Walter Koenig's performances are always so memorable that you're left with the impression that Bester appears in far more episodes than he actually does.
"I'm thinking... pastels!" What a great line.
I loved how Medusa went from "the Shadows & Vorlons are gone, what's next?" to "this show always blows my mind".
And yes, the Keeper does look like a Dalek!
Iconic!
Anytime my wife asks me “what are you thinking?” My answer is always…pastels
I'm surprised that you forgot about the keeper that was attached to Londo in War Without End!
For me, G'Kar is the greatest character on a show filled with great characters.
G'Kar is quite possibly my favourite fictional character of all time.
He and Londo have the biggest arc if you go back and look at season 1 to what they became its crazy the change in both
@@wolf99000 And had Morden chosen differently their roles would have been reversed - Londo the religious prophet, G'Kar the reviled warmonger.
This is a fact.
I prefer Londo Mollari myself.
According to IMDb apparently, "The woman seen pulling Dr. Franklin on to the dance floor during the party is Richard Biggs' widow, Lori. They were engaged at the time this episode was being shot."
I think imdb is ever so slightly inaccurate. It is Lori - they needed bodies for the crowd scene - that look on Rick's face isn't acting. :) Rick asked Lori to marry him at Nexus '97. Which ran in July of that year. S4 was in the can and everyone was on break between seasons, unsure whether they even *were* going back. It was S5 which shot from late Summer '97. So, this scene happened before they got engaged. currybeast.com/nexus/photo97/proposal.jpg
@@user-kt7yn3ks8q ahhhh thanks for the clarification …. 😊
@@user-kt7yn3ks8q I always thought it was the one character from a previous episode that had only a year left to live and she was going to spend it on B5
They have similar hair so I can see why you thought that. But it's Lori. She's just being a random woman who grabs Franklin for a dance. No point bringing back an actual actress like Erica Gimpel a year later for a 5 second non-speaking role. Cheaper to have a bring-your-girlfriend-to-work day.
@@michaelarreola4201 so did I !
J. Michael Straczynski certainly had a knack of keeping the story line fresh and the plot of the arc moving. There is never a dull moment in the B5 verse.
10:30 Telepaths were Vorlon weapons in the Shadow War. In a way, so was John Sheridan, as their handpicked commander. I wonder sometimes, if his temper with Lyta was because the weapon wasn't doing what the commander wanted.
I feel so bad for the Regent; you think he's finally caught a break but NOPE.
Her pre episode prediction.
"I don't know how this season is going to progress."
First comment at seeing the first scene after the opening credits.
"Oh balls!"
"And so it begins."
I think the 1000 year cycle only existed *because* the Vorlons and Shadows were doing it.
And because JMS is hung up on the magicalness of "1000".
To quote Kosh, "And So it Begins" - and I keep saying that after each episode. This show just keeps getting more and more complex. I love watching it through your eyes for the first time. Your reactions just remind me of mine when I watch it in the 90s. This was a really good season, albeit it, compressed, because it was unknown if Season 5 would be renewed or not. It's still a brilliant show, and just gets better with each re watch (it's been at least twice a year since it originally aired). And so it begins again :D
The Minbari are the oldest of the younger races.
With the first ones gone, The Minbari are now the big brother of the Galaxy!
I have recently started reading The Silmarillion and have read most other books from JRR Tolkien and the amount of LoTR references in the show is quite surprising (to me at least).
The Silmarillion is fantastic.
Enjoy!
JMS is a huge Tolkien fan.
Yeah JMS was always up front about the influence of Tolkien on B5.
Don't thump the book of G'kwon,
Garibaldi's chest on the otherhand....
Just when this show gives the good guys a victory, the next sets up even more sinister goings on!
Naturally Clarke is rattled, having just lost the support & power of shadows at his side, so now he's stepping up his campaign against B5!
Remember Mordens last words to Londo..... 😮😁
9:14 I guess that is what it looks like when the Shadow planet killer is employed without the cloud obscuring the planet.
Love that your reaction to Babylon 5 is the same as mine was. In all these years since it aired I haven't met another person who enjoyed it as much as I did.
Morden was dealing with Earth way before he approached Londo. Remember the video of VP Clark that Susan saw in the Great Machine?
Well, Signs and Portents was in the middle of season 1, about half a year before Crysalis, and I don't think we can make any judgement for how long Morden had been dealing with Clark before that conversation...
I haven't stumbled over any actual timeline of that, even in the three trilogies, but if you have, I'd love to know :)
@@Wolf-ln1ml Who do you think got Morden the clearance to interview all the ambassadors in Signs and Portents in the first place? He sure as shit didn't get it from Sinclair, so it must have come from higher up, meaning he's been working with Clarke for some time already before that point.
I could be argued that Earth was touched more by the Shadows than Centauri Prime.
True! But I think Earth might have managed to keep its ties to the Shadows a secret from the Vorlons. The Shadows planned to put human telepaths in their ships so they never encouraged Earth to go to war with anyone. Instead Clarke has been pretty isolationist. (I can't recall how much of this was relayed to Kosh.)
@@RectPropagation Humans where also more subtle than a mad emperor and a race looking to reclaim past glories...Earth had also only just come out of a near extinction level war, and survived... while we were isolationist, we still meddled alot. Kinda Shadow like.
I suppose it's open to interpretation, but I felt *Lorien* was simply pointing out the endless stupid cycle that the first ones were going through. And that's why it had to stop. Not that it was a natural process of the universe.
As I imagine you figured out, John blew up one of their main cities, but he didn't blow up the planet.
If interested, the book _"Becoming Superman: My Journey From Poverty to Hollywood"_ by *J. Michael Straczynski* is AMAZING (and at times absolutely heartbreaking). It's also available as an audiobook read by *Peter Jurasik* (Londo).
I want to compliment you. I love watching your reactions to Babylon 5. It's my favorite show of all time and as I'm watching you react to the show is like watching it for the first time again for me.
When I watched it it was always on the verge of cancellation and the time it was shown kept changing. Thank you so very much for posting your reactions.💕
I really enjoy your reviews of Babylon 5. In my opinion, this series ranks above Star Trek and Star Wars. One might even view this series as a prophecy of the society in which we find ourselves. There are lessons to be learned here, but our governments are falling, headlong, into the evil destiny that they have chosen.
its shame that nothing currently is close to be good as Babylon 5 story
I'd suggest that The Expanse comes close, as does Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
I mean, the younger races COULD become avatars of chaos and order, but they don't have to. Sheridan and Delenn rejected that dichotomy to the faces of the Vorlons and Shadows.
I'm with you, Medusa. Having just gotten back from the absolute HELL that was Disney World, I would NOT want to go to a Disney Planet either!
I’m sure Disney World was a better place in the mid 90s when this show was made.
@@SonnyBubba Yep - It's AWFUL now.
I didn't get the impression that Lyta was blocking Bestar from scanning the others. It seemed more that he was doing a surface scan that he was sure Lyta wouldn't notice.. If I remember correctly he even looked a little puzzled when he tried to scan Ivonova. He only got a reaction when he focused on Lyta herself.
Well, so much for the pastels . . . Dammit.
The hits just keep on coming!
Thank you for your perseverance and good cheer putting these videos up!
And let me add I can't wait for your reactions to the next season and further stuff. It clearly shows that you're a fan and absolutely having fun
They are always setting up for the future episodes. It shows the thought that went into the series.
Just when you think our heroes would have time to relax after the Shadow War, the universe smacks them in the face with unfinished business.
"You no longer exist in my universe." G'Kar's eloquent way of saying "I'm over you."
Always a joy to watch. It's a pleasure to see someone experience so much joy, anticipation, excitement, anger and heartbreak as I did many moons ago. Great show, hoping the planned reboot will do it justice.
Last I heard it wasn't looking good for the reboot.
Ive always thought of it that the Centauri were always the most usable of the Shadows allies, far more easy to control and get to push in the right direction for the Shadows needs of starting conflict, and more blunt in their machinations (Centauri outside of Minbari were also the second most technologically advanced of the younger races)... Earth though was far more in line with the Shadows core doctrine of Evolution and change, and more subtle in their schemes, and given the first contact this cycle with the Shadows was with Humanity and the Icarus it was always Earth that was the 'favorite' of the Shadows.
Kinda like a prodigy to them, the same way the Vorlons seemed more attached to the Minbari... poor Regent though, such a dutiful and nice Centauri who can never catch a break.
I'm thinking... PASTELS! :D
Automated defences aside, can you imagine what might be left on the Vorlon Homeworld?
Wardrobes the size of countries all filled with Hawaiian shirts.
An infinity of Juke-Boxes. 😄
Something that, when finally revealed, will most assuredly drive one to madness...
...Swedish meatballs.
Vending machines that always work.
JMS (B5 Creator).. wrote the entire season 3 and 4 episodes, himself.. they flow together so good because of this..
"And so it begins..."
Great! I've missed you. Thanks for getting this up. Here we go!
I'm surprised that Clarke didn't forbid travel to B5 right after they declared independance.
Do you think Disney Planet has Star Wars-themed attractions? Would it be presented like Frontierland or Fantasyland is today? What does _their_ Tomorrowland look like?
Not only that, but Star Command is headquartered there😉
And just like that the next arc gets its setup. It's not the Shadow war, but it's still done well.
That eye looks pretty vile....
Even if it looks a bit dodgy, Garibaldi has a point (when he is resigning)
Well, Bester did not get what he wanted. I love Sheridan's "You were saying ?!?!?"
Be seeing you!
What seemed like it might be an episode to take some time, to pause and reflect... BAM!
I liked the Episode but the bit at the end made me like it even more. Good Reactions once again.
Refreshing finally paid off 😂
G'kar is also my favorite.
The Vorlons and the Shadows have left, apparently for good. But there’s still 16 episodes left, what’s going to happen next? Now we have an idea….
"This show is just so clever!" - Yes, yes it is. :)
As far as the younger races carving out their own path and sorts of 'coming of age' without their 'parent' species, Earth is certainly not giving the best possible performance so far. What about the other worlds? Who knows about what Delenn's role might be... and what is going on on Centauri Prime?
yay, B5 is here
Yes, they left - sort of like the Elves leaving Middle Earth.
More like the Maiar... If anything, the Minbari would be the Elves, but I can't write any more right now due to spoilers...
I love episodes with Bester in them :)
You know they are trying to do a reboot too?
There is not let off with this series. You think that after everything the characters went through they would deserve a little peace, but no. That would be asking too much. Plus, from a writing perspective, that would be boring. After all, the essence of drama is 'man in a mess'. So, on it goes.
Lol told ya! better and better.
Great reaction
Pastels...
Uggggh why didn't you post yesterday when I didn't have to work! 😁(This is a joke. I know the strains of trying to post videos.) I just REALLY wish I knew what you knew. Like President Clark, I can't trust who you are talking to about the show. Now you'll never see these comments. I have sooo many questions. Are you getting guidance? Are people letting you know things like where you can read what happened to Sinclair on Minbar? 😉
Welcome home ,
