch your reviews twice for your reaction cause i just get sucked in :)
Aaaaaa!! I was really into this story, never noticed the time.
That was quick 😂😂😂Great job
I noticed that there was an edit where the name of the episode is usually stated. I suspect that there was some difficulty pronouncing the word "apotheosis" (uh-PAH-thee-OH-sis).
Your reaction to the scene between Garibaldi and the doctor is so adorably innocent. No, there's something worse than being asked to cough that men have to start having done at a certain age. XD
Edit: Though, it occurs to me that it's probably not as bad as certain tests women need. 😨
So cool that Kenickie from Grease is in Babylon 5
The story behind that is even better.
Apparently the role was given to Jeff Conoway as a favor from JMS. He knew he had issues with substance abuse and it caused him to lose out on roles and work, so JMS created the character for him to play.
"Snicks?"
Things just escalate and escalate and escalate and now we're killing planets.
"I hate this guy, but he plays it very well" :D
"Snix?"
Yaaaas, reborn Sheridan.
Long live Citizen G Kar and the Narn Regime !
try not to think of Morden next time you order some crisps :)
Minister Dugarri was a bust of Andreas Katsulas, aka, G'kar.
Probably one of my favorite titles in the show (though the show does great titles)
I was always mad at Sheridan for acting like a dick to Garibaldi. Alot of grief could have been avoided if people talked.
Yay made my day
Great reaction
3:01 'Oqmritkz'? That's a made-up word.
